“The Grace of God cannot be won, through the gymnastics of reason, the contortions of yoga or the denials of asceticism. Love alone can win it. Love that needs no requital, love that knows no bargaining, love that is paid gladly, as tribute to the All-loving, love that is unwavering, love alone can overcome obstacles, however many and mighty. There is no strength more effective than purity, no bliss more satisfying than love, no joy more restoring than Bhakthi (devotion to God), and no triumph more praiseworthy than surrender.” - BHAGAWAN SRI SATHYA SAI BABA

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SUNDAY, JANUARY 31, 2016

Why should we give very high importance to subduing our senses? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us the secret.

Really speaking, this world has to serve only the purpose of sustaining the body. Those aspiring for liberation have to subdue the senses. “Food for guarding the body, dress to ward off the cold,” states the Uttara Gita (the Gita Krishna imparts to Arjuna after the Kurukshetra war). However, if one ...gets immersed in these pursuits, one forgets the purpose for which one has come and the goal of all activity and holy endeavour. Instead whatever activity a person may be engaged in, the person must, as automatically as breathing, be contemplating on and always aware of this: “I am born to serve God and to realize my true self.” All acts — wearing, eating, walking, studying, serving, moving — should be performed in the belief that they take one into the Presence of the Lord. Every act must be done in a spirit of dedication to the Lord.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 55.

AN ODE TO THE MAHATMA AND THE MARTYRS

Radiosai Special offering on MARTYRS DAY!

https://soundcloud.com/radiosai/martyrs-day-special-raghupati

"The light has gone out of our lives..." - These were the famous words spoken by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in his address to the nation, informing them of the most unpleasant happenings of 30 Jan 1948. It was much less a speech than it was a shocked response of a pained heart; words that reflected the mood of a nation in mourning. It was the day the modern messiah of peace and non-violence, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.

We at Radio Sai wish to pay our heartfelt tribute to the Mahatma on this day, through this offering. The song Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram (sometimes called Ram Dhun) is a popular bhajan that was a favourite of Mahatma Gandhi. The version that is most common was put to music by Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, and was sung by Gandhi and his followers as they walked during the 241 mile Salt March to Dandi. This is a recording of that Bhajan, we specially prepared for this tribute and what makes it really special is the visuals. We hope you enjoy this offering, and all of you join us in hailing the Mahatma and all the martyrs.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SATURDAY, JANUARY 30, 2015

What should we seek and what is the victory we must achieve? Bhagawan lovingly and thoroughly reminds us today.

You must seek Truth and test it thoroughly with all the canons of reasoning. The discipline consists of: 1) The heroism to observe dharma rigorously (Ojas). 2) Fearless self-control (Tejas). 3) Discarding of all feelings of joy or sorrow with equanimity, due to the peaks and troughs of life. 4) ...Having unshakable faith in dharma and truth (Sahana). 5) Mental and physical health of the most excellent kind, earned by discipline and celibacy (bala). 6) The desire and ability to speak sweetly and straight, won by the practice of truth and love. 7) Withdrawal of the five senses of wisdom (Jnanendriyas) and the five senses of action (karmendriyas) from vice and sin, and the sublimation of all the senses to serve truth (indriya-moha). 8) Victory over Self resulting in acceptance by the world. 9) The destruction of one’s prejudices and the pursuit of truth at all times (dharma). It is essential that all humanity today acknowledges the glory of this universal dharma. You must earnestly pray, “May all this be conferred on me” as found in the “Chamakam” hymn.

- Dharma Vahini, Ch 13.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, FRIDAY, JANUARY 29, 2015

Can the ultimate knowledge or Brahma Jnana be achieved through the path of devotion? Bhagawan beautifully explains the the final lap of the journey of a devotee.

Even when you attain the state of living with God and merger in a divine form (sarupya-mukti), there is still a trace of differential feeling. Just because a devotee has a form like the Lord’s, one may not have the powers of creation, preservati...on, and destruction that the Lord has. Only when all trace of difference disappears and unity is attained, the highest stage is reached. This is real union (Sayujya). This comes of divine grace won by the essence of the spiritual practice of each; it cannot be claimed as the fruit of effort. The devotee wishes to serve the Lord as one pleases and to experience the joy of the form that one has attributed to the Lord. But the Lord, out of His grace, gives the devotee not only existence with the Lord, witnessing always the glory of the Lord, and being suffused with God-consciousness but also Sayujya - union with Him! The path of devotion results also in attainment of ultimate knowledge (Brahma-jnana). Even if the devotee does not crave it, the Lord Himself vouchsafes it to the devotee.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 54.

Continuous remembrance of the Lord’s Name (namasmarana) is the secret to liberation from bondage. -BABA.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, THURSDAY, JANUARY 28, 2015

Why does life appear difficult and overpowering at times and light some other time? What should we do to balance? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a clarion call today.

If you are careless about the discipline of truth, every duty laid on you by dharma and every action prompted by dharma will hang heavy as a burden. Hence, you must search for the reality behind all these phenomena in your daily living, and tha...t search will make all your duties, which are dharmic actions, light and pleasant. The Lord has designed people such that they are inclined towards God and are delighted at the expansion of their vision, and are happy when they are moral and virtuous. So, people must serve their own best interests by adhering to their basic nature, by concentrating on the Divine (Brahman), by assiduously cultivating truth, and by rigorously practicing right conduct (dharma).

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2015

What is the barometer of genuine worship? Bhagawan lovingly describes the outcome of a pure worship, exhorting us to measure ourselves on the quality of our devotion.

Worship with deep-rooted consciousness on the Divine, purity of feeling, and being free from all extraneous thought, becomes itself mental union with the Divine (bhava-samadhi). As a result of this mental union, the Lord appears before the ...inner eye of the devotee in the form that they have chosen for worship. The vision is not merely a matter of imagination; it is a ‘face-to-face’ experience. Without changing location, the devotee can abide in the presence of the Lord in the self-same place. This is called ‘being always with God (salokya-mukti)’. Besides being always with the Lord, the devotee realises all that they see as the glory of the Lord. The experience is referred to as ‘seeing always the glory of the Lord (samipya-mukti)’. Existing ever with the Lord, witnessing always the glory of the Lord, and becoming suffused with God-consciousness is merger in the divine form (sarupya-mukti). This is the final fruit of devotional scriptures.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 54

THE TRUE LOVE OF MOTHERLAND

"Love for one's motherland is good. But it should not lead to hatred towards the motherland of others. Your prayer has to be, "May everyone everywhere be happy and peaceful." For, only when the world has peace and prosperity, can India be peaceful and happy... Your peace and happiness are linked with the world's peace and happiness. Any act of hatred or violence committed by you will pollute the atmosphere of the world. When you adore any living be...ing, the adoration reaches God, for He is in every being. Similarly insult to any living being too reaches God. So, expand love towards all, everywhere."

- Divine Discourse on August 15, 1985 at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Prasanthi Nilayam.

What makes Bharath a holy and sacred land? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.

From the most ancient times Bharatiyas considered Truth as God, loved it, fostered it and protected it and thereby achieved divinity. Bharatiyas were devoted to Truth, wedded to Dharma (Righteousness) and esteemed morality in society as the foremost duty. It is high time you realised what a sacred country Bharat is. In this holy... land, nothing is lacking. "What cannot be found in Bharat cannot be found elsewhere" is an ancient saying. In spite of these multifarious endowments, this country is being regarded as poor and backward. This is born of delusion. When everything is available within Bharat, why go begging to other countries? Everything has originated from Bharat. Hence, having taken birth in Bharat, strive to promote the glory of Bharat. Every devotee should take a pledge to protect and promote the greatness of Bharat. Like an elephant that does not know its own strength, Bharatiyas are unaware of their power. Despite their myriad capacities, they are behaving as weaklings like an elephant before its mahout. You have to get rid of this weakness.

CELEBRATE REPUBLIC DAY WITH REAL DEVOTION

Mother India blooms into 67th year of becoming a Republic! When a strong and resurgent India celebrates its 67th Republic Day, it’s an attempt to show our respect and gratitude towards our Mother Sai through this facebook timeline cover.

“Love and serve your country. Do not be critical of others' countries. Have a sense of pride in your motherland. Just as your mother has given birth to you, so too the land has given birth to you. Wha...tever country you belong to, you should have a sense of patriotism. Do not indulge in criticizing other countries or people belonging to other nations. Having trust and faith in your own country, you won't try to put down any other country. Never bring grief or sorrow to your country. To have pride in your own motherland is important.” - Baba

Courtesy: Ten Guiding Principles - as given to delegates of World Conference on 21 November 1985 http://www.sathyasai.org/devotion/tenPrinciples.html

Let us spread the glory of our Motherland and work for our country unitedly. Let us build a country free of hate and jealousy. Let us pray to our Mother Sai to bestow strength and courage to march ahead in the path of righteousness.

Thank you and loving Sai Ram,

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, MONDAY, JANUARY 25, 2015

What does the path of winning the Lord’s Grace with self-effort look like? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Overcoming senses that stray outward is difficult – they are attracted by taste, looks, and feels. The internal tendencies are like pure water which has no form, taste, or heaviness and is good for you! Impure water hurts you and harms you. You must purify your mental behavior, which is presen...tly spoiled by the delusions of the world. If you desire happiness, you must first control and conquer the external delusion. Then your internal tendencies will easily move in the direction of securing bliss (Atma-ananda). Spiritual practices and penance (Yoga and Tapas) are only other names for the path to control and conquer these external tendencies and shield you from delusions. Choose any path through which you feel grace is flowing to you. Liberation is achieved by strict adherence to the rules and observances of following your chosen path. The path will give you the strength to overcome delusion and grant you one-pointedness.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 53.

How to earn the true respect of all? What can fill our life with goodness and bliss? Bhagawan lovingly explains today.

Always love and follow only truth; falsehood is never beneficial. Some people may respect, but you will find that no one honors falsehood, deceit, and injustice all the time. On the contrary, everyone respects truth, honesty, integrity, and justice. Who is a divine person (devatha)? It is j...ust a name for the person who observes truth as their vow (vratha) in daily living. The right conduct (dharma) as prescribed in the scriptures (Vedas) is tested, proven and capable of standing the test of time. It is impartial and just. Faith in it grows with practice. The worship of the Divine must follow the rules prescribed in the Scriptures (Vedas); through this means, people get strengthened in leading a righteous (dharmic) life. This dharma is the command of the Lord; it is the authentic voice of God, so it might as well be followed by all. Dharma brings goodness to all; it confers bliss (ananda) here and hereafter.

Subhash Chandra Bose - The Leader Who Won the Lord's Heart

On the 119th Birth anniversary of this great son of Bharath, ‪#‎NetajiSubhasChandraBose‬ we recollect the events of the evening of 15 Aug 2007, (60th Indian Independence day) in Prasanthi Nilayam. Swami asked a few elders to speak on the occasion and then asked for the podium to deliver a surprise discourse. Almost entirely the discourse was on Netaji and his noble virtues. In fact, Swami even remarked, "I spoke only out of My love for Subhas Chandra Bose, though none invited Me to speak." The very fact that Swami Himself remembered him fondly is a testimony to the true nobility of this great patriot, isn't it! As Swami exhorted in that discourse that we must always keep in our memory great men of virtue like him, we present you excerpts from that same discourse Baba gave on Bose:

“Many speakers have spoken before Me but none has said anything about Subhas Chandra Bose, who was endowed with many great qualities and capabilities. Subhas Chandra Bose was endowed with great physical, mental and spiritual powers. But he never revealed his spiritual powers to anyone. He had a burning desire to make India a great and prosperous country. No other leader had such a strong aspiration for the freedom and progress of the country as Subhas Chandra Bose. He was the one who believed in action; not merely in speech like many other leaders. There are many great leaders in our country even today, but what is the use if they do not put into practice what they say? They say a million things but do not put into practice even one! I am very much pained to see that today nobody remembers Subhas Chandra Bose who had done so much for the country. He was the one who dedicated his entire life to the country. Even when he was staying overseas, his love for his motherland was uppermost in his mind. Rather, it went on increasing day by day.

We should not merely be satisfied with political independence; we should achieve that independence which relates to the atma. Subhas Chandra Bose strived to attain the independence related to the Self. Ultimately, he succeeded in his endeavour. Everybody should make efforts to know such noble souls. Subhas Chandra Bose was one of the few Bharatiyas of his times who attained ‘Swaatantrata’ (independence of the Self) when others were pursuing their selfish ends.

Such persons like Subhas Chandra Bose should be born in Bharat again and again. India should attain its pristine glory again. Had Subhas Chandra Bose been alive today, he would have attained the highest name in history. There would have been no beggars in this country. But, unfortunately, the Bharatiyas themselves were responsible for his leaving the country. As a result, they now face great difficulties. We should love and trust such noble souls. Love and trust are our true strength. We should never forget Subhas Chandra Bose. His teachings were full of noble thoughts and great ideals.

Unfortunately, people forget such good persons and remember the bad ones. It is a great mistake. Never forget good people. They are like precious jewels. I wish that you should always remember such noble souls. I bring My discourse to a close with My blessings to you all.”

- Divine Discourse, 15 Aug 2007

Many argue about how discipline (as described in the scriptures) can result in the dawn of knowledge. Aren’t these mere bodily limitations, they ask. Knowledge can arise only by the realisation of the principle that guarantees self-realisation, th...ey argue. But this line of thought is based on a big mistake. Through these physical regulations, traits (vasanas) are destroyed and concentration is established. One-pointedness is essential to establish spiritual wisdom firmly in the heart, and this one-pointedness can easily be gained by bodily disciplines and austerities (tapas) prescribed in the Upanishads. External control helps internal control in many ways. To succeed in external controls indeed is more difficult than to achieve success in controlling the internal! In a working car, the wheels will always follow the direction of the steering. A turn of the steering wheel in one’s hand in any direction makes the wheels of the car, which are not in your hand, move in the same direction of the steering wheel – isn’t it?

- Prema Vahini, Ch 53

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 2015

What is the best way for humanity to progress? How can we prepare ourselves to play a role in this noble task? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a clarion call today.

To attain the knowledge of righteousness (dharma), first, you must receive training under wise people, who are imbued with righteousness (dharma). Next, you must aspire to purify yourself (Atma shuddhi) and practice truth (sathya). Thirdly, you m...ust realize the value of knowledge of the scriptures (Vedas), which is the voice of God. When these three steps are completed, you will clearly understand the truth and discriminate it from untruth. This enquiry into truth must be done in amity and cooperation. Everyone is entitled to attain spiritual wisdom. Everyone must be equally eager to discover the truth and benefit from it. All opinions must be tested on the touchstone of dharma, of universal goodness (sarvaloka-hitha). The principles that pass this test alone must be chosen and practiced, and shared with the world. Then will help humanity to progress. Then, everyone will develop joy and happiness in equal measure. All of you must use this method and perform noble and pure deeds consistently.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2015

If we choose to adopt the path of surrender what should our attitude be in life? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us through an example.

The path of surrender is like the life of a kitten. Just as the kitten places all its burdens in the mother cat, so too the devotee must place their complete trust on the Lord. The mother cat holds the kitten in its mouth and transports it safely at all times, including ve...ry narrow passages. So too, the devotee must place all their burdens on the Lord and surrender fully to His will. Lakshmana is a great exemplar of this path. To serve Rama, Lakshmana renounced all obstacles in his path, like wealth, wife, mother, home, even sleep and food for full fourteen years. He felt that Rama was his all, his happiness and joy, that Rama would grant everything he needed, and his life’s purpose was only to follow Him, serve Him, and surrender his will to Him. If you place all burdens on the Lord and adore Him continuously and consistently, He will certainly provide everything you need.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, TUESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2015

How does the path of winning the Lord’s Grace with self-effort look like? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Devotion has to be continuous and uninterrupted like the flow of oil from one vessel to another. Without love (prema), nothing in this world can be acquired. Only when there is love, does attachment (anuraga) in its turn create the desire to protect and guard. In the path of self-effort based d...evotion, also called as ‘young-one-of-the-monkey’ path, the child has to rely on its own strength to protect itself — wherever the mother might jump about, the child has to attach itself fast to the mother’s belly and not release its hold, even if pulled apart! So too, the devotee has to stand the tests at the hands of the Lord and hold on to the Lord’s name at all times and under all conditions, tirelessly, without the slightest trace of dislike or disgust, bearing the ridicule and the criticism of the world and conquering the feelings of shame and defeat. This type of devotion was practiced by little child Prahlada.

- Prema Vahini, Ch 51.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, MONDAY, JANUARY 18, 2015

How should those talented, use their gifts? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Consider how much talent the Lord has given to people. With that endowment, seek the four goals (purusharthas). Move forward on the path to the Lord, adhering strictly to the demands of truth. That is the purpose of the gift of talent. Only those gifted with eyesight can see things; those bereft of sight do not have that fortune. So too, only those gifted with truth, longing for the four goals and adherence to dharma, can see the Lord; all others are blind. The Lord has also given people instruments for developing their intellect and discrimination. If they use them well and try to realise God within themselves, the Lord will add unto them fresh talent and new sources of power, for He is full of grace toward the struggling. When people seek to follow dharma, the truth will also reveal itself to them.

- Dharma Vahini, Ch 13.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SUNDAY, JANUARY 17, 2015

What should you do to get full and complete protection from the Lord? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us the secret.

The Lord will protect in all ways and at all times those who worship Him in complete and pure uncontaminated devotion (bhakti), just as a mother protects her infants, a cow saves her calf from danger, and the eyelids guard the eyes effortlessly and automatically. When the infant grows up into .an adult, the mother won’t pay so much attention to its safety. So too, the Lord doesn’t pay much attention to the wise one (jnani). The devotee who worships any form (saguna bhakta), like an infant of the Lord, has no strength except the strength of the Lord. For the realized soul (jnani), their own strength is enough. Therefore, until one can rely on one’s own strength, one must be an infant in the Lord’s hands, just like a devotee of the Lord’s form. No one can become a devotee of the Formless Supreme (nirguna bhakta) without having been a devotee of the form.

SPORTS MEET 2016 IN PRASANTHI NILAYAM

It was yet another grand day, a beautiful sunny day in Sri Sathya Sai Hill View stadium, which brought thousands of devotees and non-devotees to the holy abode where the children of Swami's university showcased their talents in the Annual Sports and Cultural Meet. It was a blend of dedication to do the best for Swami, a showcase of cultural history of India and above all the team work of the students and staff which was clearly seen. By 8 am all the stands in the stadium were full to brim and the ashram management had made ample arrangements for devotees by providing water and also three teams of doctors were ready to serve in the stadium.

The local police also were put on high alert and ample security arrangements made for smooth functioning of the programme.

The Annual Sports and cultural meet always happens just before the Harvest festival "Sankranthi" which is a short holiday time for schools and colleges in and around Puttaparthi. People from far off places drive to Puttaparthi to watch the grandeur of Sathya Sai University and every one is awestruck with the performance of both girls and boys who do it so professionally that even professionals think it is highly impossible to learn stuff in such a short time.

The training for such magnanimous feats start just 3 weeks before the time and end result is just awesome. The Morning session had march-past of all the campuses which followed with the breath taking stunts on the motorbikes, balancing on a step ladder and playing basket ball, traditional Chinese Lion dance, and an interesting Cricket session where students had almost all the jersies of cricket playing nations. It was just awesome (Photos courtesy of Radio Sai Facebook Page)

The evening session had beautiful performance from Sathya Sai Primary school, Easwaramma School, Girls from Anantapur Campus and Brindavan campus ended up the twilight session with a fantastic but highly risky performance with fire torches.

The evening session was planned in such a way that the Brindavan Camupses performance happens in dusk and the fire torch formations with almost 50 to 60 students was just fantastic. It was a beautiful day when we retired with fond memories

TIRUMALA TIRUPATHI TRUST TO ADOPT SWAMI'S SEVADAL MODEL IN LORD VENKATESWARA TEMPLE IN TIRUPATHI:

Sri. C. Krishna Murthy who is now the chairman of Tirumala Tirupathi Trust, the world famous and one of the richest Hindu temple, was here in Puttaparthi for a day's visit. After offering prayers to our beloved Lord in Sai Kulwanth Hall, Sri Krishna Murthy then paid a visit to the super speciality hospital and visited the museums.

Sri. Rathnakar, Trustee Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, Sri. Prasad Rao, Secretary, Sri. Chalam the state president of Andhra Pradesh and other ashram authorities had a meeting with him in Shanthi Bhavan briefing the welfare activities taken up by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust.

Sri. Krishna Murthy said he was very impressed at the way Swami had drafted each and every activity which were "common man" centric. He said he wants to emulate the sevadal system adopted by the Sathya Sai Central Trust and requested the Trust to give more information so that it can be adopted more effectively in Tirupathi temple too. He continued to say that he experienced so much peace and tranquility in Prasanthi Nilayam which is not found elsewhere. He remembered Swami's kind gesture when Swami provided water facility to ensure no shortage of water to the temple town.

It was during the tenure of former chairman of TTD Trust, late Sri. Adikesavulu Naidu , a long time devotee of Bhagawan, when the sevadal model of Swami's organisation was first introduced in Tirupathi where on an average 40,000 devotees come to have darshan (just a glance) of the idol of Lord Venkateswara.

Wishing all a very happy and prosperous new year ahead here is a photo to re-assure you all that our beloved Lord will take care of us..

With Pranams at the Lotus feet of our beloved Lord,

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SATURDAY, JANUARY 16, 2015

What is the very basis of a righteous personality and character? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.

Dependence on righteousness (dharma) will ensure your happiness and increase it. It can remove the spite that one develops toward others. It will not allow you to swell with pride when another suffers or grieves. Can such wickedness confer happiness on you? Remember you can be happy only when all are happy...! The mind and conscience have to be kept straight on the path of welfare of all mankind (sarva-manava-sukha). Dharma will shine and illumine only in the person who serves all and confers joy on all. Such a person will receive not only the grace of the Lord but also the unique privilege of merging in Him. Whenever you give or take anything from anyone, see that you do not transgress the boundaries of dharma. Do not go against its commands. Follow it at all times, believing this to be your bounden duty. Fill every ounce of your energy with the essence of dharma and endeavour to progress in that path, more and more, with every passing day.

- Dharma Vahini, Ch 13.

Your primary duty is to uphold the human values of truth, righteousness, peace and love. -BABA.
