PARTHI NEWS - MARCH 2014

Sea of humanity at Dharmakshetra - Ugadi & Cheti Chand Celebrations - 31st March, 2014

A sea of humanity covered Dharmakshetra and its environs on Monday for the Cheti Chand Celebrations at Dharmakshetra on 31st March, 2014. The traffic ca...me to a grinding halt. It was an awesome sight to see this spiritual lighthouse of Dharmakshetra blessed by Bhagawan reflecting the sacred vibrations which touched the conscience of each and every soul who had come here. Bhagawan had always assured that those who visit Dharmakshetra with reverence will find a sense of fulfillment, peace and also raise the level of their "Consciousness" or "Awareness".

The day began in the morning with the Palkhi Yatra by the devotees of Sri Swami Swami Samarth Maharaj followed by Prasadam.

In the evening the entire Dharmakshetra wore a festive look as people from all walks of life joined in the celebrations.

The Rath Yatra of Sai Jhulelal began at 4.45 pm from Satya Deep and the chariot went around the neigbourhood and converged back at Dharmakshetra after an hour. Bhajans were sung purifying the atmosphere around the area .

After the lighting of the lamp by Sri Indulal Shah, International Advisor, Sathya Sai Organisations (Overseas) and Trustee, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust and Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Prashanti Nilayam the programme began.

Ms. Manju Nichani , Principal, K. C. College spoke on the importance of speaking in Sindhi and highlighted her views very emphatically.

Ms. Kaajal Chandiramani, the nightingale of the Sindhi Community, brought the house down time and again with her beautiful, melodious voice. It was a power packed performance which went on for more than an hour. The program ended with the Aarti to Lord Jhulelal and Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba followed by Palau and prasadam.

Bhagawan's presence was indeed felt throughout the celebrations.

Detailed report will be followed soon

MARCH 29TH, 2014 NEWS FROM PUTTAPARTHI

Om Sairam dearest Sai Family

Greetings to one and all from warm Puttaparthi. The big peepal tree inside the Ganesh Gate is shedding leaves and as we enter the ashram, there is this 'crispy' noise as your feet crushes the leaves of the Peepal Tree, thus signalling the arrival of Summer in Parthi, which in fact came bit early. Only "sweet thing" about this season is the Mangoes which are now in flowering stage. If Swami were to be in His "physical form" this is when the rumours of His going to Bangalore or Kodaikanal starts.

In spite of the hot summer, the crowd in Parthi are still constant considering the Final exams for all the kids in India.

This April there will be series of programmes in Sai Kulwanth Hall, starting from April 14th Tamil New year and April 15 Vishu followed by Swami's Mahasamadhi day (Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam) on April 24th.

This year, the Telugu New Year UGADI is falling on March 31st. Telugu Calender has 60 years and each calender year has a specific name. This year will be called as VIJAYA (Victory).

ELECTION FEVER IN INDIA:

India, the largest democracy in the world will go for elections in various phases from April 7 to May 12th. The elections in Puttaparthi is scheduled on April 30th. Various political parties have already started their canvassing, reaching out the unreached asking for votes. This time the voters are more vigilant, so also are the political parties..

SATHYA SAI ORGANISATION OF KARNATAKA WINS AWARD FOR THE EXCELLENT SERVICE RENDERED:

It is in fact a pride moment for the Sathya Organisation, as the Karnataka state wing of Sai Organisation will be receiving the award for the excellent services they are rendering to the poor, set up by the Sri Sankara Television( A spiritual channel which has been doing yeomen service in spreading the message of Sanathana Dharma).

Sri Sathya Sai Organisations, Karnataka has been blessed for being dear and near to Bhagawan for many years. Due to geographical closeness to Puttaparthi and due to Swami's ashram, colleges and hospitals in and around Bangalore, The Sri Sathya Sai Organisation of Karnataka had a key role to play. Sri.Nagesh Dhakappa, the State President Karnataka fondly remembers Swami's "DIVINE COMMAND" right after the inauguration of Super Speciality Hospital in Bangalore, where He said, the Karnataka sevadals should look after both the hospitals and the ashram set up by Swami in Karnataka. Even to this day, the humble sevadals are following the divine command by attending to various duties and serving every one. The sevadals that serve in Swami's super speciality hospital and General Hospital in Bangalore are always from Karnataka, round the year..

With a strong registered members of 10,000 sevadals and at any given time there are 300 sevadals ready on the job, this award to this state is another feather in the cap, a recognition which speaks of the heights of their devotion and dedication.

Mr.Nagesh Dhakappa, the State President of Karnataka Sai Organisation will receive this award which will be live telecast-ed at 6:30 PM (IST) on Sunday, March 30, 2014 in Sri Sankara TV.

A SURPRISE GUEST TO SRI SATHYA SAI SCHOOL IN VISAKHAPATNAM:

It was indeed very nice of long time devotee of Bhagawan and a legend of Indian Cricket, Mr.Sunil Gavaskar to visit Sathya Sai School in Visakhapatnam and interact with students. Mr.Sunil Gavaskar has just recently asked by the supreme court of India to take over as the head of BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) as the present chairman has been asked to step aside citing some allegations. This is a clear example for all of us, surrender every thing at His lotus feet, the opportunities will come knocking the door. If there is any one whom you should catch the feet of it has to be Swami's Lotus feet and none else.

Floral tribute to Swami

According to reports, Mr.Sunil Gavaskar shared his story of his early cricketing years and also of Swami. The children would have been very happy to have an esteemed visitor in their premises. Hearty congratulations to the Sathya Sai Organisation of Vizag for co-ordinating such a high profile visit to Sathya Sai School, Vizag.

India has exactly 100 Sai Schools and it would be nice for the school managements (both in India and overseas) to have such guests invited so that it would inspire the students to emulate their examples. It is very nice to know that devotees like Sunil Gavaskar (who can inspire many in the society and have been ardent devotees of Bhagawan for long) are turning up at such venues and showing their devotion to Swami. Personally, i was little disappointed when Sachin didn't have the courtesy to have Swami's name read out in his most famous farewell speech after his final match in Mumbai last year even though there are no doubts of his devotion towards Swami and His love for Swami is second to none.

TWO NEW BOOKS OF PROF.ANIL KUMAR:

With Swami's grace, the two books titled, DIVINE JOURNEY & HERE AND NOW was released in the satsang hall, Prasanthi Nilayam by Prof.Anil Kumar on March 28, 2014. Priced at Rs.70 & 60 respectively, these books are now available in Swami's book store in the ashram and very soon in the nearest Sai Book store in your locality.

This book consists of talks given by Prof.Anil Kumar in the year 2012. Speaking on this occasion, Prof.Anil Kumar said so far 35 books have been released and all of them have been done through Sri Sathya Sai Sadhana Trust ( Publications Division) with all the copyrights given to the Trust. It was a day when the young hearts were bowled by the gracious presence and guidance of the legendary cricketer none other than Sunil Gavaskar who visited Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar school yesterday.

The “Little master” was received with Purnakumbham amidst Vedic chanting by the young children. Soon after entering the sprawling school campus, Sri Gavaskar offered flowers at the Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s alter at Sri Satya Sai Prema Sadan Mandir located in the school campus. Thereafter he was escorted by the school captains with a bright and loving smile amidst thunderous applause and standing ovation.

Describing Sri Gavaskar as an ardent devotee of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Prof. Prasannakumar said that Sri Gavaskar and his entire family were lucky to have plenty of Bhagawan’s blessings. Addressing the children, Sri Gavaskar said that when he was having a turbulent time in professional period in cricket, Bhagawan Baba advised Gavaskar to be more patient, disciplined and determined to face any challenge. That advise and blessing from Swami made a remarkable change in his life and career. Advising the children, Sri Gavaskar said that to have a successful career in life, everyone should have dedication towards their job, determination not to worry about any hurdle and above all, discipline makes one’s physical and mental state of mind to perform the job at 100% ability.

Sri Gavaskar signed autograph on a cricket bat, cricket ball and students presented him a memento as a token of love with a Thank You card. Then Sri Gavaskar offered Mangal Aarathi to Bhagawan Baba amidst singing of bhajans by all the students, Staff and Honourable Guests.

Malnutrition Camp Detailed Report - Sangli District

Report of the Mobile Medicare Project of Sangli District which includes the free medical camps conducted from August 2011 to February 2014. In the month of March 2014 the Malnutrition cases which were identified during the previous camps conducted. The detailed report of the first malnutrition camp conducted in March 2014 is attached.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/58bliwi25fabyci/Malnutrition.pdf

More than half of all child deaths are associated with malnutrition, which weakens the body's resistance to illness. Poor diet, frequent illness, and inadequate or inattentive care of young children can lead to malnutrition.

If a woman is malnourished during pregnancy, or if her child is malnourished during the first two years of life, the child's physical and mental growth and development may be slowed. This cannot be made up when the child is older – it will affect the child for the rest of his or her life.

Children have the right to a caring, protective environment and to nutritious food and basic health care to protect them from illness and promote growth and development.

Malnutrition in India

Malnutrition is more common in India than in Sub-Saharan Africa. One in every three malnourished children in the world lives in India.

About 50 per cent of all childhood deaths are attributed to malnutrition. Malnutrition limits development and the capacity to learn.

In India, around 46 per cent of all children below the age of three are too small for their age, 47 per cent are underweight and at least 16 per cent are wasted. Many of these children are severely malnourished.

The prevalence of malnutrition varies across states, with Madhya Pradesh recording the highest rate (55 per cent) and Kerala among the lowest (27 per cent).

Malnutrition in children is not affected by food intake alone; it is also influenced by access to health services, quality of care for the child and pregnant mother as well as good hygiene practices. Girls are more at risk of malnutrition than boys because of their lower social status.

Malnutrition in early childhood has serious, long-term consequences because it impedes motor, sensory, cognitive, social and emotional development. Malnourished children are less likely to perform well in school and more likely to grow into malnourished adults, at greater risk of disease and early death. Around one-third of all adult women are underweight. Inadequate care of women and girls, especially during pregnancy, results in low-birth weight babies. Nearly 30 per cent of all newborns have a low birth weight, making them vulnerable to further malnutrition and disease.

Vitamin and mineral deficiencies also affect children’s survival and development. Anaemia affects 74 per cent of children under the age of three, more than 90 per cent of adolescent girls and 50 per cent of women. Iodine deficiency, which reduces learning capacity by up to 13 per cent, is widespread because fewer than half of all households use iodised salt. Vitamin A deficiency, which causes blindness and increases morbidity and mortality among pre-schoolers, also remains a public-health problem. (sourced http://hetv.org/programmes/nutrition.htm )

It is therefore for the above reasons that the SSSSO Maharastra has started to tackle Malnutrition programme under their Mobile Medicare Project.

'Sathya Sai with Students' Blog Update - Week 80

Sai Ram,

'Sathya Sai with Students' blog team takes this opportunity to wish, in advance, all our readers from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka 'A Very Happy Ugaadi', those from Maharashtra 'A Very Happy Gudi Padwa', and those from Sind, ' A Very Happy Cheti Chand'. May Swami's blessings and grace be on all in this new year... We present articles for Week 80:

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: We are always possessive of myriad relationships that we have in the world - parents, children, spouse, siblings, friends and relatives. But who is our true kith and kin? Through a very humorous anecdote, Swami elaborates on this theme: 'Who belongs to you in this world?'

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/03/who-belongs-to-you-in-this-world.html

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Brother Sudhakar Reddy writes on the theme: "When Sri Sathya Sai saved me from the World Trade Center terror attack..."

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/03/when-sri-sathya-sai-saved-me-from-world.html

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: We reminisce an interesting conversation between Swami, students and staff on this very day in the year 2001. He shared a number of insights about life and living to students who were to leave the portals of His Institute in a few day's time. One of the advice that Swami gave was on: The need to respect women of the household.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/03/need-to-respect-women-of-household.html

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: In a Discourse to students of the Management Programme of His University, Swami provides a 'Three-point Personal Lifestyle Charter to be followed by Values-Based Managers'. We culminate this three-part series.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/03/three-point-personal-lifestyle-charter_27.html

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: It appears that the month of March was a month of hectic travels for Swami. It was in this fortnight in the year 1975 that Swami visited various cities of North India including Delhi, Amritsar, Shimla and Chandigarh. We reminisce the events of that memorable visit...

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/03/sri-sathya-sai-visits-north-india-delhi.html

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: As the academic year of the Sri Sathya Sai Educational Institutions comes to an end this month, we present at the end of this month a song students often sing to Bhagavan in the Prasanthi Nilayam portico during their Gratitude Programmes, which has been composed by Swami Himself: Daya Cheta Dhanyulu Kaavalera... One should be blessed by Sai's Compassion...

Invitation for the Cheti Chand programme on 31st March 2014 at Dharmakshetra

Sai Ram

Attached is the e-invite for the Cheti Chand programme on 31st March 2014 at Dharmakshetra Mumbai from 4.30 pm. Looking forward to seeing you. Please feel free to bring your family and friends.

Cheti Chand (Sindhi: چيٽي چنڊ) is an important festival celebrated as New Year's Day by Sindhi people. It is also celebrated by the Sindhi diaspora around the world. According to the Hindu calendar, it is the second day of the month chaitra (i.e. a day after Ugadi and Gudi Padwa), known as Chet in the Sindhi language. Hence it is known as Chet-i-Chand.

The Sindhi community celebrates the festival of Cheti Chand in honour of the birth of Ishtadeva Uderolal, popularly known as Jhulelal, the patron saint of the Sindhis. This day is considered to be very auspicious and is celebrated with pomp and gaiety. On this day, people worship water – the elixir of life.

Followers of Jhulelal observe Chaliho Sahab. It suggests that for forty long days and nights they underwent rituals and vigil on the bank of Sindhu. They did not shave, nor did they wear new clothes or shoes. They did not use soap or oil or any opulent thing. They just washed their clothes, dried them and wore them again. In the evening, they worshiped God Varun (Vedic deity of water and cosmic order), sang songs in his praise and prayed for solace and salvation. After 40 days of Chaaliho, the followers of Jhulelal celebrate the occasion with festivity as 'Thanks Giving Day' even till today.

On this day, many Sindhis take Baharana Sahib to a nearby river or lake. Baharana Sahib consists of Jyot (Oil Lamp), Misiri (Crystal Sugar), Phota (Cardamom), Fal (Fruits), and Akha. Behind is Kalash (Water jar) and a Nariyal (Coconut) in it, covered with cloth, phool (flowers) and patta (leaves). There is also a Murti (Idol) of Pujya Jhulelal Devta (Pujya=Worthy of worship, Devta=Deity).

Sindhis greet each other with "Cheti Chand jyon Lakh Lakh Wadayun Athav" on Cheti Chand

History

Jhulelal, Ishta Dev of Sindhis, was born on Cheti Chand, to Rattan Rao Luhana and his wife Devaki and is also known as Lal Sai, Uderolal, Varun Dev and Zinda Pir .

Cheti Chand falls on the second day of the Chaitra month and is very auspicious day for Sindhis. Sindhis all over the world celebrate this day in Jhulelal's memory

Legend has it that, In the tenth century when Arabs were declining and the Soomras were coming up, Ruller of Thatta, Mirkh Shah, ordered the Hindus to embrace lslam.

The Hindus asked Mirkh Shah for some time to think over the order. Mirkh Shah agreed to give Hindus forty days.

The Hindus then gathered on the banks of the mighty Sindhu and prayed to God Varuna to save them. For forty days, they continued the prayer.

They neither shaved nor wore new clothes, praying and fasting and singing songs in praise of God Varuna.

On the fortieth day, a voice was heard "Fear not, I shall save you from the wicked Mirkh Shah. I shall come down as a mortal and take birth in the womb of Mata Devaki in the house of Rattan Rao Luhana of Nasarpur".

Even today Followers of Jhulelal perform this prayer for forty days ("chaliho") and celebrate "Thanksgiving Day" after "chaliho".

As expected on Cheti Chand, Jhulelal was born to Mata Devaki as "Udaichand". He was also known as "Uderolal".

Hindus have asked for some more time from Mirkh Shah in the meantime and Mirkh Shah on knowing about the "mysterious child" being born as savior of Hindus, decided to give them more time just to prove his supremacy.

In his growing years, people got more convinced of Uderolal being their savior.

Uderolal was asked to appear before Mirkh Shah,

Uderolal urged Mirkh Shah about Hindu-Muslim unity and oneness of God, but Mirkh Shah was not convinced and ordered his arrest.

As Uderolal was being arrested, people saw a sudden great waves of water flooded the place and fire too broke our and the palace in flames.

Uderolal explained Mirkh Shah, that there is no point of arguing, as all God are one and same and we should all live in peace.

Mirkh Shah, on seeing this miracle, was terrified and pleaded for mercy. As soon as he pleaded for mercy, the water receded away and fire flames were gone too.

Since then, Jhulelal is worshiped by both Hindus and Muslims.

Sai Ram Healing Vibrations - What is vibrionics ?

Sai Vibrionics, commonly called Vibrionics, is also sometimes referred to as Sai Ram Healing Vibrations, Vibro-healing, Vibropathy, or Vibration Healing. It is an alternative system of healing which works at curing diseases by acting on the Subtle body of the life form. In this method of healing, no physical or chemical substance is administered to the patient. Instead vibrations in the form of high frequency electro-magnetic waves are given in a solid or liquid medium like small sugar pills or water to balance the chakras and meridians.

Sai Vibrionics is drug-free and safe, has zero side effects and can cure any type of illness. The purpose of healing with this method is to provide a simple, quick, effective and natural system that can be implemented inexpensively by practitioners as a means of free service to mankind and all life and offered to people free-of-charge as "Vibrionics". This method of vibration healing encompasses the basic homeopathic principle "Like Cures Like".

Sai Vibrionics' vibrations are used to promote healing and health in people, animals and plants by using nature's own subtle energy centres (chakras) within the body.

HOLY 2014 AND AKHANDA JYOTHI ARRIVAL, NEWS FROM PUTTAPARTHI

DEVOTEES TAKING THE AKHANDA JYOTHI AS PROCESSION IN PUTTAPARTHI

Om Sairam dearest Sai Family,

Greetings to one and all, on the HOLY occassion of HOLI from the HOLY land Puttaparthi.

This festival of colours had more vibrant colours added in the form of 2 day dance drama presentation by the Bihar and Jharkhand  states of India.

The Balvikas children and the youths had some beautiful programmes with colourful costumes and the highlight of all was the story of Swami Vivekananda and his Guru Rama Krishna Paramahamsa.

AKHANDA JYOTHI ARRIVES IN PUTTAPARTHI:

MR.SURI BABU IS SEEN WITH THE AKHANDA JYOTHI

This is a very interesting and touching story of some "unsung" devotees' devotion. This is the story of  one man by name Suri Babu who is a poor peasant from Bangaram Peta village, from the district of Visakha patnam, Andhra Pradesh

As we all know  and you get to see more of this in India, people do deeksha ( a religious ceremony where people wear special dress, walk bear foot, avoid rajasic food and spend a lot of time in japa, dhyana and singing the glory of the Lord for certain number of days). The famous being Ayyappa deeksha where any one visiting India in the month of November-December would have seen people wearing black dress. There is also Shiva Deeksha, Bhavani Deeksha and more recently there came Shirdi deeksha as well, where people wear orange dress with their heads covered with a cloth like Shirdi Baba for certain number of days and the deeksha is completed after having darshan of Mahasamadhi in Shirdi.

So Mr. Suri Babu  from Bangaram Peta village also thought of having such deeksha done in the name of Swami even though our Lord emphasised to be spiritual the whole life and not those few days of doing the deeksha.

FEW MEMBERS OF HIS SAI DEEKSHA GROUP

He started off with 30 people in the year 2006 and now has a strong group of 300 people who do this deeksha,  by wearing white dress, walk bear foot, address every one as SAIRAM, no onion in the food and also daily sadhana which includes nagarsankirtan and bhajans.

The unique thing of Mr.Suri Babu is his innocence which grabbed the attention of Swami and many times he was given padanamaskar and had chance to speak with Swami. There was one occasion when Swami even distributed clothes to his group

He is one devotee who motivated so many to join the Sai movement. This year as well he came with his group (which had 80 % first timers to Parthi) and the good thing that he did this year was to bring the Akhanda Jyothi(which was lit on May 6th 2013 and was never lit off). The Akhanda Jyothi was worshipped every day and was taken around 9 neighbouring villages. The devotees also did Sathya Sai Sahasra naama (chanting of the holy name) and between 350 people they did 9 crores (one crore has seven zeros) chantings which shows their dedication and unsullied love for Swami. Swami on numerous occasions has emphasised the importance of Naama samarana especially in Kaliyuga as it is the only BOAT  that will let us cross the ocean of life. These devotees are really blessed and our role models, a reminder to every one of us to continue to have the name of the Lord in our hearts, in line with our heart beat.

DEVOTEES TAKING THE AKHANDA JYOTHI AS PROCESSION IN PUTTAPARTHI

The devotees wanted to bring the Akhanda Jyothi to Prashanth Nilayam and the problem was how to bring it. The train journey which is 20 hours ONLY was not possible as the security said no citing security reasons and the same was with the bus. These devotees with no other option left travelled all the way to Parthi (with the Akhanda Jyothi) from their native places in trucks and finally reached Puttaparthi. They took around the Jyothi in the streets of Puttaparthi, took to the ashram as well and the Jyothi was later offered at Swami's birth place.

If there is any one who is carrying the legacy of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba today, it is innocent and whole hearted devotees like Mr.Suri Babu. They may not have had the privilege to have His darshan in close quarters, would not have had the opportunity to speak, sing in the divine presence, they would not have got any DIVINE VISITING CARDS but for them to carry on His legacy in spite and in times of His physical absence speaks very high of their spiritual awareness. This also is an eye opener to all those devotees who enjoyed the "Physical proximity" of our Lord, but now off track, to come back into the Sai Movement and do their bit in the betterment of the Spiritual bank balance and not just the Physical bank balance.

Sai Ram,

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: Each one of us have a very personal understanding of God and His role in our lives. But can we imagine that the Lord is ready to do the most unthinkable of tasks for the upliftment of His devotees? In a Discourse to His students, Swami said: "God is like a Dhobi (Washer man)...

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: It was in this week in the year 1968 that Swami visited Mumbai to inspect the construction work of Dharmakshetra and also supervise the preparations for the First World Conference of the Sri Sathya Sai Organisations to be held in Mumbai in May 1968. He also visited Hyderabad and blessed the multitudes with His Darshan and Anugraham. We reminisce the events in this week that year...

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: On Saturday, February 26, 2002, Swami visited the Hostel of Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School at Prasanthi Nilayam. It was one of His last visits, but a memorable one. He interacted with the staff and students, and even blessed them with a Divine Discourse. We reminisce the Divine visit and the Divine Message and culminate it in the second part of this two-part series.

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: At the tender age of 13, before He declared His Avatarhood, Swami had shown a number of Leelas (Divine Plays). We reminisce one such Leela of His control over the elements shown in this very week 75 years ago.
