“Who is the hero? God is the hero, while the world is a zero. So, you should make friendship with that hero. It is only the eternal nature of Divine Love, which is blemishless, selfless and pure, which can stand the test of true friendship. When you enjoy the proximity of such a friend, you will be free from fear even in the face of insurmountable difficulties.” - BHAGAWAN SRI SATHYA SAI BABA

Revere your Mother and Love her - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

Be full of love. There is nothing beyond love. In our heart, we should be full of love. Even a belching, our vision, in everything there will be love, everything will transform itself into love. If you got hatred inside and if you ask for something with a polite veneer, it cannot happen at all. Embodiments of love!!! We have got to remember from moment to moment, the principle of the mother's love. Under any circumstances we must make the mother happy. Without a mother being happy, I will not be happy. With your efforts, if you make your mother happy, I am also happy.

If you fill your hearts with love, then I and you are one. You have got to go to the state of oneness. If you think I am separate, you are separate, there is a difference between us. We should not have this feeling. There should be an intimate relationship. There should always be the bond of 'you and I are one'. We might have two bodies, but the love principle should bind us. Therefore, we have got to think of the mother's love. You have got to revere your mother and love her; the love between both of you is one. We have got to love everybody.

Discourse Quiz on The Gayatri Mantra

Bhagawan Baba in a discourse on February 25, 1965 said, “One prayer that promotes the acquisition of Divine Power is the Gayatri Mantra.” And in another discourse on August 23, 1995, Baba said, “If you chant the Gayatri Mantra you do not need to chant any other devotional or vedic hymn... it will bestow on you all power and talents.”

Given the tremendous importance this mantra has for all mankind, here is a quiz based on what Baba said on ...this sacred hymn over the years.

According to Swami, “To fix the mind on God, ................ have to be controlled.”

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, TUESDAY, APRIL 19, 2016

What is the biggest lesson we must not forget even as we adore Lord Rama? Bhagawan highlights this key fact today.

The four brothers in Ramayana were the embodiments of the four Vedas. Rig Veda is the embodiment of speech (vaak); Yajur Veda is the embodiment of the mind (manas); Sama Veda is of the life principle (prana); and Atharvana Veda is of the intellect (buddhi). Thus the four Vedas strolled with Dasa...ratha as Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha, and Shatrughna. We will not gain much if we let ourselves be dominated by the mistaken notion that Rama is the Embodiment of Divinity and that He is beyond our reach. We should realise the fact that the Lord descended on earth to demonstrate an ideal to mankind. Hence every human being should mould themselves according to the great example set by Rama. Rama lives in every human heart as the enchanting principle, as the Divine Self within. There is none in this world in whom the Self is absent. Hence the Rama principle exists in everyone.

- Summer Showers Ch2, May 20, 1996.

WHEN SILENCE IS CRIME - A DIVINE DISCOURSE

Failure to resist evil is Crime

When the good are associated with the wicked and do not oppose them, they share the r...esponsibility for the deeds of the evil doers. The Divine destroys even those who either do not oppose or remain passive while injustice and wrong doing are perpetrated.

The Divine will not consider whether they are learned or ignorant, wise or unwise. If they are learned or wise, why did they not stand up for truth and justice? Why did they remain silent? It means they are tainted by the same guilt. The failure to resist evil is their offence. It is only when we resist acts of unrighteousness and injustice and try to put down malpractices in society that we can claim to be assisting in the task of restoring Dharma.

In Treta Yuga, Ravana's brother, Vibhishana, could not put up with the wrong deeds being done by Ravana. Opposing these actions, he tried to correct Ravana in all possible ways. But when his efforts failed and he had no alternative, he sought refuge at the feet of the embodiment of Dharma, Sri Rama. The prime offender was Ravana alone. But in the war with Rama, all the Rakshasas who supported him or sided him, perished with him. They paid the penalty for their abetment of his crime. Whoever may commit an offence, whether a son, a relation or a close associate, one will be free from the taint of being accessory to the crime only if he opposes the wrong action and tries to correct the offender. If on the contrary, he allows it or encourages it to be done, he will be guilty of abetment.

When Silence is Crime

Bhishma, Drona and others, having been beneficiaries of the sustenance provided by the wicked Kauravas, chose to be loyal to them and stayed on. All of them were great preceptors. They knew well the distinction between righteousness and evil. They had enquired into the nature of the eternal and the permanent. Of what avail was all that knowledge?

When it came to practising what they knew, all their knowledge was of no use. In the final outcome, all of them met with the same end in the great war as the evil-minded Kauravas. Krishna looked upon those who, even if they were good in themselves, did not oppose unrighteousness and injustice committed in their presence when they had the capacity to do so, as actual participants in the crimes. When evil and injustice and violence are being perpetrated, if individuals look on unconcerned, they must be regarded as accomplices in the crimes. In the end they also suffer as much as the criminals. By their passive association, they provide encouragement to the evildoers.

Orchestrating A Fascinating Play Of Divine Compassion - Part 01

How Bhagawan mysteriously motivated the Sai Youth of Ambodola to reach out to the most neglected little ones of rural Odisha (in East India) and create an oasis of divine compassion

“Is it only acting or a reality? Make it a reality!” Trinath could not sleep that night. This message kept strongly ringing in his mind over and over again as if someone was beseeching him to pay attention and take action. The mysteri...ous voice just implored him: “Make it a reality!”

Trinath woke up with a start. He had no difficulty in identifying the voice; he had known and loved Baba for five years by then.

It was at this time that Mohan bhai revealed to Trinath how the Sai youth there had planned to build an orphanage as their offering to Swami and had even bought land in that rural hamlet for fifteen thousand rupees in 1999. However, the construction had not begun because of many resource constraints.

Important Ingredients for Seva - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

In the first instance, strengthen your confidence in your own self. It is only then, that you will deserve the happiness that you wish to get. In such a blissful and happy state, you will not mind any difficulties that you may get. You will be prepared to sacrifice even if you are in some difficulty. When you are prepared for sacrifice, you will get happiness and bliss. This is why in Vedas it has been said that, if y...ou want to reach the immortal state, you can do so and reach a state which cannot be reached by any other method but by sacrifice.

For Sevadal members, there are certain essential qualities like humility, obedience and sacrifice are necessary. These three are very essential for one who wants to do service. If you are not prepared to sacrifice and yet you want to participate in service, then the fruits that you get will not be consonant with the service that you do.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, MONDAY, APRIL 18, 2016

What is the biggest lesson from Ramayana we must internalise? Bhagawan, our Loving God reminds us today.

Rama is the Indweller in every body. He is the Atma-Rama - the Rama (Source of Bliss) in every individual. His blessings upsurging from that inner spring will confer peace and bliss. He is the very embodiment of righteousness, of all the codes of morality that hold mankind together in love and unity. The s...tory of Rama, ‘Ramayana’, teaches us two lessons: the value of detachment and the need to become aware of the Divine in every being. Faith in God and detachment from objective pursuits are the keys for human liberation. Give up sense objects, and you gain Rama.

Mother Sita (Rama’s consort) gave up the luxuries of Ayodhya so she could be with Rama, in the period of exile. When she cast longing eyes on the golden deer and craved for it, she lost the presence of Rama. Renunciation leads to joy; attachment brings about grief. Be in the world, but not of it. Make your heart pure and strong, contemplating the grandeur of the Ramayana.

- Ramakatha Rasavahini, ‘The Inner Meaning’.

Take as your ideals the great characters depicted in the Ramayana. You will see how your life is filled with peace and joy. - Baba

What does Bhagawan expect of us in the context of the present times? We can learn from the wish Bhagawan expressed to His students.

My earnest wish is that youth evince keen interest in the moral and spiritual principles of the Ramayana and fully benefit from it. Elders too should mould their lives in consonance with morality and spirituality. Neither wealth nor scholarship can bring you happiness. Only the L...ove of God confers endless bliss on you. It not only bestows happiness but gives extreme strength as well. You must seek learning that confers immortality. What is Immortality? The removal of immorality is immortality. Human life, which is mortal, is bound to perish one day or the other. Hence we must strive for morality, which is imperishable. This moral splendour is the need of the universe today. It is My earnest wish that our students should cultivate moral splendour and strive for the welfare and upliftment of the Universe, particularly at a time when selfishness and self-interest are so rampant.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, SATURDAY, APRIL 16, 2016

What is the attitude (Bhava) with which we must listen to the life of an Avatar? Bhagawan gives us a clarion call today quoting Ramayana as an example.

Don’t look upon Rama as a scion of the Solar Dynasty, or the son of Emperor Dasaratha. These correlates are but accessory and accidental. A habitual error in modern readers is they pay attention only to the personal relationship and affiliations between the... characters of the story they read without delving into the values they represent and demonstrate. Just as people squeeze juice out of the fibrous cane and drink its sweetness, just as the bee sucks the honey in the flower, regardless of its symmetry and colour, so too the spiritual seeker (Sadhaka) should yearn to imbibe the expression of tenderness, pity and compassion with which Ramayana is saturated, paying no heed to other subjects. Those who seek the expression of compassion in Ramayana should concentrate more on the central narrative than on supplementary details that embellish or encumber it. Listen to the Ramayana in that mood; that is the best form of spiritual listening (Shravana).

- Ramakatha Rasavahini, Ch 1.

Sri Ramanavami Divine Discourse by Sri Sathya Sai Baba

On the occasion of Ramanavami we present a discourse delivered by Bhagawan on 11 April 2003 at Brindavan. It is important to understand that each individual is Lord Rama and live life drawing inspiration from the idealism portrayed in the Ramayana.

Ideal brotherhood, Story from Ramayana - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

A small example. At one time Rama, Lakshmana and Bharata were playing with a ball. After playing for a long time, tired and sweaty, Rama returned and sat on the lap of Kausalya. Rama appeared to be ecstatic. His mother asked, 'Rama you are so happy even though you are tired. What is the reason?' He said, 'Mother, I was playing ball with my brothers. Today Bharata won and I am very happy'. "You are so happy bec...ause your younger brother won - there should be more brothers like you."

After some time Bharata came running. He appeared very sad. Kausalya asked, "You won the game. Then why are you sad?" He said, "Brother lost and made me win the game. For my sake, my elder brother lost the game." Isn't this strange? Brothers should be like that. The elder brother should see that the younger brother wins the game. These are the ideals taught in Ramayana.

Today, brothers are not like that. Rama and Lakshmana - in those times they were in supreme state. But today, brothers go to the supreme court. You should go to the supreme state. Brothers should be united, they should be integrated, they should be adjusting and understanding. Today there is no adjustment and understanding. So many ideals are shown in the ancient Ramayana. Elder brother was happy that the younger brother had won and the younger brother was sad because the elder brother had lost. That sort of love should be developed today. Students, develop this love.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, FRIDAY, APRIL 15, 2016

Why is it important to read epics such as Ramayana? On the auspicious occasion of the Sri Rama Navami (Birthday of Lord Rama) Bhagawan explains to us?

The name Rama is the essence of scriptures (Vedas); Lord Rama’s story is an ocean of milk, pure and potent. Ramayana, the epic describing Lord Rama’s incarnation is a sacred text, reverently recited by the scholar as well as the ignorant, the millionaire as wel...l as the pauper. Lord Rama’s name cleanses all evil and transforms the sinner; it reveals the charming form represented by the name. Ramayana must be read not as a record of a human career but as a narrative of the advent and activities of an incarnation of God (Avatar). You must endeavor with determination to realise through your own experience the ideals revealed in that narrative. God is all-knowing, all-pervasive, and all-powerful. The words He utters while embodied in the human form, the acts He deigns to indulge in during His earthly sojourn — these are inscrutable and extraordinarily significant. The precious springs of His message ease the path of deliverance for humanity.

Ramakatha Rasavahini, Ch 1.

To gain liberation, to win Rama’s grace, it is not enough to repeat His name; you must practice the Rama principle. -BABA.

CELEBRATING SAI ‪#‎RAMANAVAMI‬

Sri Rama Navami is the festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Sri Rama, the Avatar of the Treta age. Lord Rama is revered as being the very embodiment of Dharma (righteousness) and one whose life serves as an ideal for all mankind. The Ramayana, an epic poem composed by sage Valmiki on the life of Lord Rama, is one of the sacred scriptures of the Hindu religion.

“Rama is the in-dweller in every body. He is the Source of Bliss (Atma-Rama) in ...every individual. His blessing, surging from that inner spring, confers peace and bliss. He is the very embodiment of Dharma, of all the codes of morality that hold mankind together in love and unity”. - Baba

WHY DID THE DIVINE DESCEND AS RAMA

"The Ramayana is a work which holds out ideals for every home and every family. What should be the relations between a father and a son, how should a husband and wife conduct themselves, how should brothers behave towards each other, what should be the relations between the rulers and the citizens, how should sisters-in-law conduct themselves - all these are exemplified in the story of the Rama-Avatar."

Bhagavan Baba has often elaborated on ...the Sacred Life of Lord Rama, and exhorted one and all to emulate the ideals set by the Lord during that Incarnation. Here is an extract from one such discourse delivered by Bhagavan on March 24, 1991.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, THURSDAY, APRIL 14, 2016

Why is it important to delve into epics such as the Ramayana? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

As the human body is made of blood cells, the Ramayana too is constituted of sacred and sublime cells. Human life finds fulfilment by dwelling on the sanctity of the Ramayana. As the human body collapses without the spinal column, so also human life sinks without morality and spirituality. The spinal col...umn is made of thirty-three rings, and it supports the entire human body. Similarly, moral and spiritual principles constitute the very rings of the backbone of human life. My earnest wish is that students evince keen interest in the moral and spiritual principles of the Ramayana and fully benefit from it. The elders too should mould their lives in consonance with morality and spirituality. Neither wealth nor scholarship can bring you happiness. Only the love of God confers endless bliss on you. It not only bestows happiness but gives immense strength as well.

Mindboggling Materialisation in Kodai

Kodaikanal is a hill station in South India about four hundred and odd kilometres south east of Bangalore and near the temple cities of Madurai and Palani. In former years, every summer Swami used to take a few students, staff and devotees with Him to Kodai. Spending time with Swami in Kodai is unparalleled in sweetness and wonder. The students would share the same home with Swami for few weeks to a month, dine with Him and spend almost t...he entire day in His company. And to make the divine vacation even more memorable, for His part, Swami would thrill the entourage with out of the world materialisations, apart from the many fulfilled yet profound interactions.

Prof Anil Kumar who was blessed to be a part of many such Kodai trips, relates about some objects that Swami materialised from the ‘Ramavatar-era’ thus:

Bhagavan crosses all time barriers when He materialises certain things. One year He materialised the ring worn by Lord Rama that was presented to Him by His father Dasaratha. It was a diamond ring, and Swami was smiling as He looked around while materialising another ring – this time it was a sapphire ring that was presented to Lord Rama by His father-in-law, Emperor Janaka. The rings were very big. I said, “Swami, it is almost the size of my wrist. How come this ring is so big?” Swami replied, “Lord Rama was an Aajanubhau, meaning one of very tall stature.

The boys seeing such objects would be transported to a different world. They had come so close that they even took the liberty of almost pestering, saying, “Swami, let us see, let us see!” Swami gave ample opportunities for all to see these manifested objects at close quarters. He would keep them on the table so that everybody could later see at some leisure. Boys would take photographs also.

And thanks to Swami that he permitted photographing of these objects, that we are able to at least partially revisit and relive those precious moments.

Secret of Hanuman - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

Filling his heart with divine feelings, Hanuman stepped into Lanka. All inhabitants praised Hanuman as the one of sterling character and mighty strength. He is peaceful, virtuous and strong. That is Hanuman. What is the reason behind all this? It is the matchless holy name of Rama which is the strength. Because of the chanting of the holy name and his devotion and faith he could cross the ocean.

108 Sangabhishekam of Ardhanareeshwar Utsava Murthy from Tiruchengode

As part of the Parti Yatra, devotees from Tamil Nadu had organised a special Sangabhishekam ceremony for Ardhanareeshwar Utsava Murthy from the hill-temple in Tiruchengode. The special programme was organised in the Poornachandra Auditorium on 13 April, 10 a.m. onwards.

The temple at Tiruchengode is regarded as the 4th of the 7 Tevara Stalams in the Kongu Region of Tamil Nadu. Ardhanareeswarar, a form of Sh...iva, representing the unity of Shiva and Parvati, is enshrined in this ancient hill temple. On 19 April 1992 Bhagawan had visited and blessed this holy shrine at Tiruchengode. He had also laid the foundation stone for the Sathya Sai Mandir which is situated at the foot of the hill.

Sangabhishekam is a ceremony in which abhishekam (or bathing the idol) is performed using conches. And as the name suggests, 108 conches were used in this ceremony. We present to you some images of that festive happening.

Students should develop common sense - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

Therefore, to begin with, students should participate in those actions that will are essential to them in their daily life. We should develop the inherent general knowledge and common sense. It is the practical knowledge which is most important. In today's modern education, only familiarity with books is seen. In this, there is not an iota of fragrance. Because of this type of education, today, in this world, ma...ny people take to wrong paths, bad habits, bad company, bad deeds and waste their lives.

Human character is most important - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

The human heart which is so soft and tender has now become so hard. Why? The reason is our conduct. The good and bad of a country depends upon the behavior and actions of men and women. Once character is lost, life is lost. If money is lost, something is lost. If health is lost, something is lost.

If character is lost, everything is lost. Therefore, we should take character as the most important virtue. That is what God expects from us - then, and now, and forever. Man does not recognize this truth, he is carried away by individual selfishness and self-interest. One has to kill this selfishness and self-interest. All are one - be alike to everyone. All are members of this family of God.

Why should we give up the attitude of criticism completely Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.

Embodiments of Love, God is present in everyone. He resides in every heart. So do not confine God to a temple, a mosque or a church. Where a human is, there God is. God takes the form of a human (Daivam manusha rupena). As you forget and do not realise this important fact, you indulge in criticism of others. Who...m are you criticising? Whom do you adore? Enquire for yourself. God is present in all. If you criticise others, you criticise God. Whoever you salute, it reaches God (Sarva jeeva namaskaram Keshavam prati gacchati) and whoever you insult or ridicule, it also reaches God! (Sarva jeeva thiraskaram Keshavam prati gacchati). Right from this moment, embark on a new life giving up bad thoughts and evil qualities. Purify your heart. Let your thoughts, words and deeds be sacred. Only then will your life be blissful.

Role of Balvikas Gurus and Parents - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

Teachers, who are verily embodiment of Divine souls, must imprint in their mind that it is very necessary to identify and understand the holy culture of our country Bharat.

I am hoping that from today onwards teachers with sacred hearts must prepare students to become ideal citizens of our country and groom them. So that, they can spread the holy ideals and objectives. Parents of some children are not readily com...ing forward to enroll their children in the Balvikas classes. You should explain to such parents about the true importance of balvikas and make an attempt to join their children in balvikas group.

Truly, 80% of the parents are only thinking that their children should pursue higher education, should go to America, should acquire higher degrees and should do a big job. But they are not understanding the truth that, how their children are entering the wrong path and leading a desecrated life.

Parents are not questioning their children even if they return home late at midnight after watching movies and playing cards. But they are punishing them even after attending Sathya Sai balvikas classes or some spiritual congregation.Hence, parents to an extent are also responsible for spoiling their children.

What is the true nature of a devotee? Bhagawan gives us a powerful thought to ponder upon, quoting a conversation between Lord Narayana and Sage Narada.

Once Lord Narayana told Sage Narada, “Narada, there are many devotees like you. You find them in every house and in every place. They will offer worship and chant My Name. But this is not true devotion. True devotion is that which finds expression in every t...hought, word and deed of man. Just as the food partaken gets digested in the stomach and its essence is supplied to all limbs of the body, likewise, when you fill your heart with the divine name, its effect should spread to your eyes, ears, tongue, hands, feet, etc. When the sacred effect of the divine name spreads to your eyes, you will develop sacred vision. Likewise your speech will become sacred, and you will listen only to sacred words. Your hands will undertake sacred deeds and your feet will take you to sacred places. Thus a true devotee will sanctify each of his limbs with sacred activity.”

ARADHANA SADHANA - The Month of ‘Giving and Forgiving.'

#‎GivingAndForgiving‬
http://goo.gl/cUhjwj

As we celebrate this month of 'Giving and Forgiving', let us strive to give a little more of our time and an ounce more of our energies to bring happiness to a despondent soul. Let us forgive those whom we thought we would never forgive, so we may give them space and time to learn and improve. When our Lord forgives us a million times, do not those who have wronged us deser...ve our patience and forbearance?

Let this be a festive month of 'Giving and Forgiving' and one way we all can do that is by sharing with each other our inspiration, learning and pure joy.

Do you have an anecdote from your life or another's on this theme of Giving and Forgiving that inspires you or has opened your eyes to the joy concealed in it? Or a picture capturing the joy of sharing, in seva or in an act of random kindness?

How about sharing it with us so we can, in turn, share them with all and build an ambience of pure love as we celebrate this poignant month.

Read more here: http://goo.gl/cUhjwj

Sai is Love, Love is Sai. And when we say, 'Love Lives by Giving and Forgiving', it means we will definitely be able to feel His living presence amidst us when we give and forgive. Let this month be the beginning of a new life for each of us Sai Devotees.

We love to see everything pure and clean around us. Cleanliness is indeed important. But what is the most important form of purity? Bhagawan reminds us today.

Once, a friend of Michelangelo, the famous Italian sculptor, asked him, "Why are you working so hard, chiseling this huge rock? Why don't you go home and get some rest?" Michelangelo replied: "I want to bring out the living Divinity that is embedded in... this lifeless stone." If that sculptor could create out of an inanimate piece of stone, a living Image of God, cannot human beings vibrant with life manifest the living

Divinity that resides within them? When your clothes get dirty, you change them, because you are ashamed to appear in dirty garments. If your house is dirty you clean it so that visitors do not get a bad impression. But when your minds and your hearts are polluted, you do not feel ashamed. Isn’t it strange that you are so concerned about the cleanness of your clothes or homes, but are not concerned about the purity of your hearts and minds which affects your entire life?

What is the importance we must accord to discipline and our conscience? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.

Only a harmonious blend of the secular and spiritual will lend beauty and radiance to life. We should not learn and earn merely to fill our bellies but also to fill our hearts with bliss. The food you eat will fill only your stomach and not the mind, but spiritual food will fill your mind and give you e...ternal bliss. Hence secular learning and living should be coupled with spirituality. Inculcation of morality is very important in life. Students lead chaste and disciplined lives as long as they live in the hostel, but they lead an altogether different life once they leave the hostel. Your lives should be marked by discipline and morality, whether you live in the hostel or outside. All of your lives should be lived in consonance with the command of your conscience. This rule must remain the same, whether you are being observed or not, whether someone is noticing you or not.

Serve with patience and humility - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

In another situation, while we do such service and serve others, some people may interrupt the service and make fun of you. They may also speak in a ridiculing manner and scoff at you. In such situations we should not lose our patience. If we lose courage feeling that some people are making fun of us, and move away from the path of truth and become angry then, in many ways we would be promoting attachment in our min...d.

One who is undertaking service, a ‘Sevaka’, should always exhibit humility and obedience. He should never exhibit authority and position. This kind of service will promote oneness and the unity that is present in all human beings. On the other hand ego promotes diversity in unity. The main objective of service should be to bring the manifestation of diversity into unity but it should not be one which shows diversity in unity. Thus, it becomes very necessary for us to recognize the inner meaning and objective of service and perform such service.

What is the change that must occur in our lives? Bhagawan gives us a clarion call today.

Ages have gone by and the world is fast changing, but there is no transformation in the human heart. Some say that education is bringing about a change in human beings. True, but what type of change has it brought? It is a peculiar change that is leading to perversion of human mind instead of transforming their hearts. H...uman heart in its pristine state is highly sacred and human birth is difficult to attain. Out of all the living beings, the human birth is the rarest (Janthunam narajanma durlabham). Having attained such a precious life, are you making efforts to live like a true human being? Today you have become a bundle of desires, spending all your time and effort in fulfilling them. You are under the mistaken notion that fulfilment of desires will confer happiness on you. Realise that only annihilation of desires will lead you to ultimate bliss. True happiness lies in the state of desirelessness.

Ugadi is the beginning of a New Year. You have celebrated many Ugadis, but have you given up your bad qualities? Do not limit the celebration of Ugadi to merely putting on new clothes and partaking of delicious food. Today you may wear a new shirt, but how long will it remain new? You have been given this birth, and you have gone through varied experiences of pleasure and pain. Pray to God to take you across this ocean of life and death, and grant you liberation. True Ugadi is the day when you give up bad qualities, fill your heart with love, and take to the path of sacrifice. Stop criticizing others. Respect even those who hate you. Hatred is a bad quality. Celebrate Ugadi By Sacrificing Selfishness And Embracing Selflessness (Resharing article of 2014)

The dawn of a new year always brings with it a new hope; a hope for good change, improvement and better tidings. Though this change need not necessarily wait for a new year, we inadvertently connect the two. This leads to the year being welcomed with hope-suffused celebrations and, eager and anxious prayers.

Celebrations of such festivals in Bhagawan’s presence were special for this very reason. Yes there is rejoicing and revelry. But Bhagawan always drew our attention to the essential significance of the observance, and made sure that the soft spiritual calling is not drowned in the din of the festivity.

So let us all begin this Ugadi (New Year day for Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Marwari and Sindhi people) by reading and listening to this Ugadi message of Baba, delivered on 13 April 2002 where Swami teaches us the best way to celebrate this festival. May we all imbibe this message and move closer to our own ‘Spiritual Victory'’

Radio Sai Team wishes all of you a blissful and sacred New Year.

Giving up bad qualities leads to true Ugadi - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio) (Resharing)

Discourse Delivered on: 2002-04-13

On Ugadi day, people get up early, have a sacred bath, put on new clothes and partake of sweets and various delicious items. They are interested only in external cleanliness and are not concerned about purifying their hearts which are tainted with evil thoughts and evil feelings.

It is rather easy to have external cleanliness and to wear new clothes but that is not the p...urpose of celebrating festivals. True celebration of Ugadi lies in giving up evil qualities and purifying one’s heart.

Less Desires, More Comfort - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)

Discourse Delivered on: 23-11-2000

Don't have too many desires. Reduce your desire. Grow desire for God. If you have desire for God, you would be very happy. The worldly desires, responsibilities, obligations will be naturally more and more. You think that you are unburdening yourself, it’s a mistake. The more desires you have, less happier you would be. Once the desires decreases, the bliss increases. Why are you not hap...py? Because desires are growing, increasing day by day and so you are not happy. When once you put a check or a ceiling on the desire, you will be happy more and more.

Why is it important to give up pride and ego? Bhagawan explains with a beautiful example.

A game of football is played by two teams with ten players in each team playing on each side of the field. Each team strives to score a goal by shooting the ball between the two goal posts. Life is a game in which you must lead your life between the two goal posts of secular and spiritual education. While playing foo...tball, one kicks the ball as long as it is filled with air. Once the football is deflated, nobody will kick it. The air in the football signifies the presence of ego. A person swayed by ego will receive blows until they are devoid of ego. A deflated ball is taken by the hands, while an inflated ball is kicked mercilessly. Similarly a humble person is well respected, whereas an egoistic person becomes the target of all sorts of attacks. Secular things come and go, whereas spiritual gains stay forever. Hence let spirituality constitute the basis of all your activities.

- Summer Showers Ch1, May 20, 1996.

If Puttaparthi is the place the Lord chose to be born in, transforming it into Prasanthi Nilayam, the centre of His mission of divinising man; Kadugodi in Bengaluru is the holy hamlet Baba selected to create a 'Brindavan', to enact some of the enchanting and endearing leelas of His Avatarhood. What Brindavan has witnessed no other site has been blessed with. It is just like the Brindavan of the Dwapara era where Krishna was one in love and joy with the gopalas and gopikas.

This 'Brindavan' near Whitefield in Bengaluru continues to reverberate with those elevating memories of the Lord's proximity and presence. And to re-live those priceless moments, the alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning organise on the third Sunday of every month 'Samarpan' – a program of gratitude and love to the Lord, where a devotee shares with all indelible experiences and life lessons learnt at the divine lotus feet.

This coming Sunday (17th April, 2016) on the occasion of 60th SAMARPAN Sri Aravind Balasubramanya will share his experience. He is a Alumnus of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL), Prasanthi Nilayam and Content Manager of Radio Sai Global Harmony. He is also an author of 3 popular books released by Parthi book trust - 'Memoirs of a Sai Student', 'Capturing Divinity', 'Living with God’.

The third day of July was a memorable one. First, the flight to Ngorongoro Crater which is the largest concentration of wild life in Africa. Reaching Entebbe International Airport by car, Baba with some members of the party boarded a twin-engined aircraft at 9.00 a.m. For an hour and a half they flew over an immense inland sea of fresh water – Lake Victoria – which the Nile attempts in vain ...to drain.

Hundreds of gazelles, zebras, and wild beasts were seen grazing while the plane flew slowly over the Serengeti National Park. The crater is a huge circular plain, over 127 square miles of grassland, bush and forest, sheltering large masses of wild life. A few farms stocked with fat cattle were to be found in this fantastic milieu.

Rising up almost from nowhere, a stately dowager lioness walked majestically towards a group of sleek giraffes. This onset of danger was communicated to the long-necked fraternity by some birds, and the giraffes in their turn alerted the buffalo, zebra and gnu. In a few seconds, all disappeared into the distance and the distinguished lady stood sniffing the empty air.

Baba drew attention to this demonstration of mutual service. He said that man is highlighting the advantages of competition and the struggle for survival, but the beast is teaching him co-operation and service as the ideal means for survival.

The next episode we will see Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's Badrinath Visit.

Till then stay tuned to Radio Sai.

Over the years, devotees have pleaded with Bhagawan to visit their homes, towns and cities, even their countries. Swami has yielded many times to requests of the first three types, but, in this physical body, Bhagawan has not made trips to other countries.

Whenever devotees constantly plead that Swami's Lotus feet must sanctify their land, in reply, He just smiles and says: "Sugar candy does not go in search of ants; rather it... is the ants that come in search of sugar candy!"

Yet, Bhagawan did make one exception; that was way back in 1968, when He went to East Africa.

Baba travelled to the infant republics of a continent that was emerging into the dawn. He was to confer courage and consolation, to knit hearts and hasten the circulation of love.

Not much was known about Africa in those days, Mother Easwaramma (Bhagawan’s Mother) was deeply concerned because she had heard that Africa was full of wild animals and savages.

When someone gently pointed out that this was not really true, and that even if true, nothing would happen to Swami because He was God, Easwaramma shot back, “I know Swami is God, you know He is God, but do those wild animals and savages know He is God?”

As in the case of Yashoda, so too it was with Easwaramma. Baba was her son first and then only God!

Stay tuned for the Part 02, where Bhagawan visits the great African Safari.

Through Love we can achieve anything - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)
www.sathyasaispeaks.org

Always and at all time you should have the feeling of Love. From the time you get up in the morning, till the time you go back to bed, you should always be smiling and you should be full of love and you should show kindness and tenderness.

...

'Happiness is Union with God', if you are happy at all times, it means you are with God permanently.

'Start the day with love, fill the day with love, spend the day with love and this is the way to God'. Imprint such sacred sayings in your mind and develop yourselves into useful citizens and be always good balvikas children.

It may be that Ramakrishna Paramahamsa had just one disciple in either Brahmananda or Vivekananda but today we have so many Ramakrishna Paramahamsas, Brahmanandas and Vivekanandas.

I hope you will grow into good disciples and develop yourselves into citizens, who are worthy of the traditions of this country.

Why is it important for parents to regulate certain habits such as television viewing habits at home? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.

Bear in mind that youth is the most precious years in one's life and should not be wasted or misspent. To let children watch television from 6 to 10 p.m. is to make them forget all that they have learnt at school or college. In addition, they learn many evil things. If TV... is used for teaching good things, it can serve a worthy purpose. But that is not the case, younger generation is being ruined by undesirable films and programs. Their minds are being poisoned. It is not a sign of parental love to let children grow in this manner. Even parents should avoid going to cinemas. All crimes and violence we witness today are largely the result of the evil influence of films on young minds. While science and technology may appear, to confer many benefits, they also have many harmful effects. To make proper use of scientific knowledge we must have the wisdom and discrimination.

The Vedic literature is the most ancient in the world. It is a treasure house of wisdom. It has contributed to the all-round development of man.

The Veda is the first-ever book in human history. It is the birthplace for human culture and the basis for all kinds of powers. All branches of learning have their origin in the Veda. All dharmas and virtues have sprung from the Veda. The Veda is endless, unf...athomable, indefinable, and blissful.

SRI SATHYA SAI VOLUNTEERS OF NEPAL RENDER SERVICE AT THE RAM JANAKI OLD AGE HOME, SUNSARI

'The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.' ― Mahatma Gandhi ‪#‎GivingAndForgiving‬

The service to the elderly people which the Sai volunteers render in the old age home includes cutting nails, haircut, giving bath, washing clothes, feeding delicious food, cleaning the home and finally invoking the divine blessings through a blissful bhajan session.

More importantly, the volunteers spend a good time with the residents of the home, bringing smiles on their faces.

The Sai Volunteers lovingly instil confidence in them and make them understand that they aren't alone .

Stay away from hatred and criticism - Sathya Sai Speaks (Audio)
www.sathyasaispeaks.org

In the Sathya Sai organizations, we should regard ‘Love’ as the essential life giving source. Amongst the members of the Sathya Sai Organizations, if one member feels any hatred or jealousy or even a difference of opinion towards another, that would be a sin. This would be like betraying the organization itself. We should make an attempt to remove such bad thoughts.

...

People who have such ideas and thoughts, have no right to enter the organization. Knowingly or unknowingly the past has passed. Even by offering crores of rupees one cannot get back what has gone by. What is coming ahead of us does not belong to us. What exists at this moment is not permanent.

In this context what is it that we are taking as permanent, what is it that we believe as truth? Past has gone; if we think that we will do something in future, where is the certainty that we will remain till tomorrow? It’s been an hour since this meeting has started; time is fleeting away like water flowing under our feet.

Thus, without thinking about any of the differences of opinion that may have existed in the past, Swami hopes that at least from today you all start promoting mutual love and acceptance amongst the members of the organization keeping aside the feelings of jealousy, hatred and ego.

Most importantly amongst the members of the sevadal, finding faults in oneself is much more useful than to find faults in others. It is only the one, who is completely free from all faults, that has the right to search for faults of others. What are the qualities of one who is completely free from faults? Since he is free from all faults he will never find a fault anywhere. How can he search for faults anywhere?

Thus, if one thinks that one is free of faults one cannot find fault anywhere; on the other hand if one has faults then one does not have the right to find faults with others; either way one is not entitled to find faults! Therefore, it is very necessary to look for the faults that exist in us, remove those faults and thereby promote the purity in us.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, TUESDAY, APRIL 5, 2016

Why should we divert our mind from the distractions of the world? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a powerful thought to ponder upon.

Though it is hard to restrain the mind, it can be diverted. When the mind steeped in the secular world is diverted toward Divinity, it gains in moral strength. The mind steeped in the worldly matters makes you a prisoner of the world, whereas a mind steeped in God secures liberation ...for you. Your heart is the lock and your mind is the key. When you turn the key to the left, it locks. But if you turn the key to the right, it unlocks. It is the turning of the key that makes the difference. Hence the mind is the cause for your liberation as well as bondage. What then is liberation (Moksha)? It is not an air-conditioned mansion, but a state devoid of delusion (Moha). Majesty and morality lie in diverting the mind from the world to God. It is this simple and powerful concept that really contributes to your progress and prosperity.

"Hands That Serve Are Holier Than The Lips That Pray".

Swami would say, “You are not a Seva Dal only when you wear a scarf. Remember you are a Seva Dal always and every opportunity to serve that presents before you, you must utilise it.”

Clearly Bhagawan was not suggesting that we merely be a part of a group or organisation and perform Seva on weekends and holidays alone. He was encouraging us to develop the attitude of Seva. For that we must consider this as a path that leads to our goal, the Lord. Then the feeling of gratitude for the opportunity and reverence for the act will be spontaneous. This will also aid in us performing Seva in the best possible way.

NEW HOSTEL BUILDING FOR MUDDENAHALLI CAMPUS, SSSIHL

In 2009 Bhagawan announced and laid foundation for the fourth campus of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, at Muddenahalli in Karnataka. The campus building was later inaugurated, with Bhagawan’s blessings, in May 2011. This building housed the classrooms as well as the boarding quarters for the students and teachers. With the steady increase in the number of students, the campus needed a new and well-equipped hostel. On 2 April 2016 the campus got its very own hostel building. With joy we share some pictures of the building and the inauguration ceremony.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, MONDAY, APRIL 4, 2016

How should we use this precious birth? And what is the role parents must play in imparting this lesson? Bhagawan, our loving God kindly explains to us today.

What is the origin of pride? Is it knowledge? No! It is ignorance. What is the cause of ignorance? It is the feeling of duality. Where did duality originate? From attachment and hatred (Raga and Dwesha). What is the origin of these two? They are the produ...cts of circumstances. How did circumstances come about? Through Karma (past deeds).

What is the cause of Karma? Birth! Thus be clear that birth is the cause of all sorrow. Only by seeking freedom from birth that you can free oneself from sorrow. The opportunity of a human birth must be used for realising this supreme goal. The duty of parents is to set children on the right path from their early years. They should not hesitate to correct them and even punish them when the children take to wrong ways. The best way parents can show their love for their children is to do everything necessary to lead them on the righteous path.

- Divine Discourse, 5 Feb 1984.

What is the kind of devotion we must strive to develop? Bhagawan gives us a wonderful example today.

The life of Prahlada is a testament of real devotion to God. Though severely tortured by his father, Hiranyakashipu, Prahlada stood firm as a rock, steadfast in his devotion to Vishnu. At a tender age, Prahlada planted God firmly in his heart and withstood every storm and stress. Physical afflictions had no eff...ect on him and did not reduce his devotion. The mind steeped in the Love of God is beyond any shock and strain like the chloroformed patient who is oblivious of the incisions made by the surgical instruments. Only Love of this kind can ultimately be victorious. But today, the devotion of the people wavers with every trying circumstance. When our wishes are fulfilled, we install many photographs for worship; and when our wishes are not fulfilled, we throw out the photographs. Pain is a part of life and must be accepted at any cost. Pleasure is an interval between two pains.

- Summer Showers Ch1, May 20, 1996.

Accept pain and pleasure as gifts from God, for there is no pleasure without pain and no pain without pleasure. - BABA.

What are the most important qualities all of us must cultivate assiduously if we consider ourselves as devotees? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.

You spend a great deal of time to acquire some material object or other. How much time do you devote to thoughts of God? You shed tears profusely to experience a pleasure related to the senses. Do you shed a single tear for experiencing God? How then can you rea...lise God? Today Bhakthi (devotion) has become a mass-produced manufactured product. But are the devotees practicing what they profess? Without practice, can the fruits of devotion be realised? The 12th Canto of the Bhagavad Gita clearly describes the qualities of a true devotee. The primary virtue is absence of hatred towards any living thing: Cultivate Universal Love (Advesta-sarva-bhutanam.) Avoid causing harm to others. Do not speak ill of any one. Give up pride and egoism. Cultivate purity of thought, speech and action. Spirituality is not separate from other aspects of life. Spirituality permeates everything.

“What has been taught to you during these fifteen days is the essence of the sacred Vedanta”, said Swami about this phenomenal series of discourses we have had the pleasure of revisiting. Vedanta itself is said to be the essence of the Vedas. How can we say that the Vedas, which are believed to talk about rigorous ritualistic rigmaroles, essentially teach us the oneness o...f the Atman and the means to realise it? To understand that, we must see the Vedas from the view point of the great seers who gifted them to us. And that is the journey Bhagawan takes us through in this grand concluding discourse, ‘Vedic Wisdom.’

When the Master of the Universe, Sri Sathya Sai baba "April Fooled" His students #‎aprilfoolsday2016‬

Once Baba was to reach Bangalore a few days after the Shivaratri festival at Puttaparthi. But even after a week or ten days He did not move. Students at Bangalore were disappointed at the delay and they started imagining about possible reasons. But towards the end of March news reached them that Swami was shortly expected there. Their joy had no bounds.

The usual preparati...ons were carried out briskly for receiving the Lord. Baba came. The students sang and did Aarathi. He received it with no smile or talk. The students were flabbergasted. Each one started a vigorous and thorough search of his heart. None could find any reason. Swami gave darshan to the devotees and returned to His residence with head down as if to avoid the students standing in a row on either side. Their prayer for reason was unanswered. There was gloom in the campus. They apologised for any error unknowingly committed. No effect. Prayer turned into sobs and tears.

The next day He gave darshan and returned as usual. But this time the students were determined and they encircled Him and cried for Pardon. Nothing happened. He looked only downward. A few seconds passed in grave silence. Then He like a great actor just mumbled "April Fool". There was a spurt of radiant laughter, which was shared with love by Swami as well.

What a drama! The Divine actor cum director wanted to open the floodgates of joy to His ever loved dearest children, His 'only property'.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, FRIDAY, APRIL 1, 2016

How can we experience divinity in daily living? What is the one key quality that will help us get there? Bhagawan explains to us today.

True learning is like an X-ray camera, which lays bare the innermost details with perfect fidelity. Our mind should be like an X-ray with Love as the film, such that it captures the entire perso...nality of a being with accuracy. An X-ray machine without film is of no use, as nothing can be captured then. Love must be abiding and eternal. But today the love of people is transient and ephemeral, and may expire at any time. It is not at all worthy of being called Love. True Love endures trial and turbulence, loss, and pain, and transcends every trying circumstance. Never forget God under any circumstance, however difficult it might be. Our Love for God should survive every onslaught, and resist all the ravages of time and the vicissitudes of life. Our Love should not change and float with every passing wind. The lives of great devotees demonstrate to us how firm and strong our devotion should be.
