PARTHI NEWS - MARCH 2016

Part - 2

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SUNDAY, MARCH 20, 2016

When should a parent be really happy about their child? And what is the role they must play? Bhagawan, our Loving God kindly explains to us today.

Parents today lavish too much affection on their children. But such affection alone is not enough. There should be both ‘love’ and ‘law’. Only when both love and restraint are present will the love prove beneficial. For all the evil habits of children, who are natu...rally innocent and uninformed, the parents are primarily responsible. Parents today do not make any efforts to teach proper ways of behaviour to the children. They pamper the children by giving them money and gifts freely. They want their children to become officers, to earn large incomes, acquire wealth and lead a life of comfort and ease. But they do not consider for a moment how they should make the children realise the need to develop good qualities. It is up to parents to teach the children to cultivate right attitudes and moral qualities. Parents should feel happy only when they see their children leading blameless lives, acquiring a good name and behaving properly.

- Divine Discourse, Feb 5, 1984.

The Aura of Selfless Love: The Testimony of an Aura expert

Professor Frank Baranowski, a psychologist and regression therapist, specializes in research on auras, the energy patterns that surround all living beings, and works at the university of Arizona. He is an expert in bio-magnetic field radiation photography. He has photographed and interpreted the auras for numerous men and women using the ultra-sensitive Kirlian camera.

"It was about five o'clock in the morning, and th...e followers had been singing their devotional songs and chanting during a parade around the compound at Whitefield, when Sathya Sai Baba came out of His residence.

"Now, I have always been able to see the human aura. The auras around average people extend as much as three to five feet. Auras are composed of every imaginable colour and these colours change as a person's emotional, physical and mental states change. In general, whenever the colour blue is evident in a person's aura, it is an indication of deep spirituality; green is a healing color; yellow indicates high intelligence; and red means anger or frustration.

"The colour pink, which is rarely seen, typifies a person capable of selfless love, and this was the colour that Sathya Sai Baba had around Him. The aura around Sathya Sai Baba went beyond the building reaching thirty or forty feet in all directions. Never having seen any aura like this before, my first reaction was to look for fluorescent lights, which may have been shining on Him. But as I watched, the beautiful pink energy pattern moved as He moved; there was no doubt that this was His aura."

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 2016

Why is the company we keep so critical to our rise and fall? Bhagawan gives us a wake-up call today.

Human life by itself is very sacred. But it becomes good or bad according to the company with which it is associated. When you keep iron in dust, it gets rusted. But when the same iron is put in fire, it gets rid of its rust, becomes soft, and starts shining. Particles of dust rise up in the sky in the compa...ny of wind but fall down into gutter when they are associated with rainwater. The dust particles do not have wings to fly up in the sky, nor have they feet to jump down. Both, their rise and their fall happen by the effect of the company. Your good or bad depends upon the type of company you join. Good company makes you sacred and divine. Bad company gives rise to bad feelings and bad thoughts, which prompt you to perform bad deeds. Therefore, it is essential for you to join good company and develop your humanness.

- Divine Discourse, 8 July 1996.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2016

Why is it supremely essential to have both right conduct and spiritual wisdom? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us in crystal clear terms today.

Dharma and Jnana (right conduct and spiritual wisdom) are two eyes given to you to discover your uniqueness and your innate Divinity. Dharma indicates the right path which every individual, group or society should follow. Dharma destroys the one who violates it and prot...ects the one who protects it. The edifice of Dharma is erected on the foundation of Truth. Nyaya (justice) is an essential attribute of Dharma. A society, nation or an individual shines with glory only when they adhere to justice, acquire wealth by the pursuit of agriculture, business or any other profession, and acquire merit and divine grace by adhering to morality (neethi) and righteousness (Dharma). While Dharma leads to right action, it is necessary also to acquire Jnana. All the sufferings and problems in life arise from the sense of duality. Once the feeling of 'I' and 'mine' is got rid of, consciousness of the all-pervading Divinity can be realised.

- Divine Discourse, 19 Jan 1984.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, THURSDAY, MARCH 17, 2016

When is the best time to adore the Lord? How should we draw comfort in our daily living? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

There are no limitations of time or space for the establishment of oneself in the contemplation of the Omnipresent Lord. For this, there is nothing like a holy place or a special time. Wherever the mind revels in contemplation of the Divine that is the holy place! Whenever it does... so, that is the auspicious moment! Then and there, one must meditate on the Lord. Hence scriptures reveal, ‘To meditate on God, there is no fixed time or place. When and where the mind so desires, then and there is the time and place!’ (Na kaala niyamo yathra, na deshasya sthalasya cha Yathrasya ramathe chittham, thathra dhyanena kevalam.) The world can achieve prosperity through disciplined souls whose hearts are pure and who represent the salt of the earth. To promote the welfare of the world, from this very minute, everyone should pray for the advent of such holy personages, and deserve the blessings of the great, and forget the sufferings of your daily living.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 73.

If you are patient and calm, I shall grant you joy without fail. Do not yield to despair. Even the infant lotus buds will bloom, in their own good time. - BABA

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16, 2016

What will be the result if we allow righteousness in our heart be devoted to truth? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a profound message today.

Dharma when wedded to great a soul called Truth (Sathya), the children of Earnestness (Shraddha), Compassion (Daya), Peace (Shanti), Prosperity (Pushti), Contentment (Shanthushti), Progress (Vriddhi), Modesty (Lajja), Honour (Gouravam) and Liberation (Mukthi) will arise.... Carefully examine yourself, if you are from the above Dharma lineage or from that of Ignorance (Mithya) and Unrighteousness (Adharma). When you assiduously practice Dharma, the Divinity within you will manifest itself spontaneously. Do not limit Dharma to mere words. You are the very embodiment of righteousness. But you will not be worthy of this appellation if you do not lead a life of Dharma. Everyone must realise that to attain oneness with Divinity is the goal of human life. Hence it is your primary duty to develop faith in the Divine. With faith, you will lead a life devoted to Dharma, Sathya and Neethi (Righteousness, Truth and Justice), and achieve the purpose of your birth.

When Deathe arrives ....

#Death is probably the only certainty in the physical world after birth. Then, why is it that we spend time, energy and resources preparing for all else (which are uncertain) but not for death? Possibly because death is depressing and thinking of death goes against the principle of "#LivingInThePresent".

But as #SathyaSai beautifully teaches, living in the present and learning from the past/planning for the future are not opposing principles. Once we understand this and go through the lives of some glorious devotees - Raman, Keya and Nandedkar - we will realize that we are wasting time if we are not preparing for this ultimate reality. We will also understand that death is actually inspiring and it helps us to live fully in every moment to sanctify our lives...

This is a #talk delivered on the 15th of March, 2016 in the Satsangh Hall at Prasanthi Nilayam.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, TUESDAY, MARCH 15, 2016

Why should we continuously practice loving service, unmindful of its fruits? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a purpose today.

Devote your time to the service of the world, with faith in the Lord, regardless of its fruits. Then you become blessed. Otherwise, though the body may be inactive, the mind will be very busy, committing acts on its own. People with such minds fall prey to karma in spite of their not doing... anything! When a person has the mind fixed on contemplation of God and the pursuit of truth, though the body and senses do acts that are of service to the world, they won’t be affected by them; though they do actions (karma), they are still non-doers of action. This is the lesson from Bhagavad Gita. The heart of the person who doesn’t strive to cultivate the mind with holy thoughts is certain to be the paradise of evil and wickedness. Everyone who hopes to rise to greatness, seeks one-pointedness and aspires for salvation, must bear this in mind. Spiritual wisdom alone is the cause of liberation.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 72.

Service expresses the Divinity hidden in a human being. It broadens your heart, destroys narrow-mindedness and gives delight. The evil qualities and tendencies in you can be driven away through service. -BABA

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, MONDAY, MARCH 14, 2016

Why yielding to small acts of unrighteousness too is very dangerous? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a powerful concept to ponder and measure the results of our actions, ourselves.

In the world the progeny of Dharma and Adharma (Righteousness and Unrighteousness) are continually growing. Consider this lineage: Unrighteousness (Adharma) married delusion (Mithya). Mithya is neither truth nor untruth. This couple had... two children, a son called Ahamkara (egoism) and a daughter called Moha (infatuation). As both are the children of Ignorance, with no capacity to judge what is right and wrong, the unholy alliance between them resulted in the birth of Lobha (avarice) and Vanchana (deceit) as son and daughter. From the wrongful union of these two, Irshya (jealousy) and Krodha (anger) were born. Out of their union, Bheeti (fear) and Mrityu (death) were born. This lineage is known as Adharma Santhathi (the progeny of unrighteousness). Following this lineage of Unrighteousness, every union is improper.

What should we always seek and pursue? Bhagawan, our Loving God kindly explains to us today.

Do not feel proud about your cleverness or intelligence or about your ability to win laurels in studies. Good character and righteous thinking are more valuable than scholastic achievements, wealth, power or intellectual abilities. Utilise your intelligence and thoughts for achieving bliss which comes from leading a l...ife of righteousness and goodness. Let your life be dedicated to ideals. The Lord is secured and bound only by the intensity of your devotion. The Ganges of true devotion must flow from your heart. Everything that is associated with Divinity has its origin in the heart. Hence the heart should be emptied of all evil and kept pure and unsullied by right action. It may not be possible to escape the consequences of one's good and bad actions. But even a mountain of sin can be wiped out by winning the grace of the Divine. Hence one should strive to earn the love of God, which is all-embracing and all-powerful.

'Gender secondary to knowledge and skill'

Dr Neelam B Desai | Head of department, Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram

The journey to reach this position has definitely been long, arduous, but very gratifying. My desire to do cardiac surgery was always there from the beginning but I was sceptical about my ability -- physical strength and fitness. This was put to rest when I went for the interview of the post of cardiac surgeon and saw a poster which read, 'Whenever there is turbulence, there is progress'.

That clinched the issue for me and I joined this field. I was guided by Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba at every step of my career and lucky to have teachers who never looked down upon female surgeons as anything less than male doctors. It's tough, demanding, needs more than 100% attention and involvement.

For a woman to hold her head high in this male-dominated field, she has to be more than the ordinary man to prove her mettle. Once she makes her mark, the whole fraternity listens. If you're good, whether you're male or female, your work speaks for you. Gender becomes secondary to knowledge, skill, hard work, sincerity and other qualities required to be a good surgeon.

TALK: Why God tests - the three zeros

Dear all,

When a lady (Mrs Bhatnagar) asked Swami to shower her with "Sai Krupa", Swami asked her whether she was ready for the three zeros. When she got to know what are the #ThreeZeros, she asked,

"Swami can I have Sai Karuna instead?"

What are the three zeroes and why are they so scary? More importantly, why should we not fear them? Why should we welcome them instead?

These questions are answered through a long story involving Swami and four devotees - Kuber, Maithri, Vibhuti and Prasanna. At the end we realize how true happiness is different from what we consider as happiness.

This is a #talk delivered on 12th February 2016 in the #Satsangh Hall at Prasanthi Nilayam.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SATURDAY, MARCH 12, 2016

When is serving humanity equal to service to God? Bhagawan gives us a profound wake-up call today.

Many state that service to humanity (manava-seva) is service to God (Madhava-seva). It is true. Although the service of humanity is holy, unless it is merged in the bigger ideal of divinity in everyone, people won’t benefit, however huge the service. Quoting the slogan is useless if service is done with an eye... on name and fame and the fruits of one’s action. Only when you constantly contemplate on the Lord, follow true and righteous means in execution, and work with faith in the essential divinity of people, then the service to humanity truly becomes service to God. Without thoughts of God how can service to God originate? All such talk is mere show. In fact those who are immersed in the uninterrupted contemplation of the Lord need not do any other task at all. The fruit of their prayer itself can make the world holy. However all can’t be thus engaged, so others must prepare for that stage by purifying their mind and diminishing their desires.

-Prema Vahini, Ch 71.

What is the relevance of Mahabharatha, in our daily lives? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us in crystal clear terms today the path to attain success.

The game of life you play is akin to the Mahabharatha war. On one side were the forces of evil, the Kauravas, and on the other the powers of good, the Pandavas. They played the game of life with the empire as the football. Until achieving complete victory, Lord K...rishna was the sole chief for the righteous Pandavas, who completely surrendered to Him. The wicked Kauravas lost their commanders one after the other in the battle. The real contest today within you is the one between the evil qualities of desire, hatred, envy, pride, etc. and good qualities like truth, virtue, peace, non-violence and love. Your body is the battlefield. One team’s captain is the embodiment of good qualities. The captain of the other is the embodiment of mundane desires. Those who adhere to ever changing and worldly desires will attain defeat. Only those who attach themselves to the unchanging and eternal Divine can hope for enduring success in life.

- Divine Discourse, 13 Jan 1984.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2016

What is the need to pray? What can we achieve by collective prayer? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

When there is no possibility of achieving and acquiring devotion, charity, peace, and truth, the great and good people who desire to achieve them pray to the Lord within themselves. When the Lord’s will, the needs of spiritual seekers, and the teachings of great persons unite, the happiness of the wor...ld will be assured and undiminished. If all humanity prays at one time for unrest, injustice, disorder, and falsehood to be transformed into peace, truth, love, and mutual service, things will certainly become better. There is no other way out. Worrying is fruitless. This is no occasion for despair. It is against the essential nature of people to plead weakness and want of strength. Therefore giving up the search for other means, people must try prayer, service to others, and mutual love and respect. They should delay no longer; they will soon acquire contentment and joy.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 70.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 09, 2016

What is the important lesson we must remember when we breathe in and out? Bhagawan gives us a profound message through two simple examples.

Embodiments of Love, consider for a moment, where from the rain comes. It comes from the clouds. Clouds come from water vapour, rising from the sea. Rain water becomes a channel on the earth, changes itself into a rivulet and merges into a big river, and finally re...aches the sea as its destination. A pot made out of clay when broken, is cast on the ground, and in course of time, becomes clay again. Water from the sea joins the sea, clay from the earth, goes back to earth again, but why does a human being alone forget the source He came from? The only besetting evil in human being is the sense of ‘mine’ (Mamakara), the acquisitive and possessive feeling. This is the root-cause for all other evils. You must remember that you are truly divine. You inhale and exhale 21,600 times – it is a natural reminder of the message of ‘SO-HAM’ (I am God) which is the truth about your divine reality.

- Divine Discourse, 6-Mar-1989.

“The lesson of Shivarathri is that devotees should foster good and sacred thoughts. They should be filled with godly thoughts. They should seek to become one with the Divine by reflecting on their inherent divinity. If you constantly chant the name of God, God realization will come in due course. Whatever other things they may possess, men suffer from lack of peace and bliss.

These two can be obtained only from God. It is for these two that men should pray to God and not for anything else, because God alone can give them. When these are secured, all other things will come of their own accord by the grace of God. People should yearn for God. All other desires are worthless.”

GLORIOUS SHIVARATHRI 2016 CULMINATES:

It was sight for Gods in Prasanthi Nilayam, the holy abode where the Avatar of this age chose to take birth and spread His message of Love. The holy town was full to brim with scores of devotees thronging to seek blessings of Sai Shiva from every corner of the world.

The Sai Kulwanth hall was beautifully decorated and the "Sayeeswara Lingam" which was sanctified by Swami during Ati Rudra Mahayagna 2006 was placed on an elevated platform in the middle of Sai Kulwanth Hall, as the ashram priest did all the Abhishekam rituals, the veda chants reached to its heights as the tiny tots from Swami's primary school joined their seniors.

The atmosphere was purely divine and mesmerising making every one nostalgic taking back to the days of Swami's physical presence. Nothing has ever changed except devotion and dedication getting doubled up. Devotees were soaked in Swami's love as the priest went into the crowd sprinkling the holy abhisekam water during Shivarathri eve.

As various groups started to come in the middle and sing, the night long akhanda bhajan went on with the same tempo. The ashram gates were open for entry and exit giving enough freedom for devotees to take breaks. There are two days of the year when the small time tea vendors out side Ganesh gate look forward to as they make money even in the nights and they are Akhanda Bhajan during November and Shivarathri. Thousands of devotees were seen sipping tea/coffee thus giving some financial support to the tea vendors outside the ashram.

Those devotees who were fasting were seen munching the fruit of the season watermelons and it was a night long business to these fruit vendors too.

By 4 am the Sai Kulwanth hall started to get more devotees as many were returning from their homes after a fresh bath. The veda chanting lead by brother Veda Narayana that happens before Suprabatam started as usual followed by Suprabatam. After Suprabatam the mikes turned on as students both from gents and ladies took turns to sing His glory. The highlight of today's last bhajan was that of Swami's and it was a rare one in the divine voice

The most awaited part of the morning session which every one looks forward to was the ritual of "BREAKING" fast in the holy abode in the divine presence of Swami;.

Students brought in hot hot Sweet rice Sakkarai Pongal as it is called in Tamil along with Tamarind rice (Puliyodarai) from South Indian Canteen. As the staff of South Indian canteen took the food for Swami's blessings, Brahmarpanam was chanted and devotees were served the boiling hot food in Sai Kulwanth Hall thus ending a beautiful Shivarathri which was full of divine energy, re-energising to the soul and all those who were blessed to be in Prasanthi Nilayam would definitely go fully charged to their respective native places.

With Pranams at the Lotus feet of our beloved Lord,

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, TUESDAY, MARCH 08, 2016

In aspiring for the well-being for everyone, what should we pray to the Lord for? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a purpose today.

Truly, the prayers of the great act as an invitation even for the advent of the Lord. In the external world, when the subjects need any convenience or help, they approach the rulers and inform them of their request. So also, in the internal state, when there is no possibility of achie...ving and acquiring devotion, charity, peace, and truth, the great and good people who desire to achieve them pray to the Lord within themselves. Then, listening to their prayers, He Himself comes into the world and showers His grace on them. Ramayana and Bhagavata reveal that Lord Rama and Krishna incarnated as an answer to the prayers of the sages. Thus prayers should be offered again and again for the realisation of the task. No one should become desperate and give up prayers if they don’t result immediately in the advent of the Lord.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 70.

Prayer alone makes life happy, harmonious and worth living in this universe.-BABA

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, MONDAY, MARCH 07, 2016

Today everyone celebrates Shivarathri (auspicious night). What is the significant message we must get out of it? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a powerful thought to ponder.

Who is Lord Shiva, and where is He to be found? Many answers are given, including Kailash as His place of residence. The true answer is, ‘Isavasyam Idam Sarvam’ (All this is pervaded by Isa). He is omnipresent. There is no place, object or b...eing where God is not present. Correct your outlook and recognise this unity in the apparent diversity around you. When God is omnipresent, what need is there to go in search of Him? The search is meaningless. If one gets rid of attachment and hatred, one will experience the Divinity inherent within. This is the sadhana (spiritual exercise) one has to do today - to get rid of desire and hatred which conceal the God within. Many people ask: "Swami! Show us the way." All you have to do is to go back to the source from which you came. Where is the need for seeking the way? The Bhagavatha has declared that it is the natural destiny of every living being to go back to where each one came from.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SUNDAY, MARCH 06, 2016

What is the purpose of continuous group singing? What are its benefits? How should we do it? Bhagawan, our Loving God, kindly explains to us today.

Arms and bombs cannot save the world. God’s Grace alone can save the world. Hence your foremost duty is to pray for His grace. Prayer is supremely important and this awareness is needed in your daily living, at every step. Never forget that nothing is as powerful... as the Lord’s Name to protect you. When you sing alone, your heart is merged in the song. When many sing together, the prayer acquires a divine power. Hence Guru Nanak commended community singing. With melody and rhythm, you must impart feeling to your song to make the bhajan a sacred offering. A tune (raga) without feeling (bhava) is a disease (roga). Giving up conceit and exhibitionism, sing bhajans in a spirit of humility and devotion, with the full awareness of the power of the Lord’s Name. This is the right way to do bhajans. When all participants sing in unison, sacred vibrations are produced, and the divine energies released fill the whole universe.

- Divine Discourse, Feb 13, 1991.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SATURDAY, MARCH 05, 2016

Some of us claim we are spiritual aspirants for several years. How should we really conduct ourselves and why is it important? Bhagawan gives us a clarion call today.

Police and rulers can overcome only external foes; they have no power to destroy the internal enemies. The internal foes, the six enemies (arishadvarga) that operate inside a person, can be uprooted only by the teachings of the Lord, love of G...od, and the company of the holy and the great. The world suffers harm at the hands of wicked people when the police and the authorities fail in their duties. Similarly, the world is enveloped in darker ignorance when ‘great’ spiritual aspirants give up the path of world welfare, become victims of sense enjoyment and nurture ambition to earn name and fame. Spiritual elders are the rulers of the internal state; administrative authorities are the rulers of the external state. The whole world will bask in peace and joy only when worldly authorities and spiritual aspirants realise their duties and perform them with the right attitudes, with the welfare of all at heart, remembering the omnipotence of the Lord.

Shivarathri, as a festival has gained a lot of importance in Prasanthi Nilayam because it was during this festival that Bhagawan chooses to reveal His Divinity. Swami, out of His infinite love for humanity, used to materialize Lingas (an oval shaped object which is the fittest symbol of divinity) in the Shivarathri evening from within His being. This emergence of the Linga was called ‘Lingodbhavam’. Thousand of devotees throng to Prasanthi Nilayam on this very auspicious day ...to celebrate this holy night with their beloved Lord’s Divine presence. On the eve of auspicious Maha Shivrathri 2016, Radio Sai team presents some Special Wallpapers to celebrate this blissful event.

Shivaratri is always characterised by all night vigil with singing the Lord's name.

In Prasanthi Nilayam, not only did devotees sing in the physical presents of the lord, but what is more important, they witnessed Baba revealing Himself as the supreme creator via Lingodbhavam.

During which a Lingam Emanated from Him.

Bhagawan explains -

“Linga is made up of two syllables - Lin and ga, Lin means "that into which everything merges (leeyathe)," and ga means "that into which everything goes (gamyathe)." The linga is a symbol of the universal into which all particulars merge, from which all particulars emerge. The linga is the Swa-Swaruupa (the real form of the Reality).

“This is a day dedicated to the Shiva that is in each of you. From the Himalayan ranges down to Cape Kanyaakumari, the entire land is resounding today to the authentic Declaration ‘Shivoham’ and to the adoration, ‘Om Nama Shivaaya.’ Since thousands pray here, and elsewhere in lakhs and crores, the linga is emanating from Me, so that you may derive the bliss that pervades the world through lingodhbhava (emergence of the linga)."

ALLURING SHIVARATRI SPECTACLE OF YESTERYEARS

by Ms. Janet Bock Bicker
http://goo.gl/EpCCJS

Just two more days left for the auspicious festival Maha Shivarathri 2016. We at Radio Sai pleased to bring you a special article by Ms. Janet Bock Bicker, a long standing devotee of Bhagawan.

...

She wrote - "At Prasanthi Nilayam, in Sai Baba’s presence, Shivaratri takes on added meaning. For many years a unique ceremony has taken place called the Lingodbhava, at which time Baba brings forth the one or more lingams materialized inside His body. These lingams have appeared as elliptically-shaped stones of varying clarity and colour, sometimes as much as three or four inches in length. They symbolize the manifestation of the un-manifest, that moment when the infinite becomes finite in the form recognized as the seed or egg out of which new life, in this case new spiritual life, is born."

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, FRIDAY, MARCH 04, 2016

What is the simple definition of Dharma (Righteousness) as applicable in our daily living? What should we do and what should we refrain from? Bhagawan lovingly explains.

Righteousness (Dharma) is eternal, it is same for everyone everywhere. It expresses the significance of one’s inner Divinity (Atma). The birth place of righteousness (dharma) is your heart. What emanates from the heart as a pure idea, when ...translated into action is called dharma. If this is to be explained in a manner that all can understand, you can say, “Do unto others as you want them to do unto you”! Dharma also consists in avoiding actions which would hurt others. If anyone does things that causes happiness to you, then you in turn, should do such things that will cause happiness to others. When we recognise that certain acts others do cause difficulties, and when we too do the same deeds, that clearly is adharma! Sometimes, and under some circumstances, an individual who commits a wrong must be told in very clear terms that he has done something wrong, so that he improves.

- Summer Showers in Brindavan 1973, Ch 23.

Dharma and Jnana (right conduct and spiritual wisdom) are two eyes given to you to discover your uniqueness and your divinity. - BABA

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, THURSDAY, MARCH 03, 2016

What is wrong with many of the so called spiritual masters today? Bhagawan explains so that we may understand what makes one truly great.

Kind-hearted doctors run medical institutions here and there, serve the diseased and cure the afflicted. Similarly if we had ashrams here and there of holy personages who were experts in the treatment and cure of the ‘birth-and-death disease’, then people could be cured o...f the afflictions of ignorance, untruth, immorality, and self-aggrandisement. Ignorance produces wickedness, and it can be cured only by the medicine of the knowledge of Brahman (Brahma-jnana), with supplementary doses of the drugs like peacefulness, fortitude, self-control (santhi, sama, dama), etc. Instead, the ‘great men’ of today, for the sake of name and fame, give those who approach them the medicines they demand and the drugs their patients relish! The so-called ‘great’, on account of their weakness and foolishness, fall into perdition even before they taste the spiritual bliss themselves! The holy essence has to be experienced and realised. One’s selfish needs have to be sacrificed.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 68.

'Vibhuti Abhishekam'

Worshiping the Silver Shirdi Sai Baba Idol with vibhuti, was one of the events associated with the festival of Shivaratri at Prasanthi Nilayam. This abhishekam used to be performed by Bhagawan Himself.

Howard Murphet, who witnessed this amazing event during Shivaratri celebrations in February 18th 1966, describes in his book 'Sai Baba - Man of Miracles':

"On the stage is a large silver statue of Sai Baba of Shirdi in His characteristic sitting posture. Mr. Kasturi takes up a small wooden urn, about a foot in height, and filled with vibhuti. This he holds above the head of the silver statue, and lets the ash pour over the figure until the urn is empty. He shakes it well to make sure that the last grains have fallen out, then continues to hold it above the statue with its open top downwards.

Now Sai Baba thrusts His arm as far as the elbow into the vessel and makes a churning motion with His arm, as women did when making butter in the old days. Immediately the ash begins to flow again from the vessel and continues to do so in a copious stream until He takes His arm out. Then the flow of ash stops. Next He puts His other arm in and twirls that around. The ash streams out over the statue again. This process goes on, Baba using alternate arms, ash pouring from the empty vessel while His hand is in it, and stopping immediately He takes it out.

Finally Shirdi Sai is buried in a great mound of ash - much more than the vessel could possibly have held. Now the urn is placed in the floor; the miraculous, ceremonial ash bath is over.

There is a joyous, elevated atmosphere all around: Mr. Kasturi's face is more radiant than ever, Baba's movements and manner are the acme of unselfconscious grace. It's all wonderful, yet having watched Him pull handfuls of ash out of the empty air I am not so greatly surprised to see Him stir it in large quantities from an empty pot."

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 02, 2016

What should we cultivate to be an ideal student or even an ideal devotee? Bhagawan lovingly explains the secret recipe to us today.

Your mind, destiny, position, and wealth (mati, gati, stiti, and sampatti), are gifts of God. You must use it to develop the qualities of equality, solidarity, integrity, and amity. But people today have changed their mind (mati) into a wicked mind (durmati). It is your mind (...mati) that makes you a good or bad person. Improper use of mind will make you egoistic. Modern youth and students aspire for wealth, friendship, and high position but not virtues, and indulge in ostentation. Many students waste their time in bad company, bad thoughts, and bad behavior. Brass and gold, both look alike. But a vessel of brass makes much more noise than one made of gold. Students should not indulge in showmanship and tall talk. Always talk sweetly and softly, with humility. You cannot always oblige, but you can always speak obligingly. Always talk lovingly and respectfully, and conduct yourself fittingly as an ideal devotee, an ideal student.

- Divine Discourse, 10 July, 1996

As the Auspicious night, Maha Shivaratri fast approaching, we at Radio Sai are pleased to bring you a beautiful Story which depicts the love and devotion for the supreme Lord Shiva.

'Blind' Love for God - Bhakta Kannappa

Among the great devotees of Lord Shiva, the one that is embedded deep in the heart of many Indians (especially from the South) is the story of Kannappa. The story is a legend which is often heard from the grandparents as a bedtime story in the states of Karn...ataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Such is the story that it was made into a Kannada movie, Bedara Kannappa ('The Hunter Kannappa'), which was one of the early movies to run in theaters for more than 100 days. The inspiration that one derives from the story is tremendous. It is worth reliving it not only during Shivarathri but at any time of the year. However, with the Mahashivarathri arriving upon us, it would indeed be a blessed experience to examine this story and its message.

Like most of the legends we hear to, there are many versions to this story too. However, the spirit of love and devotion to the Lord is common across all the versions. The protagonist, our hero, is a young tribal hunter lad, Kannappa, who lived in the hills surrounding the now famous Sri Kalahasti Shiva temple.

How can we earn the precious gift of God being our charioteer? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

It is said, “The proper study of mankind is man”. You should cultivate the qualities of kindness and compassion. Only then does one deserve the title of human. You are not only people, but humanity! Today people use the word mankind or humanity without understanding its real meaning. One can rise to the lev...el of the divine only if you develop virtues. God is not somewhere else, you are God. You are not different from God if you have a pure heart. God is the eternal charioteer, who is always present in your heart. He is only a charioteer and not the owner; you are the owner. Lord Krishna is called Parthasarathi because He became the charioteer (Sarathi) of Arjuna (Partha). Similarly, when you develop purity of heart and sacred feelings, God will be your charioteer and take you on the right path. Therefore choose God as your charioteer and lead an ideal life.
