Prasanthi Update
In Recent days, Swami has been coming quite early for
evening darshan and blessing the Birthday boys. A Few days
back Swami came as early as 3.45pm and then went for a Drive
outside.
Wonderful days to have Darshan as Shivarathri approaches.
There has been a lot of talk of Swami going to Delhi and
also Chennai, I sincerely feel that it is not proper to talk
about Swami's Programme and only Swami decides about His
Programme and no one else knows.

Prasanthi Update - 14th January - Sports Meet
Valedictory Function
The stage was set for the valedictory ceremony of the Annual
Sports and Cultural Meet this evening, coinciding with the
Sankranti festival. The Sai Kulwant hall stage had the
various prizes and trophies on display.
Bhagavan arrived at 4.40 pm, ushered into the hall by the
Prasanthi Nilayam brass band. Taking a round of the hall, He
moved to the Bhajan hall to take a look at the arrangements
made for the distribution of His gifts of love to His
students. Moving to the stage, He began the proceedings at
five o'clock.
Mr. Sanjay Sahni, principal of the Brindavan campus,
introduced the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Vishwanath Pandit, who
welcomed the gathering with a brief talk. Bhagavan then
blessed the medals and certificates of the prize-winners of
each campus before beginning the distribution of His gifts.
The Primary School had a special mention, with Swami
presenting the teachers there with a large beautifully
mounted portrait of Bhagavan. He then blessed the items to
be distributed to each of the students. Notebooks and
pen-sets for the University students, bags full of colouring
kits for the small children. Young boys from the Primary
School came up to the stage to receive their gifts, while
the others received them where they sat. Gifts for the women
teachers were also specially blessed and sent to them by
Swami.
When the distribution came to a close at 6.10 pm, there were
three talks by senior faculty members of the University, Dr.
Pallav Baruah, Dr. Shiva Shankara Sai and Dr. T. Ravi Kumar.
Swami then gave permission for the drama by the Prasanthi
Nilayam students to be staged, and the area in the centre of
Sai Kulwant Hall was cleared. The hour-long drama
Mrithyunjaya began at seven o'clock when Swami emerged from
the interview room. The stories of Ravana's unsuccessful
quest for immortality and the granting of immortality to
Markandeya were presented with music and dance. Bhagavan was
pleased with their performance and went down among them for
a short interaction before accepting Arati and returning to
His residence at 8.15 pm.

Prasanthi Update - A Wonderful start to the Annual
Sports and Cultural Meet 2010
Today was a wonderfully Spectacular day at the Hill View
Stadium as the Opening Ceremony of the Annual Sports and
Cultural Meet 2010 was of to a Wonderful Start.
After Swami was ceremoniously received at the stadium at
around 9.30am, The Traditional March past of all the
students from all the Campuses took place to the melodious
tunes of the Institute Brass band. The Flag hoisting and
Torch lighting ceremony followed and there was also the
Traditional Oath taking by all the students. The Mascot for
this year's Games was a beautiful Swan which went up the
hill to light the Games Flame on the top of the hill.
Then started a Wonderful display of cultural and stunt items
by the Students of all the Campuses. Swami keenly watched
each and every item and blessed them all. This year there
were two huge LED screens that were kept in positions to
display Live coverage of every eventwhich was taking place
in the Stadium, Devotees from every corner of the ground
could either see the events directly or on the screen and
hence it added great value to the whole show.
In the Evening Programme, the tiny Students from the Sri
Sathya Sai Primary school performed some wonderful dances
and gymnastics. The last item with multi coloured umbrellas
was wonderful and really enthralled the audience and Swami
was thrilled with the performance.
The last performance was by the Anantapur Campus girls of
the University. Needless to say their Programmes were also
wonderful. The final Programme of theirs was a beautiful
heart shape formation and the closing song was very
touching. It was a wonderful end to the whole Programme and
Swami himself clapped which was the Ultimate Tribute.
A Great day in the History of the University and Prasanthi
Nilayam.

Prasanthi Update - Sunday 10th January
The Annual Sports and Cultural meet is often considered as
the Prashanti Nilayam Olympics! The five rings are
constituted here by the three campuses of the University and
the Primary school and Higher Secondary School. And every
year, Swami takes a lot of pride in the march past parade
which takes the place of honour, being the first item and
the longest one too, on the agenda.
And again, every year, Swami scruitinises the march past
atleast once before D Day and blesses all the students with
His comments and compliments. This year, Swami had visited
the grounds on two occasions and had seen some of the items
from all the various campuses. However, Swami had not yet
seen the marchpast and so it was no surprise when He sat in
the Porte and headed straight to the grounds yesterday.
By 4:40pm, Swami had entered the grounds and He was accorded
a welcome by the brass bands from the boys' and girls' side.
Majestic horses walked in front of His car. Reaching the
Vedika, Swami went up the stage from the lift. Once seated
there, the command to begin the marchpast was given and the
band struck up a lively beat. The tiny tots from the Primary
school in their blue uniforms were followed by the girls
from the school and Anantapur campus. The commentary was
also rehearsed. The school boys and finally the University
boys from both the campuses too marched in front of their
Swami. Soon, the ground was a splash of colour as all the
students stood in neat ordered rows and columns.
Then, the opening ceremony was rehearsed. The flag hoisting,
lighting of the torch and the flame being carried by the
torch vehicle to the wonderful tunes of the 'Torch song' as
it is known in the local lingo were the next set of events
which were followed by the oath taking ceremony. The whole
marchpast and ceremonies took about 50 minutes. At the end,
the students were told to disperse. Instead of dispersing,
they accumulated at the stage like bees to a rose! Swami sat
on the stage enquiring into the details of tomorrow's
programme. In the meanwhile, the coaches of various events
moved up the stage and sought HIs blessings. Swami smilingly
blessed everyone with padanamaskar and then spoke to some of
them too. The coaches from Singapore sought His permission
to fly the special kites that they had brought along. Swami
blessed them.
Soon, the whole ground metamorphosed into a scene of serene
beauty. A gentle breeze began to blow. The sunlight was
golden and the slanting rays gave ethereal beauty to the
stadium. Kites flew in the sky and the beautiful tunes of
the great Yanni began to drift from the speakers. Swami sat
relaxed on the stadium stage and all the students sat below
gazing at His beautiful form. Swami spoke a little and it
seemed as if He was ready to watch the Sports meet today
itself! The beautiful ten minutes soon elapsed and Swami
decided to return to the mandir. It was 5:50pm as He moved
back to the mandir, mobbed on all sides by His students.
Swami reached mandir and the bhajans were on. He sat for
about six bhajans and seemed to be satisfying the thirst of
the devotees who had been singing for the past hour almost.
Then He received Aarti and an announcement was made by Prof.
Anil Kumar that the Annual Sports and Cultural Meet would be
held tomorrow that is today.

Prasanthi Update - Thursday 7th
January
Yesterday evening during Darshan, Swami gave a wonderful
Chain to one of the Alumni Students . Swami also went to the
Vidyagiri Stadium to watch the Rehearsals of the Students
from various Campuses for their Annual Sports and Cultural
meet. Swami watched as some Campuses presented a Prologue of
their various Programmes.
Bhagawan came back at around 6.15 pm and then sat on stage
for a Couple of Bhajans and then took Mangala Aaarthi when
Prasadam was being Distributed and returned to Yajur
Mandiram in His car.

Weekend Trip To Puttaparthi
First trip of the year 2010 was to Puttaparthi in Anantpur dist of
Andhra Pradesh. In case you are wondering, this place doesn't fall
in Telengana! This hamlet has been put on the world map by Sri
Sathya Sai Baba, God to millions, Guru to others, Guide to yet
others, God man to the media and all of the above to many many on
this planet across continental borders. Puttaparthi is some 160 KM
from Bangalore. We started in the morning by 7AM on my wagon-R.
Thanks to the wonderful Hyderabad highway, we did this distance in 2
hrs and 30 min without much of a break in between (on the way I also
clocked a career best 140 kmph ;-) for a few minutes).
Puttaparthi is most noted for Prasanthi Nilayam, the Ashram in which
Swami (as Sri Sathya Sai Baba is lovingly refered to by devotees)
stays for the most part of the year. Puttaparthi is also home to the
Sri Sathya Sai University and Sri Sathya Sai Superspeciality
Hospital among many other institutes of great importance.
This year, there was an alumni meet of the Sri Sathya Sai University
from 30th Dec 2009 to 03rd Jan 2010, a period in which the alumni
attempted to re-live their days at the university. Among other
things, there was grama seva (the students go to the rural folk and
offer clothes and food). On 2nd Jan afternoon, there was a session
in the Poornachandra auditorium. The alumni were also permitted to
bring their family to this session. So there we were! Swami came in
by 4:30PM. HE was given a poornakumbha swagatam by the group of
alumni dressed in dhotis and chanting vedams. Very aptly they were
chanting a hymn from the शीक्षा वल्ली (Shiksha Valli) in which the
preceptor tells the students at the time of convocation to always
speak truth and follow right conduct (सत्यं वद, धर्मं चर). They led
Swami in a procession to the dais. Swami asked two distinguished
speakers to speak on the occasion, one was Prof. G. Venkatraman,
formerly Vice chancellor of the university and Mr. Srinivasan who is
the All India President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organizations.
Prof. GV, as he is fondly called, started his message by offering
his salutations to Swami and took the alumni and their families
through an audio visual presentation interspersed with his comments.
HE mainly thrust upon the episodes of the Super Speciality Hospital
construction at Puttaparthi and construction of 750 houses in flood
hit Cuttack, Puri and Kendrapara districts of Orissa in 2008-09. The
message that came clear through these two examples was Swami's love
for mankind and HIS selfless initiative to eradicate the suffering
of the poor and down trodden for whom nobody seems to care! The
alumni were called upon not only lead a righteous life worthy of
emulation but also take part in doing selfless service. He ended the
show by showing a clip in which Swami had said HIS only concern was
how the students would conduct themselves after passing out of the
university! Very right concern, much like a mother would have for
her child when he/she leaves home for studies! But I think very
thought provoking concern of a Mother who has given the highest
quality education without charging a single penny for the same!
The second speaker Mr. Srinivasan spoke about the role that Sri
Sathya Sai Seva Organizations (SSSO) have been playing in many parts
of the world. He recounted how pure drinking water has been supplied
to many districts in India. The districts that are covered are
Anantpur, (parts of) East Godavari, Medak, Mehboobnagar, Chennai
among others. He said, the cost of all the service projects of Swami
if they were to be valued would be a whopping USD 500 million (~INR
2000 Crores). Quite an amount for an organization which doesn't
raise any donations through advertisements! He called the Sai Alumni
to take up positions in the SSSO and help realise Swami's mission.
He apprised the audience about the various activities being taken up
by the SSSO across India and the world.
After the speeches Swami graciously looked at the offerings of the
alumni in form of greeting cards, photographs, reports of service
activities etc and blessed them profusely. He then came into the
rounds briefly and moved to the Kulwanth hall to grant darshan to
devotees who were waiting for a long time.
It was a memorable day for the alumni and am sure many of them will
go back with a greater dedication to help realise the mission of the
MASTER- selfless service to the needy!
We returned to Bangalore on 03rd after spending one more day in the
hallowed precincts on Prashantinilayam.

Om Sai Ram - The Divine
Miracle - Radio Sai continues
The Most Recent
Development that World Space Radio had shut down operations in India
had created a lot of doubt in the minds of every single Sai Devotee
that our most Wonderful Radio Sai was also going to be shut down
soon.
In this Context Prof. G. Venkataraman, former Vice Chancellor of the
Sri Sathya Sai University said the following on the 2nd of December
while speaking before Swami in the Poornachandra Auditorium before
the Sathya Sai Alumni Students and their families :
Prof. Venkataraman said ` When the News was being spread and heard
that World Space had gone bankrupt, The Team of Radio Sai was
flooded with mails from Swamis Devotees about the continuation of
the Radio Sai , He said that even before He could ask or even pray
to, World Space announced that it was shutting down its Indian
operations. Everyone was tensed as to whether any Programming would
be available on the New Year. “Believe it or not, from 31st December
onwards the only channel that was made available on Asia Star was
Radio Sai…”, “…Even before We could pray, Bhagawan has done it”
Radio Sai Continues as always, Another Miracle of Swami.

1ST JANUARY
DARSHAN UPDATE
Om Sairam dearest Sai
Family,
The energy, in fact the
divine energy was carried forward on the new year's day. All the
faces were brightly lit. New year's day is the only day when, even
people with CASTOR OIL faces prefer to smile. At the entrance of the
mandir it was our beloved Lord Ganesha who was most busiest God
accepting prayers, coconuts from various people.
There were also some
people making pradakshinas around Ganesha few very interestingly
with a pen and paper to note the number of rounds.
In the Sai Kulwanth hall
it was a very different scene.. The hall was beautifully decorated
with roses above the dais and the stage also was beautifully
decorated. The former students of Swami were seated along with
thousands of devotees this morning waiting for a glimpse of Swami on
the first day of 2010.
The wait was pretty
long. The bhajans started at 9am. The first bhajan of this year in
Prasanthi was Lambodara... The bhajan session went on and on.
Swami was teaching us
the lesson of PATIENCE on the very first day and the students now
started pleading for darshan with their bhajans.
Finally at 10:15am the
long wait fructified when our most compassionate Lord blessed us
with His first darshan of 2010. Another hopeful year.. Seated in His
mobile throne, clad in yellow robe He entered the Sai Kulwanth hall
very lovingly looking at every one. Every one's face lit up the
moment Swami entered in the hall.
All the students were
with letters, requests, some with beautifully decorated cakes, some
with little designer greeting cards.. The two police men first
offered flower at His residence and took Padanamaskar and Swami
slowly came in. Swami was looking so vibrant with the most familiar
charm on His face a rose flower some how got stuck in between His
padam making the holy feet more and more beautiful and it was also a
divine chance to assume a flower being offered at thy Lotus Feet, a
flower of love, a flower of Surrender, a Flower from His own
beautiful Garden... Swami took a full round in Sai Kulwanth hall,
continuing to maintain His most familiar SAILence of the recent
past, slowly glancing at every one of us. Many students, Alumini in
particular reached out to Him, with prayers, requests and Swami very
quietly listened to them again in SAILence. All the replies came
heart to heart.
Swami came on to the
dais. Maharashtra Chief Minister Sri.Ashok Chavan who is here since
two days took Swami's blessings. Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, the
legendary Santoor artist was also on the dais. Swami smiled at every
one as bhajans were sung.
The university brass
band was ready to perform before Swami and Swami signalled for the
bhajans to stop and then started this mesmerising music played by
the students who stole every one's hearts.
They first started with
Omkar and a Ganesha prayer and the first number was Ganga jatadhara
....the next song was dedicated to Krishna's cowherds and Gopis
singing Gopala Radha lola. Swami was immensely happy when this
particular song was played, and why not He is Sai Krishna of Dwapara
Yuga. The next song was Durge Durge dedicated to the Mother. Brother
who was leading the brass band gave an excellent talk in between the
songs and after the third song, sort Swami's permission and
signalled one more Swami? to which our beloved Lord, nodded very
gently after which came the most rhythmic Murali Krishna, Mukanda
Krishna... to which the whole gathering clapped.
The brass band played
the most divine music, very accurate, and I was keenly watching
Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma's emotions and he was all praise for the
quality standards..
After which started the most beautiful and scintillating performance
of the morning, a musical presentation by the students of Sri Sathya
Sai University. the musical offering started with Vatapi Ganapatim...
and the thillana song was the BEST of all. This time I was watching
Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma even more keenly as the
students were singing holding their own breath and also the
listeners felt as if we are gasping for breath. Panditji, was
totally immersed in the music and he was seen shaking head, moving
his hands and looking at them with a smile appreciating their
talent. It is a rare honour for any singer to be praised by Pandit
Shiv Kumar Sharma and our students of Swami deserve the most.. All
along, our Lord was watching His children's performance like a proud
Father.
It was almost getting
closer to 12pm and Swami signalled for arathi. The priest who was
also wearing a yellow dress matching with that of Swami's offered
arathi to Swami as specially designed packets which read happy new
year 2010 with a photo of the university building was distributed to
all. Swami sat on the dais, even after arathi as prasadam
distributing boys were still doing their job. About ten minutes
after arathi Swami once again asked for Arathi and every one though
bit surprised sang the arathi for our Lord with utmost devotion.
I was wondering how come
two arathis in a row, then I thought of this little 2 years old girl
Veda from South Africa, whom I met recently. She is very very fond
of arathi and that is the best SONG she likes in the bhajans and
apparently that is the first thing she does after waking up, do
arathi to Swami and I thought probably our Swami made this arathi as
a dedication to little Veda.
Thus ended the first day
of 2010 darshan. The evening programme also had some musical
presentations from Sri Sathya Sai Alumuni. This year also coincides
with the 85 birthday celebrations. This year it will be a very
hectic schedule for Swami and for the ashram in Parthi. Lets hope by
Swami's grace many good changes will happen, many good changes can
only happen when our MONKEY MIND changes.. This year more and more
number of devotees will be coming here as part of their Parthi Yatra.
Let us pray to Swami, to let Him introduce, Himself, to the whole
world starting from this year. As once we are in Sai fold, we think
twice before doing any nasty thing, we will love our fellow beings,
we will think of service to the society and we will atleast know
that we got a MONKEY MIND which needs to be mastered...
Let us also pray that
the political confusion in the state of Andhra Pradesh will be
sorted out at the earliest... Swami in the year 2007 when He went to
Chennai for the Yagna, even though He doesn't speak politics in
public, said very clearly not to separate the Telangana region from
Andhra Pradesh.. Very ironically, some ministers who turn up for
every big occassion in Parthi, are demanding for a separate
Telangana state completely ignoring Swami's views. Everyone in
Parthi are bit surprised about this.. Lets pray to Swami to bless us
with good governance, good leaders, and some smart minds who will
think of ONE NESS and not BIFURCATION.
