Christmas in Prasanthi Nilayam 25th Dec
2010
Om Jai Sai Ram
My Humble and Heartfelt Pranams at the Divine Lotus Feet of
Beloved Sai Maa.
Yet another Christmas – the festival becomes so very
meaningful when you celebrate it in the Divine Presence! For
those seekers of Jesus, those seekers of Truth who knows "Sathya",
this is the occasion to rejoice 'the advent' in presence of
the “Father’; for them who are missing the action physically
in Prasanthi, it will be difficult to fill the void of not
being in Prasanthi and it is time for sheer nostalgia! In
Prasanthi, Christmas often comes as a drill of Unity, where
the universal approach reigns the supreme.
Christmas 2010 had a huge turnout of overseas devotees and
Prasanthi experienced the festive exuberance with a
dedicated South African Team setting the Abode lit up all
over with colourful decorations. There were Santas,
Christmas Trees, Nativity scenes and back in the Sai Kulwant
Hall, there was a riot of lights and colours all over, with
the message in bold bright letters, All Are One!
Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve presented the International Choir singing
Christmas Carols in the immediate Divine presence. Prior to
the commencement of the programme, after lighting the lamp
by the Divine hands, Christmas Committee Chairman John
Behner and Choir Conductor Sylvia Alden sought Divine
blessings.
Christmas Evening
Following the Christmas Eve when the Christmas day dawned,
the focus of attention was unto Him and in His anticipated
presence. In the evening there was high expectation in the
air and Sai Kulwant was ready with festive exuberance to
receive the Lord! Apart from the official Christmas 2010
schedule by SSSSO, overseas, an Italian Orchestra was also
scheduled for the eventful evening.
Bhagawan, clad in yellow, arrived at 1850 hrs. in His Divine
Carrier, Toyota Porte AP02 N9000. The special day earned
bounus Darshans as Bhagawan, following the first round of
Darshan, went for a second round of the hall, and the surge
of devotees was ecstatic. Many who missed His 'catchy'
glance in the first round ensured one in the second round.
Primary School children were up on their feet, holding aloft
their Christmas Greetings, trying to win Divine attention.
Blessing the Christmas cakes arrayed on the Verandah,
Bhagawan came on stage, soon to commence the proceedings for
the evening. The proceedings began with International
Christmas Committee Chairman John Behner addressing the
assembly.

85th Birthday Celebration - 23rd
Nov 2010
Om Jai Sai Ram
My Humble and Heartfelt Pranams at the Divine Lotus Feet of
Beloved Sai Maa.
When Prasanthi is waking up to greet The Day, 23rd November
2010, then the world of devotees around the world will be
singing 'Happy Birthday' to their Beloved Swami. Joining
this holy band of celebration of Pure Love of The Lord let's
relive the Sathya Sai Saga reminiscing His Advent as is
recorded in His Story..
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s 85th Birthday, a day to
remember, a day to cherish, the 23rd of November 2010 is to
be ensconced in letters of gold in the annals of history.
Yes, it is the 85th Birthday of the Avatar of the Age, a
landmark event for the entire humanity. This Birthday
witnessed huge concourse of devotees. People from every part
of the world had come to witness this event. Long serpentine
queues had become an everyday occurrence during the Birthday
Celebrations from 15th November 2010, especially it got
accentuated on the 22nd and 23rd of November. Now let us
move to the venue of the Birthday function, Sri Sathya Sai
Hill View Stadium. People had queued to attend the Birthday
function as early as 2.30-3.00 a.m. The entire stadium was
decorated elaborately. Three large LED screens were placed
at vantage points in the stadium for better view of the
proceedings. High wattage speakers bellowing booming sound
were placed both in the gents and ladies side. Flags of
different nations were hoisted at the periphery of the
stadium hugging the grills of the galleries. A large balloon
with the wording Happy Birthday Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba
was tethered near the statues of divine personalities The
stage, the centre of action was set up ornately. Various
floral designs adorned the stage with an equally beautiful
silver and gold rimmed throne for Bhagawan.
Bhagawan entered Sri Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium at 11.25
a.m. in the golden chariot in a creamish white coloured
robe. Bhagawan has incarnated to raise human consciousness
and to uphold the virtues of Truth, Righteousness, Love,
Peace and Non-violence was the announcement in the Public
Address system. Bhagawan descended from the chariot to a
mobile raised platform which slowly moved to the stage with
the Lord.
The renowned artistes were Sri Shankar Mahadevan, the
acclaimed playback singer, Sri Hariharan, an adept in
Ghazals and is also a playback singer, Sri Suresh Wadkar,
also a famous playback singer, Sri Sumeet Tappoo, the singer
who learnt under the tutelage of the famous Ghazal singer
Sri Anup Jalota, Sri Nishikant Barodekar from the Sathya Sai
Mirpuri College of Music and a Tabla player who had player
for many leading artistes, etc. Aaj Tumhara Janamdin Hai
Parabrahma Avatari… (Today is the Avatar’s Birthday…) was
the Birthday song sung by all the artistes. Sakala Jagat Ke
Rakhwale Sathya Sai… (Sathya Sai takes care of the entire
world…) As this song was sung by the artistes, a helicopter
hovered above showering rose petals on the audience. Then
Sri Shankar Mahadevan sang the famous song, Mahaprana Deepam
Sivam Sivam…
A host of VIPs were also present on the stage. Hon’ble
External Affairs Minister, SM Krishna, Union Ministers,
Sushil Kumar Shinde, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Governor of Andhra
Pradesh, ESL Narasimhan, Governor of Punjab, Shivraj Patil,
Dy.CM Tamilnadu, Stalin, Union Minister Virbhadra Singh,
Minister from Andhra Pradesh, Dr. J. Geeta Reddy,

Where Food is served as God - 22 Nov
2010
Om Jai Sai Ram
My Humble and Heartfelt Pranams at the Divine Lotus Feet of
Beloved Sai Maa.
“Annam Brahma, Raso Vishnu” (Food is Brahma and the essence
is God) is what the scriptures herald and what Bhagawan has
been echoing over the years. When that sacred food is served
by the Supreme Personification of Godhood, in His very ‘own’
courtyard, one could easily assess the significance attached
to the Divine act.
When an announcement on the “food for ten days’ was made on
the 14th November evening in His immediate Divine presence,
there were loud cheers all around, not for the sumptuous
free feast, but for the “Holy Feast” from Bhagawan Himself!
On a mammoth carnival of the stature of 85th Birthday
celebrations of the Lord in physical frame, where estimation
of quantity of food becomes a herculean task, it is
praiseworthy to note that the “Divine Food Service” that
commenced on the 15th Nov morning is running smooth, serving
tens and thousands flocking in, three times a day, providing
maximum comfort to these visiting guests of Prasanthi. …And
for sure, most of the Prasanthi household kitchens and even
from that of the neighbouring villages have turned inactive
for the time being, for no one would want to miss the
sanctified prasadam served on the most auspicious occasion,
at His ‘own’ behest!
As a token of His Divine appreciation, on the 16th Nov
evening when large assemblage of devotees in Sai Kulwant
Hall was awaiting Bhagawan’s arrival, Bhagawan took everyone
by surprise and went in the opposite direction towards the
massive food pavilions, conferring Divine benediction.
Landing straight at the undocking area, Bhagawan headed into
the pavilion where hundreds of sevadals were on duty,
serving food, and equally a large number of devotees were
rejoicing the feast. Moving through the Pavilion, Bhagawan
had a quick glance of the proceedings, an apparent blessing
raising the morale of the selfless team of dedicated
sevadals who are on duty sans divine darshan. Blessing the
mix of assemblage, Bhagawan accepted Mangala Arathi before
moving off the scene. Such was the joy of the selfless team
of Sevadal volunteers that the inspiration carries them
along to deliver most tirelessly as a united team.

014a. Annual Ladies' Day 2010...19 Nov
- Part 2
Om Jai Sai Ram
My Humble and Heartfelt Pranams at the Divine Lotus Feet of
Beloved Sai Maa.
Nov 19, 2010:
In the Evening:
As is the wont during the annual Ladies' Day over the years,
womenfolk seemed to have not left any stone unturned to make
their day a grand affair, today, in Prasanthi Nilayam.
Sai Kulwant was lit up to resplended beauty, ever ready to
welcome The Lord in her midst and in the background scored
soul-filling bhajans sung with high devotional fervour.
Bhagawan was royally ushered into the hall at 1910 hrs. by
the Brass Band of Anantapur Campus.
Two cultural programmes were in the offing, the first
programme, a short dance programme by the students of Sri
Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar, Hyderabad followed by a Vocal
Concert by the popular Carnatic Vocalist of South India, Smt.
Sudha Raghunathan.
Presenting an absorbing session with scintillating dance and
music, tiny tots in colourful costumes enthralled the
audience for the first ten minutes before leaving the stage
for the main programme for the evening.
Carnatic is so dear to the Divine Heart that the talented
singer who figured in the "Jodi Adippalli Somappa" episode
of Bhagawan's 108 Name Story, (Namavali), revelled with some
of the selective numbers making it an apt offering at the
Feet of the Lord, who appeared to her in childhood, as "Jodi
Adippalli Somappa", bestowing saving grace!

Cultural Programme by Sri Sathya Sai Primary
School - 18 Nov 2010
Om Jai Sai Ram
My Humble and Heartfelt Pranams at the Divine Lotus Feet of
Beloved Sai Maa.
Nov 18, 2010 evening the students of Sri Sathya Sai Primary
School presented a dance drama in the Divine Presence. The
speciality of this drama was a backdrop of LED screen which
beamed crystal clear visuals to the audience. Added to this
were two LED screens, one on the gent’s side and the other
on the ladies side telecasting the proceedings in real time
to the audience. These screens were in fact installed as
early as 15th November 2010 when the “Festival of Love”
music programmes started
The programme started with a dance by the students. here
were two short episodes in the drama, the first was the
episode of Upamanyu from the Sivapurana and the second was
the episode of Uddhava counselling the Gopikas after being
sent by Lord Krishna.
Upamanyu, a young lad had the desire to drink pure milk just
like any other child of his age. But their family was on the
brink of penury. So, his mother was unable to give him pure
cow’s milk. All that was able to give was rice powder mixed
in water. Since Upamanyu had tasted pure milk in his uncle’s
house, he wanted the same milk from his mother too. When
Upamanyu repeatedly entreated his mother for the milk, she
asked him to pray to Lord Siva and gave him the Panchakshari
(five-lettered) Mantra Namahsivaya. Upamanyu too started
praying to Lord Siva in right earnest chanting the
Panchakshari Mantra. Rain and shine did not disturb him. He
is surrounded with water, engulfed in flames, but Upamanyu
hugs the Siva Linga chanting the Panchakshari Mantra. Lord
Siva protects him from all calamities. Lord Indra decides to
test Upamanyu by saying that he would grant him better boons
than Lord Siva. But Upamanyu was adamant in his resolve to
have the vision of Siva. At last, moved by Upamanyu’s severe
penance, Lord Siva manifests and blesses Upanmanyu with His
vision. A declaration was made that there was only one
Upamanyu in Krita Yuga, but there are many Upamanyu’s here.
The next episode was of Uddhava, a great devotee and friend
of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna sent Uddhava with a letter to
Gopikas. When the Gopikas came to know that Uddhava had come
from Lord Krishna’s place, they surrounded him and asked him
about the well-being of Krishna. The Gopikas were
unlettered, so they could not read the contents of the
letter and they wanted Uddhava to read the letter for them.
The Gopikas love for Krishna was of the highest type, it was
unsullied and ultimate. Uddhava tries in vain to discourse
the Gopikas on the path of Jnana and Yoga. He even tries to
impress upon them that the path of Jnana was the noblest one
and that they should desire for Moksha. But the Gopikas knew
only to love Krishna. They wanted only Krishna and His love.
They knew nothing but love. Constant contemplation on
Krishna was Dhyana (meditation) for them. The song “Pata
Padu Ma Krishna …” (Oh Krishna sing for us in Your sweet
voice, talk to us, Oh Krishna…) is now played. An
announcement is made that Sathya Sai has come in the form of
Krishna propagating the principle of love. A clip from
Bhagawan’s Discourse with visuals is played in the
background, “I want only Love”.

Ratholsavam in Prasanthi Nilayam 18th Nov 2010
Om Jai Sai Ram
My Humble and Heartfelt Pranams at the Divine Lotus Feet of
Beloved Sai Maa.
Ratotsavam is an annual feature that normally comes as a
forerunner to the grand Birthday Celebrations of Bhagawan
Sri Sathya Sai Baba. ..And ever since its inception many
years ago, this festivity has been a fixed schedule for the
18th November. For so many years, this day had been tagged
with another big event, Narayana Seva, en mass for the
villagers in and around Puttaparthi, where in Bhagawan would
present Himself through and through, along with hundreds of
University students and sevadal volunteers, held at the
Vidyagiri Sports Stadium.
This morning, at around 1015 hrs. the procession began from
the bhajan hall with the idols, mainly Venugopala Swami
idol, were taken out to be mounted on the main chariot
stationed outside the main gopuram gate. The idols were
taken out in a procession with the escort of Vedam and
Bhajans by group of students from Sri Sathya Sai Institute
of Higher Learning.
Upon mounting the idols on the chariot, coconuts were broken
and arathi was offered before the procession continued with
great religious fervour attended by students and hundreds of
villagers. The ecstatic mood of the village folk dancing to
the tune of drumbeats, breaking coconuts and offering arathi
enroute, is evidential of the religious fervour attached to
the festive occasion.
The Venugopala Swami idol was mounted at the Pedda Venkama
Raju Kalyanamandapa before return procession commenced,
carrying the Sita Rama idols, a custom that has been in
place ever since the Chariot Festival began in Parthi.

Om Jai Sai Ram
My Humble and Heartfelt Pranams at the Divine Lotus Feet of Beloved Sai Maa.
It is said, marriages are made in heaven! ...And when marriages are done in the
heaven on earth, in the immediate Divine presence of the Avatar of the Age, the
joy of such a feat can only be described by the direct recepients of the
benediction, ninety five couples who tied the nuptial knot in Prasanthi Nilayam
this afternoon.
This morning, Sai Kulwant Hall, the venue of the mass marriage function
presented a festive look with beautiful decorations in the traditional way. The
dais was decorated traditionally with coconut leaves and flowers of various
hues. The brides and bridegrooms were seated in an orderly fashion along with
their parents for the function. Bhagawan came for the function at 1125 hrs.
After Bhagawan came to the dais, the chief priest started the rituals for the
marriage asking the brides and grooms to follow him religiously. At the outset,
the chief priest declared that it was a very auspicious moment for the brides
and grooms since they had the opportunity to celebrate their marriage in the
Divine Presence of Bhagawan on the occasion of Bhagawan’s 85th Birthday
Celebrations.
The proceedings began with the worship of Ganapati by the brides and grooms with
Akshata (sanctified rice). Rituals like tying of Kankana (protective thread,
which acts as a talisman) on the wrist and Kanya Dhanam (giving away the bride
by her parents) were followed according to scriptural injunctions. Since this
ritual entails that the bride and groom should not look at each other, a veil
was placed in between them. Then came the most auspicious moment, the tying of
Mangalasutra at 1159 hrs. when the bridegroom tied the Mangalasutra round the
bride’s neck to the chant of hymns from the Vedas. Garlands were exchanged by
the bride and groom and the couples went round the sacred fire observing the vow
to be faithful to each other.

The Varalakshmi Vratam claims its prime slot in the in the
Hindu calendar as it is auspicious for Indian women to
observe this ritual on the Friday before the full moon in
the month of Sravana. This worship is performed by married
Hindu women seeking blessings of the Goddess Mahalakshmi,
consort of Lord Vishnu, who is verily the deity for wealth
and prosperity. Legend tagged to this festivity says that
that this vratam was recommended by Lord Shiva to His
consort Parvati helping her to win wealth and prosperity.
Another legend attached to it tells about a very pious lady
Charumati who was asked by Goddess Varalakshmi, in her
dream, to do the Vratam in order to fulfill her wishes.
