Guru Purnima - Evening Programme at Prasanthi Nilayam - 19th July 2016

The Guru Purnima celebrations came to a grand conclusion last evening marked by an exhilarating speech followed by a scintillating flute recital.

Commencing the proceedings after 1700 hrs., George Bebedelis, an alumnus of Athens University, and an office bearer of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations addressed the assembly of devotees. A seasoned speaker with a flair for Advaitic teachings, George spoke of essential advaita, Who Am I?, connecting the same with his interview room... experience, linking up with his understanding of the teachings of Socrates and Plato.

The speaker beautifully summarised as to how Bhagawan in His inimitable style reminded him that he is equally God. Deliberating on the Guru Principle, George explained as to how the awareness dawned upon him that Bhagawan (God) is not a physical entity, but the OmniPresent all-pervading Divine Principle. Guru is Gunaatheetha and Roopavarjitha, beyond any attributes and beyond any form. George signed off singing the bhajans "Sathyam Jnanam Anantham Brahma..."

A soul-stirring flute concert ensued next, offered by Ms Shantala Subramaniam from Chennai. The accomplished flautist who reached Parthi this morning against all odds,

played for over 80 minutes, filling the hearts and souls in the vast Kulwant Hall in the bliss of musicality. This morning, as the artiste was readying up to travel to Parthi, she met with an accident in Bengaluru and was thus advised by the medicos not to travel to Parthi. However, at last, her devotion and faith prevailed upon and a determined

Shantala travelled all the way to Parthi with the sole intention of performing for Bhagawan.

Bhajans continued and the session ended with Mangala Arathi to Bhagawan.

Gurur Brahma Neeve... Param Jyothi Neeve..., singing this ecstatic line of adoration to the Supreme Teacher, singing His glories galore, students from the SSSIHL, Prasanthi Nilayam campus presented a soulful Guru Purnima morning today here in, Prasanthi Nilayam.

Guru Purnima comes with the potent message of the supreme significance of the SadhGuru, Who, at the end of the search is found within, as the Source and Force, the inherent Divinity.

Today, as the day dawned at the en...d of week-long celebrations at Prasanthi Nilayam, it was glories galore for the SadhGuru that was heard all along, as the students sang a series of devotionals of the theme - SadhGuru, interspersed with commentary at the Sanctum Sanctorum propitiating Sai Supreme. Adding lustre to the morning, there was an intermittent dance offering to the tune of Gurur Brahma Neeve... Param Jyothi Neeve.

Addressing the packed assembly of devotees, Sri V Srinivasan, Trust Member, SSSCT, expounded on the supreme importance of the SadhGuru, Who Is verily The One and Only Master. Reminding fellow devotees that they should not get caught in the mundane, pedantic actions of the world, the veteran speaker asked them to get connected to the Divine Energy of Sai, tuning in at the Brahma Muhurtha, as part of their Sadhana.

Seva becomes seva only when it is done selflessly with the understanding that He alone is the Doer, said Sri V Srinivasan, speaking on the importance of selfless service as defined by Bhagawan. He preferred 'satsangh' over 'meeting', as satsangh allows one to connect to the inner source, tuning into the heart. Our actions have to originate from our heart.

Touching upon the malady of social media rampage that is engulfing the world at large, Sri Srinivasan advised the devotees to focus on the Inner net and not the internet.

Bhagawan has come not to solve the worldly problems, but with the sole agenda of transforming man, to help him realise his innate Divinity, concluded the speaker on a high note.

TALK: Destiny and Self-effort - a secret revealed

We often feel bogged down and frustrated with 'destiny' when things don't go well in life. But we don't mind it when things go well! How much of life is #destiny and how much of it is #SelfEffort?

There is a strong resounding answer based on the life experiences of many people with Bhagawan Sri #SathyaSai Baba. Starting with a special person working for #Radiosai to an alumnus seeking a child; from a personal experience to the experience of an agnostic professor in the Sri Sathya Sai #University, the insights that we gain from Swami are tremendous.

Whatever be the proportion of 'effort' and 'destiny' in life, living cheerfully becomes a reality once we learn a little secret.

This was a special #Satsangh talk delivered at the end of the World Youth Conference at Prasanthi Nilayam on the 15th of July 2016.

Radio Sai GURU POORNIMA 2016 Special Wallpapers

Guru Purnima begins a new year for a spiritual seeker. It’s a day when you reflect back and be grateful for all that you have been given and that which you received. It’s a clearing of all the credits and debits from your spiritual account. On this day one should be grateful for what one has achieved in the past and think about what one wants to achieve in the coming year. A teacher who teaches others has had a teacher himself. The one who has no guru above him is the true guru.

Radio Sai team pleased to present some Special wallpapers to celebrate this sacred occasion of GURU POORNIMA 2016 with the humble prayer at His Divine Lotus Feet for world peace and global harmony.

Guru Poornima Over The Years… Always Special

It was Guru Poornima Day again in 1971, when the new Hostel building with 100 airy rooms for the girl students of Anantapur College was inaugurated. It included a separate Auditorium planned and finished in a most artistic and lavish scale with a separate Library hall attached to the college building. Speaking to the students on that occasion in the presence of the President of India, Sri V V Giri and a host of other ministers, educationists and other dignitaties, Swami said,

“At present, Colleges are infected by anxiety and perplexity, discontent and ill-discipline, irreverence and futility; they have lost the status of temples of learning, where youth is shaped into self-reliant, contented and enterprising heroes; when I identified these defects, deficiencies and dangers, which are rampant in the country, I resolved upon this College in Rayalaseema (region), at Ananthapur.

I am never satisfied with the declaration of intentions. I must taste the Aananda (bliss) of putting them into action! I express my Love through every act, every intention of mine. More than floods of eloquence in praise of that intention and millions of words written in elaboration of the theme, I insist, by My own example, on immediate and complete fulfillment. This will be a Gurukul - a place where teachers and taught will grow together in love and wisdom, as close to the ideas of the hermitages of the past as possible under present conditions. Today is Guruvaar, Thursday; it is also Guru Poornima, the Day set apart for adoration of the Guru (the Preceptor)….. The seed has been planted today; it has to sprout and spread as a tree, heavy with fruits. It has to confer security and sustenance to all.”

And over the years how beautifully has this Sankalpa (Will) of Bhagawan, the supreme educator of this age, blossomed into ‘temples of learning’ holding aloft the lofty Sai ideals of integral education where the heart is as important as the head. The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning was awarded the “A ++” rating by the National Accreditation Council and hailed as the “Crest Jewel” among Universities in India by the University Grants Commission; the Institutes of Sathya Sai Education present now in every continent; the Sathya Sai Schools now run in every corner of the world from Argentina to Africa and Australia; the hugely successful EHV (Education For Human Values) programme organized for children and teenagers by Sai Centres all over the globe – all stand testimony to the grand and glorious revolution that Sai is bringing about in the collective consciousness of the world, more importantly in the hearts and minds of the younger generation.

In the Arati song that we often sing, the refrain of the last verse hails Him as "Sadgurudeva", which means, the Divine Teacher of the Supreme Truth. All other attributes ascribed to Bhagavan relate to His divine puissance. But the true significance of His advent consists not merely in the manifestation of His supra-human powers, but in His role as the Divine Guru who has come to awaken in erring and groping mortals the truth about their essential divinity. While all the others teachers or so called gurus show the way to the Lord, when the Sadguru descends, there is no path, there is no road to travel, as the path itself becomes the goal.

Gratitude Programme by 5th Batch Students of the Nursing College of SSSIHMS

Bhagawan has often singled out "Gratitude" as one of the essential qualities one should possess. In His words, He has said that, "your life should be an expression of Gratitude". Prasanthi has often been witnessing, on quite regular intervals, Gratitude Offerings by the student fraternity, per year. Taking a cue from the inspirational message of Bhagawan, the passing out batch of students from the College of Nursing & Allied Health Sciences, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Whitefield, Bengaluru offered an evening of gratitude at the Divine Lotus Feet of Beloved Bhagawan this evening, here in, Prasanthi Nilayam.

The offering, interspersed with commentary in English, was studded with beautiful songs in different languages, singing hearts-out, outpouring gratitude galore. Interspersing commentary was in tune with a soulful dialogue between Beloved Mother Sai and Her sweet children. The tone and tenor of the melody-filled evening was to the tune of outpouring feeling of grateful hearts as to how His Love has touched and transformed their lives and how they are determined to follow Him.

Beginning with a Ganesh Vandana, the programme flowed on with a varied interesting mix of renditions that found it finale in an ever-absorbing and inciting "Bho Shambho Swayambho...".

Bhajans by the Nursing Students continued and the session ended with Mangala Arathi at 1820 hrs.

Sadhguru Sandesham…

Ahead of the ensuing auspicious Gurupurnima falling on 19th July, postgraduate students from Sri Sathya Sai Institute Of Higher Learning, Prasanthi Nilayam Campus presented a thematic drama entitled "Sadhguru Sandesham" this evening here in, Prasanthi Nilayam.

The drama began with a conversation between a 'guru' and a 'disciple' on the subtleties and intricacies of the relationship between 'guru' and 'disciple'.

With stories galore from the 'past masters' illustrious lives, ...the presentation sought to answer the question as to 'Who Am I?'...that the Guru is not a mere mortal frame, but the inherent, yet all-pervading supreme principle.

Pushing this truth upfront, the presentation traversed through the lives of the likes of Paramahamsa Yogananda, Naren turned Vivekananda, Shirdi Sai episode involving a goat and Dixit, Ananda of Buddha's time, etc.

Episodes depicted were that of Yogananda's earlier days of yearning for 'guru' and his chance-encounter with Sri Yukteshwar Giri, who turned out to be his eternal 'guru' companion, Naren turned Vivekananda's unique experience with his 'master' Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, where in Paramahamsa kicks his young disciple into ecstasy of 'supreme bliss', the story of implicit obedience to the 'guru' from the Shirdi Sai episode, wherein Kakasaheb Dixit gets ready to act with implicit obedience without entertaining any second thought, handling a tough, wanting situation of killing an innocent goat, Ananda's story of attachment and suffering owing to separation from Gautama, only to get 'enlightened' that Guru is not a mere mortal, but the all-pervading Principle Of Supreme Truth.

The grateful students offered the presentation to the Ultimate Sadhguru Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai pledging to walk His path. The presentation ended with a group song on the greater glory of Sadhguru.

As the days swiftly tread on to the auspicious full-moon night of Guru Purnima, this evening's drama presentation at the Feet of the Supreme Sadhguru served as a 'sailent' reminder of the greater glory of the Sadhguru principle.

Bhajans continued and the session ended with Mangala Arathi at 1820 hrs.

The two-day Ashadi Ekadashi festivity by the twin States of Maharashtra and Goa concluded this evening marked by a soul-stirring Hindustani concert by renowned Pandita Padmaja Talwalkar from Pune.

Singing in her simplistic fashion, from a heart full of devotion, Ms Padmaja kept the audience spellbound for over 50 minutes with her precisely perfect rendition. The accomplished artist started off with a "Bhajana Vin Sarey Din Gele..." and flowed on to sing "Guru Bin Kaun Batave... Baat" followed by "Natha Ghari Nache Maza Sakha Panduraga..." to conclude with an infectious 'Jai Jai Rama Krishna Hari', a rhyme ever synonymous with Ashadi Ekadashi.

Ms Padma was accompanied by Ms Yaswasree Sarpotdar on vocal support, Sarvasree Ravindra Yadgar on Tabla, Vyasmurthi Katti on Harmonium, Govinda Bellari on Pakhwaj.

Earlier, the session started with a burst of poetic rendition by Smt Sangeeta Joshi from Pune, a gushing feeling that emerged out of pure inspiration after watching the most exciting Violin concert in the morning by Pt Milind Raikar and Team. The rendition was titled "Violin" and was rendered in Hindi. This was followed by a most mellifluous Ashadi Theme Song by accomplished singer Raviraj Nasrey who sang "Ashadi Ashadi Ashadi Aayi Hey...".

Bhajans continued and the session ended with Mangala Arathi at 1820 hrs.

Don't run after God, instead make Him a permanent Resident in your heart. This line of wisdom stands logically correct in terms of winning The Ultimate Goal of salvation. The land that is often proclaimed as the 'Land Of The Saints', Maharashtra, is superlatively rich with such towering personalities, who with their unique mode of devotion have won the Heart Of The Supreme Divine. One such name is that of Sant Savata Mali who lived during the early 12th century.

the auspicious occasion of Ashadi Ekadashi, Balvikas children from Yeotmal District of Maharashtra offered a Dance Ballet on the illustrious life of Sant Savata Mali.

The presentation ensued from an interesting discussion between two holy rivers, Chitravathi and Chandrabhaga, as Chandrabhaga was waiting for someone holy, who turned out to be Sant Savata Mali. To a curious Chitravathi, Chandrabhaga narrated the illustrious story and thus the story-line.

The great devotee, despite being geographically so close from Pandharpur, refrained from going to Pandharpur, reason being recession in crops in the area. Instead, he professed that his field and everything belongs to his Lord Vittala, constantly engaged in remembering his Lord.

Showcasing the story, many interesting scenes from the life of Savata Mali was shown, that included, how, finally Savata Mali won the Heart Of his Lord, Who appeared in person seeking 'asylum' in his pure heart.

It turned out to be a devotional Maratha evening, with the Name Of Vittala reverberating in the Prasanthi air incessantly.

Bhajans continued and the session came to a conclusion at 1615 hrs with Mangala Arathi to Bhagawan.

Prasanthi turned gripped in Maratha festive fervour this morning as twin Indian States of Maharashtra and Goa celebrated Holy Ashadi Ekadashi in the Divine Omnipresence of Bhagawan here in, Prasanthi Nilayam.

Traditional 'Varkari Sampradaya' of Maharashtra, wherein lakhs and lakhs of devotees walk on foot to the Holy Abode Of Lord Vitthala at Pandharpur every year in the month of Ashada, had its symbolic replica here this morning, with the grand entry of Sai Vitthala in a special palanquin, to the score of devotional song.

Adding colour to the 'gaiety galore', youth from the State danced to the tune of a Maratha devotional number, sharing devotional ecstasy of the grand festive occasion.

State President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Maharashtra & Goa, Sri Ramesh Sawant addressed the devotees speaking of the greater significance of the grant festivity. Referring to some of the popular saintly figures from the State, of the likes of Jnanadev, Namadev, Tukkaram, etc, and the meaning-significance, Sri Sawant also enumerated on the major service activities being done under the auspices of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Oraganisations.

A music programme by Ms Mugdha Vaishampayan, a budding talent from the State, enthralled the audience for the next one hour, presenting an array of Hindi and Marati songs.

Ashadhi Ekadashi Celebrations over the Year at Prasanthi Nilayam - Photo Gallery

Ashadi Ekadashi is a religious procession and is celebrated during the months of June - July (Aashaadh Shukla paksha). It consists of a procession in which people collectively go singing and dancing the glory of the Lord in what are called as ‘Dindis’. This custom of taking out a holy procession is said to have started as far back as the year 1810.

Tradition has it that two of the greatest devote...es of the Lord from the State of Maharashtra, Sant Gyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram had set out on a pilgrimage to the temple of Lord Vittala from their respective places and reached the Divine Abode in fifteen days time on the auspicious day of Ashadi Ekadashi.

Vithal, or Vitthal, or Vithoba, or Pandurang (a form of Krishna ) is worshipped in some temples in Kerala. Vitthala's original temple is at Pandharpur, Maharashtra. Pandharpur is located 65 km West of Sholapur, on the banks of the river Bhimarathi also known as Chandrabhaga . Vitthala is said to have been derived from the word Vishnu in Kannada. Panduranga is a Sanskritized form of Pandarga, the old name of Pandharpur.

Following this tradition established by these great souls centuries ago, even today devotees from the entire length and breadth of the state of Maharashtra and even from outside the state set out for Pandharpur, to the famous temple of Lord Vittala, wearing basil beads and singing His glory on a pilgrimage scheduled so that they reach Pandarpur on the auspicious day of Ashadi Ekadashi to have His Divine Darshan. This pilgrimage is traditionally called the Dindi Yatra.

A similar (yatra) procession is being carried out by the devotees of Sri Sathya Sai Baba by carrying a palanquin with the Paduka (sandals) of our beloved Sai from Dharmavaram to reach Prashanti Nilayam (Puttaparthi) (a distance of about 35 kilometres) on the day of Ashadi Ekadasi.

Spiritual Question & Answeres
SATHYA SAI WORLD YOUTH FESTIVAL
12th - 14th JULY 2016, Prasanthi Nilayam

How do we balance surrender and expectations?

...

God is captured by the pure hearts and prayers of devotees, through the magnet of Love, and it is irresistible. There is nothing wrong in praying fervently, and expecting and hoping that He will fulfill our wishes.

Like a child, we can ask our Mother to give us what we want. Yet, just like the earthly Mother, our Divine Mother will not give us something that is not good for us. No matter how much we ask for something, God doesn't fulfill some of our desires because they are not good for us.

Karma also plays a big role in our lives. Swami reminds us that every action has a consequence, and He is just an observer. He reminds us to always think good, do good, and be good, for we sow what we reap…and it all begins with the ‘thought’. So, we always get what we deserve. Yet, with all this said about karma, there is still “Grace”. Aah, how sweet it is!

“God's grace can destroy the effects of past karma or modify its rigor. Never doubt that. If the law of Karma is so unbreakable, then why recommend sadhana(spiritual discipline), good living and cultivation of virtue? Prarabdha (karma from previous actions) will melt like mist before the Sun if you win the Grace of the Lord! The Grace of the Lord is needed for the dawn of Jnana (wisdom) also.” SSS vol. 1, Chap.32

Thus, we have:
1. Our efforts
2. God’s grace
3. Trust, Surrender, Accept

We do our part, and hope and pray for the best. His Grace helps us. Ultimately, we have to trust that He will do what’s best for us. And we have to Surrender to His will, and accept the final results.
