What is the role of the mind? How should we utilise it? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Monday, June 30, 2014

As a pilgrim, you are helped or handicapped by the antics of the mind. The mind has as its warp and woof, desire or thirst for something or the other, getting some gain or avoiding some loss. Desire arises from attachment, which is a consequence of delusion. Desire distorts and denigrates the mi...nd, and keeps it incessantly agitated. No sheet of water can be calm when stones drop on it, and if there is a perpetual shower of desires, it will be pitifully restless. The bliss which emanates from the Soul (Atma) must be stored leveraging the reservoir of your mind (Buddhi). But, if the reservoir has many cracks and crevices (senses), bliss (Aananda) will be frittered away rendering the reservoir of mind dry. When the hunger of the senses is sought to be appeased, your mind becomes vacillating and wayward. Your mind’s legitimate role is to be the master of your senses, which are its servants.

-Divine Discourse, 22 Jan 1982.
.
Your mind must be trained to develop a taste for the good and the godly, not for money or material gains.-BABA.

Vata Vriksha of Prasanthi Turns 55 Years Today!

By Radio Sai

Radio Sai is pleased to bring you some glimpses of the Vata Vriksham Anniversary Celebration held in Prasanthi Nilayam on 29th June 2014.

The Supreme plant of Puttaparthi, the Banyan Tree planted by the Divine Hands of Bhagawan turns 55 today on 29 June 2014. Counting on the profundity of the mysterious mystic touch of the supreme-most Avatar, one remains dazed wondering, watching this most tranquil ‘avatar’ of Parthi, conferring meditative bliss to seekers-earnest at the behest of Master Of All Masters, God Of All Gods, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai, acting as His potent tool.

(Description courtesy: The Prasanthi Reporter)
Radiosai facebook team

"There stands a banyan tree on the mountain path leading from Prashanti Nilayam to the University. It is no ordinary tree. It is the Dhyana Vriksham, the Tree of Meditation; and it is the Thapo Vriksham, the Tree of Spiritual Austerities. On 29 June 1959, (ashadha Poornima, i.e., the full moon day of ashadha month) Bhagavan materialised a thick copper plate of 15" x 10" inscribed with alphabetical letters of great spiritual potency (Beeja Aksharas). He deposited it in the earth at a spot specially chosen on the hill behind Prashanti Nilayam, and over it planted this banyan tree. On that sacred occasion, He addressed devotees and declared : "This tree is the Bodhi Tree, under which Gautama Buddha sat, meditated and received spiritual illumination. This is the Tree of Enlightenment (Jnan). Lord Krishna is known as Vata Pathra Sayi (reposing on a banyan leaf), because during the period of Pralaya (ultimate merger of all creation in the Infinite), he assumed the microcosmic form of Bala Krishna (Krishna, the Baby) and reposed on a banyan leaf. This is the tree referred to by Sri Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. If aspirants (Sadhakas) meditate and undertake spiritual austerities here, they will attain fulfillment of their desires, success in their efforts, control of senses and steadiness of mind." With reference to planting of this tree, one of the lines in the Ashtothara Satha Namavali reads : "Sadhaka-Anugraha Vata-Vriksha Prathishthapakaya Namah."

The banyan lives forever. It is immortal (Amara Vriksham). Growing into a mighty tree by itself, it drops innumerable root-like extensions from its branches to the earth, which in turn becomes fresh roots and extend the tree in all directions. The process goes on and on, providing an ever-increasing area of cool shade and shelter to people. I do not hesitate to assert that Bhagavan is likewise providing ever-increasing zone of protection and peace for the benefit of the entire humanity. This Thapo Vriksham is certainly Kalpa Vriksham (wishfulfilling celestial tree), identical with Bhagavan. Those who are in intense distress and are tired with the ups and downs of life, those who are on spiritual quest, those who ardently desire something pure, those who are progressing on the path of spiritual enlightenment - all such persons gather at the feet of Sri Sathya Sai and attain tranquility, supreme peace and equanimity. Truly is Baba Himself a Thapo Vriksham where all spiritual austerities achieve fulfillment! Prashanti Nilayam is verily the Thapovanam."

We often read scriptures as mere stories and miss the hidden message. Today Bhagawan lovingly unravels one such message from the epic Ramayana.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Sunday, June 29, 2014

In the Ramayana story, Queen Kaikeyi yields to the selfish wiles of her maid and as a consequence, her lord King Dasaratha lost his life. Rama who she regarded as her very life-breath was exiled into the forest, and Bharatha her son, disowned her f...or the very same act! She drew on herself the condemnation from all the people in the Kingdom of Ayodhya. The story is an allegory. Dasaratha is the human body with the five senses of perception and the five senses of action - the ten chariots or Dasha-ratha. He wedded the Queen, the Mind, and the mind yielded to the servant and caused the downfall. This clearly teaches us the legitimate role of the mind as the master of one’s senses. If the master serves the servants, then, he or she loses their self-respect and falls in the esteem of all.

-Divine Discourse, 20 Nov 1982.

Your endeavor must be to bend the body, mend the senses and end the mind.-BABA.

Radio Sai H2H Special: DISCIPLINE – A MANDATORY PREREQUISITE FOR DEVOTION

An essay based on the Divine Discourse delivered on June 19, 1996 by Prof. G. Venkataraman

One of Radio Sai's new initiatives has been to re-translate Bhagawan's Divine Discourses now paying meticulous attention to every word Swami has spoken so that the content and flavour of Bhagawan's message is conveyed as accurately as possible. This new translation is now freshly voiced over and mixed with Bhaga...wan's voice in Telugu. The audio link below takes you to a discourse of Bhagawan on the theme of Discipline presented in this new format. What follows after this is an essay version of this discourse by Prof. G. Venkataraman.

Listen the new discourse here in this Audio link: http://dl.radiosai.org/SI/2014/0627.htm

Read the full discourse here: http://sssbpt.info/ssspeaks/volume29/sss29-21.pdf

The Fundamental Essence of Discipline

“In today’s world, discipline has lost its fundamental meaning, which is that of strict control of the senses and the mind. That is why most people are totally ignorant about the vital need for sense control and instead associate discipline with something far less significant. The eyes, for example, must be cautioned, “Oh eyes! What is it that you are looking at? Never look at anything that is bad.” That is what discipline really boils down to namely, mastery of the senses and the mind without which mastery over action is impossible.

It is all very simple really. See no evil, see what is good. Talk no evil, talk what is good. Hear no evil, hear what is good. Think no evil, think what is good. Do no evil, do what is good; that is the way to God. Be positive always and do good, see good, talk good, hear good and think good – this is the discipline you must follow. Make sure to keep your tongue under control. No matter what the provocation, you should always remain calm and restrain yourself. Perfect equanimity – that is the hall mark of total control.”

What is the means to progress as a society and community? What is most essential for the same? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Saturday, June 28, 2014

Co-operation among individuals grouped as a society guarantees security and stability. It is called, Shri Rama Raksha (protection), the mark of Divine Grace. The surest sign of awareness of one’s Divine Nature is the recognition of the bond of kinship wit...h other beings. This bond has now snapped, and as a result, life has been rendered meaningless. The evil spirits of greed and pride, of envy and hatred, are executing their demonic dance in the hearts of man. People are not able to appreciate the value of the air they breathe, of the Sun's rays that illumine the world, the drops of rain that sustain life, and the subtle power that underlies every object in Nature. They have become low-minded people, dedicating their lives to meaningless pursuits. What needs to be done today is to foster people who are determined to stand and even suffer to realise the holy goals of peace and prosperity for the entire world.

-Divine Discourse, Jan 22, 1982.

True education is that which develops in you love for your fellow-beings and motivates you to serve the community.-BABA.

HE IS MY SWAMI – Conversation with Mrs. Padma Kasturi, daughter of Sri N Kasturi (Radio Sai H2H Archives 2007)

This is the transcript of the conversation between Mrs. Padma Kasturi, daughter of Sri N Kasturi, and Ms. Rajeshwari Patel, a f...ormer student and faculty member in the Anantapur campus of Sathya Sai University aired on Radio Sai earlier. Article and audio download links given below.

Who has not heard of Prof. Kasturi – the famous translator of Bhagavan’s Discourses and biographer of the Divine life-story of Bhagavan Shri Sathya Sai Baba? Professor Kasturi’s style was inimitable and un-matched. He brought to life for millions of Bhagavan’s devotees’ the thrilling, exhilarating accounts of those early golden years.

One feels as if one is present on the occasion when one reads Swami’s biography Sathyam, Shivam, Sundaram. He had a special Kasturi-touch – literally. It would be impossible however to bring Prof. Kasturi to the studio of Radio Sai! But we have a very special person with us today; one who has inherited his precious legacy – maybe not like that of the inheritors of the Tata’s, Birla’s (Popular business families of India) and such; but something richer and more enduring - Divine Grace and proximity.

Smt. Padma - fondly referred to by Bhagavan as Padmamma - is the privileged daughter of Professor Kasturi. Less well-known by people generally, she has made her quiet presence felt in the Prasanthi Nilayam ashram for several years now.

ENTHRALLING ENCOUNTERS WITH ETERNITY - CONVERSATIONS WITH MR. RAJA REDDY (H2H ARTICLE ARCHIVES)

Among the few fortunate devotees, who came to Swami in the early years of His avatharhood, Mr Raja Reddy is exceptional. He was one of the most... privileged who came to Bhagavan as a teenager and continued to stay in the Divine Presence enjoying His blissful divine proximity for nearly three decades. A sincere spiritual aspirant right from his childhood, the story of His encounters with ‘The Eternal’ is most fascinating. We had an enthusiastic Sai worker go over to his home in Mumbai to interview him and below are the transcripts of that conversation.

How can we tame the mind? Bhagawan gently and lovingly puns on the words and explains a great truth in a memorable manner.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Friday, June 27, 2014

What manifests externally is ...called ‘Manas’ (Mind). That which is internal is ‘Nama’ (The Name of the Lord). Repeating the Name of the Lord, you can gain control over your mind and attain the state where there is no Mind (Amanaska). As long as you are under the influence of your mind, you will tread the worldly path and get lost. You can clearly hear the voice of the Lord, only when you attain the “No Mind” State. To attain that state, you must listen to the inner voice, the voice of the Lord within you. To hear Him, you must practice Devotion and Surrender. The easiest way to understand and experience God is to Love Him. You can easily grow in love for God, by worshipping Him in a specific form. A true devotee does all duties with total surrender only to please God, and dedicates every action to please Him.

- My Dear Students, Vol 3,Ch 7, July 9, 1989.

Keep the name of the Lord always radiant on your tongue and mind, it will keep the antics of the mind under control.-BABA.

How to ensure a healthy, youthful and energetic life? Bhagawan gently reminds us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Thursday, June 26, 2014

Health is the greatest blessing. Without it, you cannot do ev...en the smallest work. Health is indispensable for your progress in material, moral, political, economic, artistic and spiritual fields. Food habits are of primary importance if health must be secured and maintained. 'No restraint, no success' is the axiom. Among the 8.4 million species of living beings, all except humans live on food as provided by Mother Nature. Human beings alone strive to make such food more palatable, more attractive to the senses of sight, touch and smell by boiling, frying, freezing and mixing, grinding and soaking. Natural Food is really beneficial. Catering to the cravings of the tongue, if you intake heavy food thrice or more a day, you will fall ill and lose the sprightliness of youth. Restraints, controls and limits must be applied to the tongue. Regular and limited intake alone will enable you to discharge your duties.

-Divine Discourse, 20 Nov 1982.

Health does not depend on medicine. Good words, good manners, good sight and good thoughts – these are essential. - BABA.

TO MY GURU, WITH LOVE...

- A Radio Sai special initiative for Guru Poornima 2014

In life there are numerous people who truly deserve our gratitude. For, many have been the hands that have joined in moulding our present. The Indian scriptur...es remind us, 'Matru Devo Bhava, Pitru Devo Bhava, Acharya Devo Bhava' - One owes respect to one's mother, father and teacher in the order mentioned; and above all God of course, for it says give respect by treating them like God.

Most of us individuals have ample opportunities to show gratitude to our parents. We live our entire life with them and have scope for filling their lives with joy for all they have done for us. But what about our teachers? We meet many of them through the journey of life. Some touch our lives in ways we cannot describe or even comprehend. Some do it so silently that years pass before we realise they did, like the fragrance of a rose garden that often comes to us only after we have walked past it.

Bhagawan would often insist we be grateful to God for all that He has given us. But why, one wonders! Doesn't God do whatever He does selflessly, then why does He seek our gratitude?

The answer is simple - gratitude is a noble virtue to possess, and Bhagawan wishes we all be virtuous enough to be grateful. Most of the inspiring teachers we encounter in life too neither had the time nor desire for our gratitude, but each one of you will agree that saying that thanks, even if it is in the silence of our hearts, makes us feel so warm and happy.

So, why not we express our love to those teachers on this occasion of Guru Poornima? You do it the way it gives you joy - poem, audio message, a picture or just a few heartfelt words - we will share it with the rest of the world.

Who knows, after all your teacher might see your message and with a twinkle in his or her eye, and remember you with fondness. It could be anybody - your Bal Vikas guru, your swimming instructor, your kindergarten teacher or even someone you look up to as a teacher - but someone who has touched your life in a way that is very special and taught you an indelible lesson of life. Make your Guru Poornima special, by remembering that one special teacher.

1. You can start sending in your entries right away to h2h@radiosai.org. Let the subject of the email be "To My Guru With Love".

2. We will accept entries till the Guru Poornima Day, 12 July 2014.

3. Don't forget to send us your complete name, your place and a picture of yours along with your message.

Thank you and Loving Sai Ram,
Team Radio Sai

Everyone desires to be happy. What is the recipe for happiness? Bhagawan lovingly explains today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Understand the Nature of the Divine Soul (Atma), wh...ich gives sustenance to all the senses. The five senses originate from Ether, which emerges from the Atma. Hence, if you understand the Atma, it is highly likely that your senses will be under your control. Then you will always be happy. Know that happiness is beyond comfort and sorrow. Comfort and sorrow are just the manifestations of the human mind. The state which is beyond this pleasure and grief is truly happiness. You can realize this state when you listen to the voice within you. God is present within you and He truly speaks to you from within. To experience that inner voice, you must silence your mind. You must control the activity of the external senses. When the inner and outer organs are completely controlled, you will clearly hear the Lord, speaking to you, from within.

- My Dear Students, Vol 3,Ch 7, July 9, 1989.

When the heart is filled with good thoughts and feelings, all that comes out of the senses - your speech, your vision, your action - will all be pure.-BABA

WITH THE LORD IN THE MOUNTAINS - KODAI REMINISCENCES BY PROF. G. VENKATARAMAN (H2H ARCHIVES)

We present an account by Prof. G. Venkataraman on his Kodai reminiscences, based mainly on his trip with Swami to Kodai in the year 2006 and also... earlier in 2003.

"Sai Ram! I am sure you must have heard of Kodaikanal, a popular hill station in South India, especially because Swami often goes there during summer, taking a few select students with Him. I have been blessed by Swami to accompany Him twice in His Kodai trips, once in 2003 and 2006. Apart from this first hand experience, I have also talked to many students, teachers and other elders about their own Kodai experiences. What is true love? What is the barometer for one who possesses true love? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Tuesday, June 24, 2014

If you are established in peace, you will find that Love arises from it. Peace and love are intimately related. Many pretend as if they love all. Their actions represent how dramatic one can get in the field of love. This is not true love. True love finds fulfilment only when it is with peace. Once you develop true love, Non-violence will naturally manifest from within and you will not hurt or harm anyone. Love is present everywhere, in every being in this world. Love is beyond a specific name, form or action. Love is God, Live in Love. This is taught to you by Educare. The process of education inculcates desire, hatred, jealousy, lust, greed and avarice, which are worldly traits or behavioural tendencies. Educare on the other hand, consists of adherence to Truth, Non-Violence, Love, Peace and Righteousness - qualities that are present within you.

- My Dear Students, Vol 2,Ch 13, June 7, 2007.

Why do we need spirituality in life? Bhagawan explains in fair detail today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Monday, June 23, 2014

Mind is present inside the body amidst the five sheaths (Pancha Koshas). Th...e five sheaths are gross body sheath (Annamaya Kosha), Pranamaya Kosha (pertaining to the life force), Manomaya Kosha (mind sheath), Vijnanamaya Kosha (intellect sheath), and Anandamaya Kosha (Bliss sheath). Above the mind sheath is Prana (life force) and below it is discrimination power. Both of these are related to Fire. Mind is related to Water. The Moon is the presiding deity for the Mind. Hence coolness is its nature. Because of the presence of life force above and discrimination power below, the Mind melts and gets transformed into water. Water’s nature is to flow towards a lower level. It does not have the nature of flowing upwards. Hence the mind always wanders around the sensory and worldly pleasures. It cannot voyage towards the pure and higher stages. To divert the mind towards higher realms, spirituality is of utmost necessity.

- My Dear Students, Vol 3,Ch 7, July 9, 1989.

When the mind is pure, unselfish and unwavering, Divine appears in all His purity and fullness.-BABA

Dear brothers and sisters,

In today's brand new episode of Fleeting Moments, Lasting Memories, Former Sai student Leena Bardoloi Baruah walks down memory lane to share her fondest memories of life as Bhagawan's student. We a...re delighted to present here Part 1 and Part 2 of this wonderful conversation with Leena who spent 7 years from 1982-89 at the Anantapur campus of SSSIHL.

Leena Bardoloi joined Swami's Anantapur College in 1982 in the intermediate program and went to pursue her undergraduate at the same campus of the SSSIHL, earning herself a BA degree in 1987. In 1989, she completed her MA in English.

Leena comes from the well-known Bardoloi family of Assam in North East India. Both of Leena's siblings have studied at the Sri Sathya Sai University and one of them continues to serve the Sai mission as a teacher at Bhagawan's school here in Prasanthi Nilayam. It was Leena's Uncle, Sri Biren Bardoloi who originally initiated the Sai Mission in Rangia and surrounding areas and later taught at the SSSIHL, for nearly 25 years from 1980 to 2004. Professionally, Leena Bardoloi Baruah is an Associate Professor at Rangia College of Assam a place near Guwahati and a town which has a vibrant Sai movement.

She had spent some beautiful moments with Radio Sai’s Karuna Munshi when she came to our studio shared her unforgettable memories with her beloved Bhagawan. Here are the links to enjoy this insightful conversation in two parts.

What is Truth? What follows when we live in Truth? Bhagawan lovingly elucidates to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Sunday, June 22, 2014

Truth is not merely describing what you have seen, expressing as is what you have heard or sharing honestly what you have experienced. Truth is beyond all this. It is a deep inner feeling and it must come from within. Truth must originate from your heart. Truth is permanent; it does not change with the passage of time. When you rely on Truth (Satya), Righteousness (Dharma) arises out of it. It is Truth that teaches how one should conduct oneself and perform one’s duties. Righteousness is a reflection of Truth. You will experience peace when Sathya and Dharma co-exist. This is indeed peace, Shanti. It is foolishness to think that Peace exists elsewhere and is separate from you. If you separate truth and righteousness, you will find only pieces, on the other hand if you blend them you will experience Peace always.

- My Dear Students, Vol 2,Ch 13, June 7, 2007.

How should we lead our lives so as to make optimum use of this rare blessing? Bhagawan gently reminds us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Saturday, June 21, 2014

Lord Krishna said, “Don’t conduct your...self like a beast, not even like a human being. Know that you are the spark of the Divine. You are ancient, eternal and essentially Divine. Mamaivamsho Jeeva Loke Jeeva Bhoota Sanatanaha.” Being the sparks of Divine, you must have the sacred qualities of Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Nonviolence. Instead of behaving in accordance with these noble virtues, people submit themselves to evil qualities like lust, greed, anger, jealousy, hatred and avarice which does not befit a human being. These changes are due to one’s food habits and behavior. The food you take and the water you drink must be pure, and timely. Lead a well regulated human life and realise the Divine within you.

- My Dear Students, Vol 2,Ch 13, June 7, 2007.

Man is a spark of the Divine; you must manifest this Divinity in every act of yours. - BABA.

Why should we play our role with faith and gratitude to the Divine? What will be the result? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Friday, June 20, 2014

Devotion these days... appears more as a way of spending one's time rather than as the royal road to the eternal mansion of the Divine. You need not make much effort to grow grass. But to raise a useful crop you have to labour hard. Likewise, it is no great achievement to experience the trivial and transient pleasures of mundane existence; it is like growing grass. You must strive to cultivate the nectarous and lasting bliss of divine Love. Those who aspire for such love are not easy to find. All appear as devotees. But the one who has experienced the Divine Principle will not go after sensuous pleasures.

- My Dear Students, Vol 3,Ch 6, June 27, 1989.

Service is the blossom of Love, a flower that fills the mind with rapture. Harmlessness is the fragrance of that flower. -BABA.

'Sathya Sai with Students' Blog Update - Week 92

Sai Ram,

Sathya Sai with Students Blog Team presents articles for Week 92:

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: Why should I study? This is a common question which all students ask when they are bogged down by loads of study material and assignments. In a Discourse to His students on June 2, 1999 at Trayee Brindavan, Swami beautifully answered this question: "Why Should Students Study?"

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/why-should-students-study.html

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Dr. K. Anil Kumar writes on the theme: "I have only given you a seat in the Institute...".

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/i-have-only-given-you-seat-in-institute.html

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: It is that time of the year when Swami would lovingly interact with the new students who have just joined the Institute at the start of the new academic year. We reminisce one such conversation between Swami and students on June 19, 2002.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/swami-and-students-introductory.html

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: Personality and its development is one of the core areas for managers to focus on - for themselves as well as their under-trainee juniors. In a discourse to His students Swami highlighted the three major factors influencing individual personality. We present the last part of this multi-part series.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/factors-influencing-human-personality_19.html

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: Swami has revealed His omnipresence on many occasions. We record one such incident that happened in June 1959 when He saved a devotee from fire in Madras while He was sitting with devotees at Prasanthi Nilayam.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/sri-sathya-sai-protecting-devotee-from.html

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: This week we have a Telugu song (with translation and audio) sung by the famous Carnatic singer - Smt. Chitra, also sung by Swami's students on many occasions - 'Madhuram Nee Ganam... Sweet is Your Song'.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/madhuram-nee-gaanam-sweet-is-your-song.html

How should our outlook be towards our parents and friends? Bhagawan gently reminds us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Thursday, June 19, 2014

Never forsake your parents till your last breath. Even if they didn’t provide for all you asked and wished, you must love them. Your mother has undergone many hardships for your sake. She nourished you in many ways. Forgetting or ignoring your mother is the worst of sins. Father has worked hard t...o take care of you and raise you. Never make your parents feel distant from you. Love and respect them at all times. You must satisfy the needs of your parents, using the education they gave you. Their satisfaction will give you infinite joy. Do not believe your friends to be your everything – as long as you have money in your pocket, they are your friends. When you are penniless, most of them will bid goodbye.

THE GIFT OF DARSHAN

More Photos on https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.672893649466443.1073742087.181243118631501&type=1

The experience that is freely available to all and the one everyone invariably looks forward to is Darshan. To be in the Divine presence and to catch a glimpse of Swami as He gently glides along is the longing of all de...votees. Just for this, they come from all over the world. How they crane their necks to see Him as He comes out! That is hunger for the Divine; that is the deep yearning for the Divine. If that thirst is there, then He makes sure that it is satisfied….whatever the place and circumstances. Our joy is His joy.

Let us now find out what Swami Himself has to say about Darshan on various occasions:

Later it may be difficult to approach Me and ask Me. For, people are coming towards Me in full, unending streams, and you may have to have My Darshan from miles away!

There are those who may never see Me in the concrete form. They have, all the same, reached Me through a friend, a book, or a photograph. To each of these, if they yearn deeply, I give My Darshan inwardly. These too I love as deeply, for they have begun to see themselves as being beyond their body, as Divine Souls. This is the advancement towards Self-Realisation.

After My Darshan, always find a quiet corner, where you may enter into the stillness and receive the completion of My Blessings. As I pass you, My Energy goes from Me into you. If, immediately after Darshan, you start talking, the precious Energy gifted to you gets dissipated and returns to Me unused. Be assured that whatever My eyes see, becomes vitalised and transmuted. You are being changed day by day - never underestimate what is being accomplished by the act of My Darshan.

My walking amongst you is a gift yearned for by the gods of the Highest Heavens; but here you are receiving this Grace without much effort. Be grateful for what you are getting. The Blessings you receive would express themselves in due course, when the time comes. But also remember: To whom much is given, from him much also would be demanded!

Well, it is time we realize how lucky we are to be able to see God walking on earth !

Are we really serious about the purpose of our lives? If we are, what is the least we must do? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Wednesday, June 18, 2014

There is no ha...rm in pursuing one's worldly duties while having Self-realisation as the goal of life. Life is not meant for just living, it is a means to realize one’s true nature. Treating life as a righteous journey, you should devote at least a few minutes every day to thoughts on the true aims of life. Many hours in a day are wasted on selfish pursuits, but not even a few minutes are devoted to contemplation of God. Alas! What misfortune is this! In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna called upon Arjuna to regard himself as an instrument of the Divine. All of you are instruments of the Divine. Discharge your duties leaving the result to God. Your role is to do your duty sincerely. Victory and defeat are in God’s hands. Do not even feel that you are the doer. You must think the Lord is giving me this opportunity and making me play this role in life.

- My Dear Students, Vol 3,Ch 6, June 27, 1989.

Consider all your acts as worship. Duty is God, Work is Worship. Whatever happens accept it gladly as His handiwork, a sign of His compassion. – BABA.

Swami and Muddenahalli

November 14, 2013 at 6:21pm

Sri Narasimhamurthy, Warden of Muddenhalli campus of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, was recently given detailed instructions by Bhagavan Baba in a series of dreams.

On previous occasions, Swami has said that a dream is not a dream, but in fact Darshan.

I would like to share with you some of the instructions Swami gave me in my dream last Sunday.

Swami appeared in my dream in Brahmi Muhoortam last Sunday, July, 10, 2011. He gave me many instructions; some of them are very personal. I will share with you the ones that are relevant not only to you but to all the devotees around the world. Bhagavan had said on an earlier occasion- ‘ I have three forms, one is gross form which confines to the Mandir I physically reside in, second is subtle form in which I pervade the entire ashram area I reside in (those days HE meant the Prashanthi Nilayam area) and the third is causal form by which I pervade the entire creation.
Bhagavan appeared in His subtle form in my dream and this is what He told me:- “Get the the hill-top building ready for my stay before I arrive on this GuruPurnima day (15th July, 2011).
On GuruPurnima day I will enter there and stay there permanently. I will go from here to different places and come back. But I will stay here permanently”.

Swami asked for the name that we had decided for the hill-top building.

When I said Prashanthi Towers, he was not happy with it.

Swami: “Now onwards this mansion shall be called SATHYA SAI ANANDAM”. In Mumbai Mandir is SATHYAM in Hyderabad it is SHIVAM in Chennai it is SUNDARAM and now in Muddenahalli it is ANANDAM.

When I told about this dream to my friend and colleague Sri A R Manjunath, he said what a wonderful title Swami has given for the Biography you intended to write. I have accepted that suggestion. After writing the 8th volume of Sathyam Shivam Sundaram I am going to write a comprehensive Biography of Swami covering His life from birth to the end of His physical sojourn.
That book which is in the womb of time will be called ‘Sathyam Shivam Sundaram Anandam’.

Coming back to the dream,

Swami: “You were telling me to come here and stay”

In fact it was not only my feeling it was the aspiration of all the staff , teachers and students here because He had performed the BhoomiPuja of this mansion and had told the L&T chairman that this building is for His stay. This building is exactly like Yajur Mandir except for few partition walls missing in ground floor of this building.

Swami: ‘You were praying for me to come and stay here, I came and saw nothing was ready in my room, no water in the tap, not a single robe is kept for me’.

NM: I said forgive me Swami I will arrange for them.

Swami: ‘I also don’t like the color of the building. You know my choice of three colors. Now don’t try painting entire building, it wont be possible. But paint the room meant for my stay in that combination of Pink, blue and ivory before Gurupoornima and shift all the arrangements you have made in PremDeep for my stay to SathyaSai Anandam. Offer food everyday.” Then He also continued to say ‘ the Cot in PremDeep is too high, reduce the height before shifting it here.’

He told to keep a statue of Swami in the ground floor hall and gave specifications that it should be like the one in Chaitanya Jyothi – standing on a Lotus with hand raised in Abhaya Hastam, made out of Marble. He told to keep an idol of Ganesha also here, more importantly, Swami revealed how much He loves Revered Madiyala Narayana Bhat the founder of Alike Muddenahalli institutions. He told to keep a bust of Rev Anna that is Narayana Bhat at the entrance of this building.

Swami: ‘ also keep here one of the Cars I used “.

Then He said ‘lot of people have sacrificed their everything for the growth of this institution, their pictures also should be displayed here.
Swami in fact used the word Thyaga bhoomi.
“Have grand programme in Sathya Sai Anandam on GuruPoornima day, have Sathya Sai pooja and Bhajans and distribute clothes to all the students including day scholars, and serve food for everyone present.

NM: Being a born pauper and continuing to be so, I was wondering how to get clothes for all students spending lakhs of Rupees.

Swami responded to my thoughts and said “don’t worry about it, I am going to arrange clothes for all the students.” One item of food Swami chose for all the students. It is called tumbler idly translated into English. I was worried about this tumbler idly also. He said “ don’t worry about it, Balaram Nichani ( who used to drive Swami’s Car while travelling to and for from Brindavan-Parthi sometimes to Kodaikenal ) will get it”.

NM: Nichani has already brought it; all of you are going to get it during lunch.

Swami then said ” Nenu akkadiki vastaanu, akkada kanabadutaanu.” ( I will come there and also I will be seen there).

NM:To whom He will be visible and to whom not is left to His sweet will. There was a time when He granted wholesale Darshan whether anyone deserved or not. That opportunity came to a close on 24th April 2011. Those of us who deserve His Darshan will get it- can see Him physically also when He wills. Because, in my association with Him for past 46 or so years, none of His words have gone untrue.
I am very very sure we will see Him one day or the other.

I had a doubt, because I had not missed my visit to Puttaparthi on Gurupoornima day for last 46 years. So I asked Swami whether I should be here or go to Puttaparthi.

Swami: “ neeku buddhi ledu, nenu ikkadaki vastanu ante neevu akkada emi chestavu?” –(You don’t have brains, what will you do there when I am coming here,) He has told me many times before also that I don’t have brains, which is an eternal truth?) Swami spoke to me entire conversation in chaste Telugu as He used to do about 7 to 8 years before.
For the entire length He was standing, there was no wheel chair. He told me “in Prashanthi Nilayam there are people to carry on the programme, you don’t worry about it, you be here”.

Then He told me to start writing the second volume of Sathya Sai Divya Kripaashraya book on Gurupoornima day. I was actually planning to write the book Sathya Sai Divya Sannidhi the second volume of Sathya Sai Divya Kripaashraya after completing the comprehensive Biography of Swami. That will contain details of my life after Swami personally took me from here to Prashanthi nilayam.

Coming back to what He said regarding this building,

Swami said, ‘arrange a museum depicting the growth of Muddenahalli and Alike Institutions and My visits to these to places. Keep the museum open to public on every Thursday , on other days the inmates of the campus teachers and students can use the hall for meditation”. Then He made a stunning revelation-“This place will be a great pilgrimage center and thousands will visit this place. I will grant the Anandam of Sathya Sai to all those who visit this Sathya Sai Anandam mansion.”

Then He told something which will delight all the karyakarthas here and is relevant to all the devotees and those serving in Swami’s institutions.
He told about Sri Narayana Bhat. “ Narayana Bhat was greatly interested in molding hundreds of youths for Sathya Sai Mission. I am preparing a thousand Narasimha Murthis and you will see all of them during your life time, you will serve Swami for twenty more years”. (He referred to Narasimha Murthi only as an example , not that I am anything great).

He then told me “choose ten boys to translate the literary works of Narayana Bhat into English and Hindi so that people all over the world shall read them. Tell Alike people also about the function”.

Then he pointed out that in the college building; the photograph kept in the room meant for Him is not good. It was a fact also, we had kept nice photos everywhere else except there and maybe we thought, that is enough since He Himself is going to be there.

This is just a brief note, and I was in a dilemma whether I should share this dream with others as I felt people may think suddenly this NarasimhaMurthi has gone mad. Then there was the climax of the whole episode.

One young friend of mine walked into my room at eleven o clock the next day and said ‘Swami has prompted me to give a pair of clothes to all the students’. When that happened I had no doubt. I felt convinced that the dream is not merely to me but for entire world and decided to share it with all. In the dream Swami said, “I am going to select two big boys for doing service in the building and to sleep here.”

That day He didn’t tell me the names. On the second day, that night once again He appeared; I thanked Him for arranging the clothes, which already had come.
He Said “don’t you have faith in my words”. Then I told Swami two boys… He told me the names. I was curious to see how many are there by that name.
There was only one by that name. He also told in clear terms “ Pedda Pillalu, Musiclo unnaru.” Big boys both are in music.

What is the true objective of education? Bhagawan explains by beautifully playing with the abbreviation, Ph.D.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Wherefrom does humanness come? It comes... from your heart. Here, the heart referred to is not the physical heart but the spiritual heart which is free from all blemishes. Like fragrant air, your purity should spread everywhere. You should share with others the pure thoughts and the pure feelings that emanate from you. Whatever you do, it should be helpful to others. Help Ever, Hurt Never - If you imbibe these two qualities, everything will become good for you. Today educated people are proud of their Ph. D. degrees. What does the true Ph.D. mean? The letter ‘P’ stands for Person, ‘h’ for Help and ‘D’ for Divinity. Hence, one with Ph.D. degree is the person who helps others and attains Divinity. On the contrary, if one does not help others, then the letter ‘p’ will denote that he is a papi (sinner). You will attain everything if you protect your humanness.

What is the best means of preserving the profound message expounded by our scriptures? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Monday, June 16, 2014

Today people tend to go by the letter of the scriptures. The words of the scriptures should be interpreted and understood in the context of the prevailing time and circumstances. Then t...heir real meaning will be clear. Also no one adheres to what one says or preaches. More than listening to spiritual discourses, one must try to practise at least a part of what one learns. Vedanta is being expounded at many places, not to speak of the discourses on the Gita. But how many understand the real spirit of the Gita and act up to its message? It is because of this dichotomy between preaching and practice that spiritual teachings are being treated with little regard. Only when the feelings emanating from the heart, the words coming out of the mouth and the actions one performs are all in perfect harmony will one's life be based on truth.

How should educated and cultured people lead their lives? Bhagawan gently reminds us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Sunday, June 15, 2014

There are many educated youth with multiple degrees. How do they put them to use? To earn money! Money does matter a lot in the present times. You need money even to go to the temple, to drink a cup of coffee or a bottle of water. However you must develop more humanness rather than just running af...ter money. We are responsible for all problems around us. If you shape yourself into a good person and practice what you have learnt, the world would be a different place. Do not lead your lives with arrogance, pride and other wicked qualities. Instead, live your life with a sense of humility and obedience. You become pure, only when you get rid of your wicked qualities. To remove the pollution around you, you must have a pure mind. A pure mind is one that is without any doubts, selfless and steady. Only a pure mind can uphold the honour of a Nation.

When we make a resolve in the spiritual path, what should be our attitude towards it? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us through a lighthearted example.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Saturday, June 14, 2014

People who take a pledge to observe certain disciplines in all times, fail to do so when the circumstances are not congenial. One day all the deers in the forest held a conference. They discussed thus: “Do dogs possess the abilities we ha...ve?” One of them bravely said, “If we kick a dog appropriately, it can be disembowelled; we have that power!” Another deer added, “Dogs cannot run at speeds we can. We can even leap in the air.” The third said, “Exactly! Dogs can’t run as fast as us and we are stronger and more capable. From now on, we should not be afraid of dogs. We must face them with all our strength and fight back”. Having thus decided, they all clapped merrily. Hearing this noise, a dog in a distance howled loudly. No sooner did the deers hear the sound, all of them, without any exception, fled the place. The behaviour of those who preach Vedanta these days is very much on a par with these deers.

Radio Sai added 16 new photos to the album Special Giri Pradakshina on Earuvaka Pournima.

Every Pournima day (full moon day) is celebrated by many devotees in Puttaparthi as an occasion to perform the Giri Pradakshina - circumlocution of the entire valley of Prasanthi Nilayam. People gather in large numbers in the evening in front of the Ganesh Gate, and go in a procession singing bhajans, accompanying a vehicle that carries a decorated altar of Bhagawan. The procession goes all the way around the valley, through numerous villages and concludes with Mangala Arathi at 10 in the night. Though not an official event of the Ashram, this is an indigenous expression of the adoration of the people of Parthi. Many devotees join the group if present during a pournima.

The latest Pournima, 12 June 2014 happened to be a special full moon day, known locally as Earuvaka Pournima. It is a day on which all farmers join together in prayers, to invoke Divine blessings before starting work in their fields for the year. So on this pournima about 3500 people participated with many villagers joining the bhajans along with about 60 decorated bullock-carts. We are glad to share with you some pictures of this event.

What is the relationship between Truth, Righteousness and Peace? How can being peaceful help us attain God? Bhagawan explains the harmony amongst these values today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Friday, June 13, 2014

Cultivate the five values of Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Nonviolence (Sathya, Dharma, Shanti, Prema and Ahimsa). When you have Sathya and Dharma, you will automatically get peace (Shanti). When you are peaceful, yo...u will not hurt or hate anybody (Ahimsa). This peaceful attitude blossoms into love and brings about equality in every being. When such a loving environment prevails, there will be no quarrels in the world. Therefore, truth and righteousness are essential to attain and grow in love. In any situation, come what may, never take the path of untruth. If you speak untruth, there is no love. Speak the truth at all times, attain love and feel it everywhere around you. This is the essence of the scriptures, taught by many sages and saints in various methods. God is Love.

What is God’s real nature? Why is it important to understand it and love God with all our heart? Bhagawan elucidates today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Thursday, June 12, 2014

God is beyond all qualitie...s. He is blemishless, steady and selfless (Nirmalam, Nischalam and Niswartham). He is beyond time and space. Don’t try to confine God to just one form. Install the principle that God is the Divine Soul (Atma) present within you and contemplate on Him. In every step, everything you see, God is present. God is the current that makes fans work; God is the mike that absorbs the sound, and the speakers that help others listen. If you put off the main switch, all the lights will go out. When you forget Divinity, you forget everything. Love God deeply, from within. Love God and you will be able to conquer the demons of bad qualities and also develop the society. Only a person with character can bring development in society. Only the one with love for God can lead a life of morality. Morality is truly a life principle. Without morality there is no community.

- My Dear Students, Vol 2, Ch 12, June 4, 2009.

Money comes and goes, morality comes and grows. - Baba

'Sathya Sai with Students' Blog Update - Week 91: Summer Course Special

Sai Ram,

As the Summer Course on Indian Culture and Spirituality will be organised this weekend at Prasanthi Nilayam for the students and staff of the Sri Sathya Sai Educational Institutions, the articles of this week are focussed on this theme.

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: While addressing one of the first Summer Courses on Indian Culture and Spirituality, Swami had said that 'The youth of today have no idea of the glory of Bharat and its rich heritage, its culture and its scriptures. No one has taken care to make them aware of this treasure house of wisdom. Hence, I am taking upon Myself the responsibility of telling them the glory of Bharat.' Thus began the saga of Summer Courses on Indian Culture and Spirituality - a total of 15 courses organised in His physical presence between 1972 and 2002. In this context of the glory of our scriptures and epics, Swami tells us: "Why should we study the sacred Indian texts?"

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/why-should-we-study-sacred-indian-texts.html

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Brother Sai Chittaranjan writes on the theme: "He is My Son, I will take care of him...".

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/he-is-my-son-i-will-take-care-of-him-by.html

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: In the years gone by, this is the time of the year when students and staff of Swami's educational institutions would be back in Prasanthi Nilayam after the most fulfilling Summer Course on Indian Culture and Spirituality held at Brindavan during the latter half of the summer vacations. On one such occasion, on June 11, 2002, Swami, the Revered Founder Chancellor of the Institute conducted a surprise 'viva' for the students on the topics studied during the Summer Course of 2002 in the Prasanthi Nilayam Mandir portico... Read on for a very fascinating conversation...

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/a-viva-conducted-by-revered-founder.html

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: Personality and its development is one of the core areas for managers to focus on - for themselves as well as their under-trainee juniors. In a discourse to His students Swami highlighted the three major factors influencing individual personality. We present the second part of this multi-part series.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/factors-influencing-human-personality_12.html

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: The Summer Courses of yore conducted by Swami for students from all over India were a gala occasion with the most eminent scholars from across the country gathering in Brindavan to give most erudite speeches to inspire students and staff on diverse topics of importance. We reminisce the first three summer courses held in Swami's physical presence in the years 1972 to 1974.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/summer-courses-on-indian-culture-and.html

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: The Summer Course is a time to reflect on the unity of creation, the unity of religions, the unity of all mankind. This week we have a Hindi song (with translation and audio) sung by Swami's students on many occasions on this very theme of unity. 'Aao Sab Milkar Gaayen... Let's sing together the song of unity'.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/aao-sab-milkar-gaayen-lets-sing.html

Isn't this a question that all of us get sometime or the other. Goal setting and goal getting always teach us to measure our progress... and it is natural that we seek to see where we stand in our spiritual journey. What has beloved Swami said about this?

That will be the topic of special discussion to be continued on the Thursday LIVE, Afternoon Satsangh, tomorrow on the Asia stream of www.radiosai.org at 12:30pm IST.

We often seek solitude and silence for meditating. But how should we really meditate or what should we strive for? Bhagawan explains with a little example today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Wednesday, June 11, 2014

An individual, who had a large family, sat down for meditation in his home. As one child or another was disturbing him, he locked himself in a room. But even now he was disturbed by frequent knocks on the door by someone or oth...er. So he betook himself to a forest and began meditating under a tree. But here he was troubled by the droppings from the birds on the tree. Disgusted with the disturbances at home and in the forest he felt that the best thing was to end his existence. Unfortunately, he was unable to realise that God was present in everything and cultivate forbearance. He indeed exemplifies the devotee in whom Rajo guna is predominant. To be able to concentrate wherever one may be is the mark of the devotee with satwic quality. Such a devotee will be able to practise concentration whether in the midst of a crowd or alone. Any disturbance will be looked upon as coming from God and be accepted.

When we worship God, when we pray, what should be our approach? Bhagawan gently and lovingly elucidates to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Tuesday, June 10, 2014

You should not pursue spirituality... with any end result in mind. One who works for wages is a worker and not an owner. The daily wage earner will not have any ownership or interest towards completing the tasks. He or she will worry about being present till the schedule, collect their wages and leave. Thus, he or she thinks that they are separate from the organisation. In your home, the wife or the children do their respective duties, but do not demand any wages. The wife does not ask any sort of income for the activities she does. She discharges her responsibility with purity and perfection, and takes care of everything at home. One who prays, just for a result is like that daily wage earner. One who enjoys the feeling that God is his own, and that God is within them, is like the owner. Rudra Ekaadhashini Homam 2014

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Sai Family,

Om Sairam!

With the Divine Grace and Blessings of our dear Lord Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, and as an expression of our love and gratitude on the auspicious occasion of Gurupoornima, the sacred Rudra Ekaadashini Homam is being performed at the Balaji Temple in Birmingham on Saturday 12th July 2014.

Venue: Shree Venkateshwara Balaji Temple UK, Dudley Road East, Tividale, West Midlands, B69 3DU
Date: Saturday 12th July 2014
Time: 8:30am to 4:00pm

Bhagawan Baba, during the momentous inauguration of the Athi Rudra Maha Yagna being performed in His Divine Presence in Prasanthi Nilayam in 2006, declared that the Yagna was for the welfare of humanity (Loka Kalyana).

"This Yagna is being conducted for the welfare of the world. There is a very important aspect of this Yagna. The Athi Rudra Maha Yagna protects and fosters the divine nature in the human beings, while rejecting and diminishing the demonic qualities. Thus, it works for the welfare of humanity."

In concordance with this Divine Injunction, the prayers offered during this Rudra Ekaadashini Homam too would be for 'Universal Love and Peace'.

On behalf of the Planning Team, it is my privilege to invite and welcome all fellow devotees to join in the prayers and participate in the celebrations on the day. Last year, when a similar Homam was conducted at the Temple by our fellow devotees, a great spiritual energy was experienced by everyone present. Even the priests and other officials of the Balaji Temple were very impressed with the devotion, discipline and dedication of all the assembled Sai devotees during the Homam.

Let us all make use of this sacred and unique opportunity bestowed on us by Grace and Love of our dear Bhagawan, and participate enthusiastically in the Homam.

Those attending, kindly register at

http://www.srisathyasai.org.uk/national-programmes/rudrahomam2014/registration.php

at the earliest.

Looking forward to welcoming you on the day,

Om Sairam!

With what attitude must we approach people around us? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Monday, June 9, 2014

Wherever you see, whoever you see, there is nothing but Div...inity that is present. Salute all beings, even if you think they are inferior to you. Remember, you are not saluting the individual but to the Divine within them. If you have one thousand pots filled with water, the reflection of the Sun shining above will be the same in all the pots. So too, the reflection of the Divine is present equally in all beings. Just as the reflection of Sun will depend upon what is present within the pot, what you see around you is a reflection, reaction and resound of your own actions. Whatever you do or say comes back to you. You see your own form in the mirror. If you hate others, you hate yourself. There is no use in blaming God for your own actions. God is attributeless, sacred, pure and wise. It is human ignorance to attribute qualities to God.

- My Dear Students, Vol 2, Ch 12, June 4, 2009.

Constant reflection on the glory of God helps to transmute the body, mind and spirit. – BABA

Why is contentment a supreme virtue? How can we develop contentment? Bhagawan explains to us with a memorable example today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Sunday, June 8, 2014

Accept everything as God’s gift (Prasadam). Always feel that whatever you have is not yours, and it has come from God. Accept pain too as God’s gift and be content with that. Learn to be happy that God has given you two square sufficient meals. If you compare yourself... with a wealthy person, who has four rich meals while you are having two, you will feel discontented. On the other hand, think of the poor man who cannot manage even one meal a day. In this manner, develop contentment. You must learn to be satisfied in simple things too. It is only then that Divinity can blossom from humanness. Being contented is a most important human quality and it can be gained through incessant devotion to the Lord. Continue chanting His name and develop your Love for Him, and dedicate your Life unto Him.

- My Dear Students, Vol 3,Ch 5, June 26, 1989.

Which is God’s true form and how can we have the vision of that form? Bhagawan gently reminds us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Saturday, June 7, 2014

Many imagine that God will appear before them in response to their worship (Yagnas). These are illusions, merely imagination. What ultimately manifests before you is the nameless, formless Lord. In reality, God does not have any one specific form. Your mind keeps prompting such imaginat...ion. When you think of God as Krishna, the feelings of Krishna are aroused in you by your mind. As your feelings guide you, you see the manifestation of your favourite Lord everywhere. You must proceed on the path, focusing on the Divine Self. Control the activity of the mind and proceed on the path until the mind vanishes. The Divine Self has no name or form. Install within yourself that nameless, formless Divine. The whole world is the manifestation of the One Divine Soul. In all the beings, whether they are small insects, birds, animals or human beings, the same Lord pervades. Therefore, salute the Lord in every being.

Why should we never be dissatisfied or upset in life? Bhagawan counsels us on how to develop a positive approach towards life.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Friday, June 6, 2014

Never get dejected at any point in time for anything. It is said that there are two losses for the one who is dissatisfied - Asantushto Dvijo Nashtaha. One is they will not have any happiness and second, they will also not be at peace. Why do people feel dissatisfie...d? People get restless or disheartened, if someone is in a higher position or is wearing better clothes or is more educated than them. Don’t look at someone who is better than you. Compare yourself with someone who is in a lower position than you. Then, you will not develop negative qualities. When you compare yourself with someone better than you, ego and jealousy will certainly enter you. If you see the under privileged and the distressed, and have compassion for them and serve them, you will feel satisfied. Strengthen your empathy and develop noble qualities in this manner.

Sai Ram,

'Sathya Sai with Students' blog team presents articles for Week 90.

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: The academic new year has just begun at the Sri Sathya Sai Educational Institutions this week. This is the time when Swami would address the students and share with them His expectations of a Sai student, and how they should make the most of their stay in His institutions. We focus on this theme during this entire month. The first Discourse excerpt in this series is on the theme: "What is a Student's Responsibility?"

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/06/what-is-students-responsibility.html

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Brother Bisweswar Prusty writes on the theme"Sri Sathya Sai: The Eternal Spring of Joy"

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: This is the time of the year when students and staff of Swami's educational institutions would have the wonderful opportunity of interacting with Him in His close physical proximity at Trayee Brindavan. To reminisce those wonderful moments and events, we present a series titled 'Trayee Sessions' for the period April to June 2001. This post records the happenings of May 31, 2001. With this post we conclude the Trayee Sessions series for this summer season.

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: Personality and its development is one of the core areas for managers to focus on - for themselves as well as their under-trainee juniors. In a discourse to His students Swami highlighted the three major factors influencing individual personality. We present this in a multi-part series.

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: It was in this fortnight 49 years ago when Swami had visited and blessed the most holy shrine in the western state of Maharashtra - Pandharpur. We reminisce the momentous visit.

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: It is that part of the year when Swami would return to Prasanthi Nilayam from Brindavan at the start of the new academic year. The staff and students would welcome Bhagavan into Prasanthi Nilayam with the Welcome Song. To reminisce this, we have a series of Welcome Songs for this month. This week we have a Telugu song (with translation and audio) sung by Swami's students on many occasions. 'Prema Ku Roopai Nilachina Sai Ki Swagatam... Welcome to Sai - the Embodiment of Love'

Note: From the beginning of this month, we have added a new feature on the Blog homepage of 'Sathya Sai with Students'. On the top left corner, a new series titled 'Thought for the Day - This Day That Year' has been introduced. Every day, a new quote from Swami's Divine Discourses given on that particular day in an earlier year would be shared. The excerpts have been taken from the Divine Discourses given between the early 1950s to 2010 at various locations across India. These have been compiled through a year-long project by a team of students of the Sai Publications Division from the Sri Sathya Sai Hostel for Senior Students, Prasanthi Nilayam, and led by Brother Chanda Prem Kumar, a student of the MBA programme of the Institute. We hope that devotees would immensely benefit from this addition.

What is true meditation? Is it right to meditate upon a Form? Bhagawan explains and guides us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Thursday, June 5, 2014

Meditation does not mean simply sitting with eyes closed, contemplating on a Form. You may close your eyes, and focus on the form. But if there is some fickleness in the mind while meditating, then it becomes concentration and not contemplation. When the fickle-mindedness fades away, then your concentration becomes steady and turns into contemplation and slowly, you forget both yourself and the Form, and attain Samadhi. Ultimately, there will be no Form – hence it is called Atma. People give it different names. Don’t worry if you are worshipping one Form over another – it is not the end; this is not concentration. Persist and focus on the Form and see that it becomes steady. As you proceed further on the path, your focus becomes fully steady and contemplation blossoms into meditation.

- My Dear Students, Vol 2, Ch 12, June 4, 2009.

Turn your vision inwards in order to realize the Divine reality; meditation and rumination are much needed disciplines. Silence is the nature of the person who is realized. - BABA.

Loving Sairam!

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today’s Tryst with Divinity brings you a brand New Conversations with former Vice Chancellor of the Sri Sathya Sai University. We are delighted to present here Part 1 and Part 2 of this wonderful interview with Professor Dr. Vishwanath Pandit, who is an internationally respected economist who is considered the pioneer of ‘Macroeconomics Policy Modeling in... India’.

He received his Ph.D. from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA, under the Nobel Laureate Dr. Lawrence Klein. Before joining the Sai University, Dr. Pandit was Head of the Economics Department and Director, Centre for Development Economics at the prestigious Delhi School of Economics, New Delhi. He has also been an advisor to the Government of Sri Lanka and the World Bank on economic policy issues.

Currently he guides research scholars at the Sai University and among the many awards he has been decorated with are the Swami Pravananda Saraswati National Award 2004, by the University Grants Commission and the Indian Council for Social Science Research National Fellowship. Since 2001 Dr. Pandit and his wife Mrs. Krishna Pandit are Ashramites at Prasanthi Nilayam. However his association with the SAI University dates back to 1986 when Bhagawan decided to start the MBA program at His University. He had the good fortune to be felicitated with other three teachers of the University in June 2006.

Now despite such a stellar resume, it is our belief that for centuries to come, history will remember Dr. Pandit for an unrelated distinction. Here are the links to enjoy this insightful conversation in two parts.

We all must cultivate love. But what should be the nature of that love and who is the best example for such love? Bhagawan explains today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Prema (Love) should be shown not only towards God but towards all beings in creation. Love is a powerful force. No other power excels it. Misunderstanding the nature of love, people are falling a prey to suffering. This is the result of misguided expressions of what is considered love. People today worship God for the fulfillment of desires relating to this world and the other. This is not true love. People pretend to love their kith and kin and friends out of purely selfish considerations. This is only attachment and not love. Only that can be described as love which offers itself without any expectation of recompense. In the Gita, God has been described Suhrith (a true friend). Without expecting any return, accompanying you like a shadow, God fulfills your desires. God has no expectations. Suhrith defines the utterly selfless love of the Lord.

- Divine Discourse, Apr 1, 1995.

Tryst with Divinity - Exclusive Interview with Mr. Robert and Mrs. Rita Daniele of California, USA.

Loving Sairam!
Dear brothers and sisters,

Radio Sai is delighted to be back with brand new Tryst with Divinity Conversations with individuals whose life has been touched and transformed by the love of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In today’s Tryst with Divinity Conversations, we present Part 1 and Part 2 of an exclusive interview with Mr. Robert and Mrs. Rita Daniele of California, USA.
...
Mr. Robert Daniele was raised a catholic and in 1970’s he was moved by a book titled ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ by Paramahamsa Yogananda. Subsequently he joined Self Realization fellowship. In 1973 he joined Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of San Juan, California as a member of Sri Sathya Sai Organisation. Some of the early devotees of Bhagawan who had influenced Rovert were Elsie Cowan, Indra Devi and Jack Hislop.

In 1976 he made his first trip to India for three months and mostly stayed in Whitefield, Bangalore during that time. In 1977 Swami arranged his marriage and in 1978 Bhagawan performed his marriage. He has been a active member of Sri Sathya Sai Baba International Book Centre of America since 1977 and remained so to date.

In 1991 Bhagawan Baba instructed him to start weekly Gayatri Group Chanting of 108 Gayatri’s. In terms of education he holds BA degree in Business Management and in Accounting from California State University, Los Angeles and he has been a Realistic Broker since 1973. He is also a Trustee of Sri Sathya Sai Society of America.

His wife Rita Daniele has been a devotee of Bhagawan since 1968. She began working in Sri Sathya Sai Baba International Book Centre of America when she was 16 years old. Her first trip to India was with Elsie Cowan in 1974. That was the time during her first trip when Swami told about her future husband Robert Daniele. They both have been working in Sri Sathya Sai Baba International Book Centre of America since Elsie Cowan established it in Baba’s name.

Rita did her bachelor degree, teaching credentials and has been an educator for 15 years. Then Swami instructed her to do Masters in Counseling Psychology and in Marriage – Family counseling License. She has been a Marriage and Family Counselor for several years. After that Swami instructed her to return in Graduation School once again to complete Masters in School Psychologist and School Counselor. After completion Swami told her to take her positions in Santa Ana High school, California as a High school Counselor.

Both Robert and Rita Daniele spent some beautiful moments with Radio Sai’s Karuna Munshi when they came to our studio on December 27, 2013 and went down in memory lane to share beautiful experiences of their life with Sai. Here are the links to enjoy this wonderful conversation in two parts.

Who is our true enemy and why? Bhagawan explains and guides us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Monday, June 2, 2014

No one filled with greed, fear and anger can achieve anything in this world. Excess...ive desires degrade a person. One cannot give up desires entirely. But there should be a limit to them. When they exceed the limits one goes astray. Desires are dreadfully dangerous. Today's enemy may become tomorrow's friend and vice versa. But desires are perpetual enemies. They haunt man ceaselessly. The Gita declares desire as the Nityashatru (eternal enemy) of man. Hence desire has to be kept under control. ‘Kamam hitva arthona bhavathi’ (One who has given up desire is free from worries). ‘Lobham hitva sukhee bhavathi' (Overcoming greed one becomes happy). When you rid the mind of impurities, humanness turns divine.

Chaitanya Jyoti – An Enlighten Centre of Self Realization and Self Satisfaction

How would you sum up the Lord and His Works, His Life, Mission and Message to a friend? With a few words? Surely too short. A book - little better. How about a whole building with beautiful exhibits, wonderful pictures and breathtaking artifacts dedicated to Him. That's just what devotees felt inspired to do to commemorate the Sri Sathya Sai Avatar's 75 years of service to humanity.

That dream building came alive as the Chaitanya Jyoti Museum. 'Chaitanya' means 'consciousness' and 'Jyothi' is 'light'. So, the 'Light of Consciousness' is a mammoth attempt to portray Swami and His Message by way of the building's architecture and its contents of 90 exhibits based on the life and Teachings of the omni-faceted Lord.

But can a mere building do justice to His Love? It is after all to be apprehended by the five senses, which Swami says we have to transcend to glimpse His Love. But like the finger pointing to the moon the Chaitanya Jyoti Museum is a bold and beautiful endeavour to facilitate our awareness of the Divine - the Light of Consciousness within.

Raising from the rocky hillside it stuns the devotee with its grandeur and originality. Bhagawan paid the building a fitting tribute when He saw the first plans, asking if it was possible to build it; He then stated that "It will be the wonder of the 21st century".

Devotees coming to Prashanti Nilayam always make it a point to visit the Chaintanya Jyoti Museum. Capturing devotees' hearts at first sight, Chaintanya Jyoti attracts all who view it to come closer and wonder at its sublime beauty. The building is like a gift-wrapped present from Swami to His devotees. One cannot resist the temptation to step inside and unwrap this wonderful gift of the Lord. Inside this magnificent gift are wonders to behold - breathtaking visual treats for the eye and entrancing music for the ears; wisdom for the mind and sustenance for the soul.

Chaitanya – The Enlightening Inner Consciousness

“Today what we have to understand is Chaitanya. The Chaitanya is present from top to toe, within and without, inside and outside and everywhere and that is Chaitanya Jyothi and it is that consciousness, Chaitanya which we are neglecting. We have to watch it carefully, otherwise we will not get the real wisdom. We should not go beyond the limits. We should follow the procedure.”

(Excerpts from Divine Discourse delivered by Bhagawan on 18th November, 2001 during first Anniversary of the Museum)

Why should we not be weighed down by setbacks in our spiritual quest? Bhagawan gently and lovingly elucidates to us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Sunday, June 1, 2014

When the Asuras and Devas (D...emons and Gods) churned the Ocean of Milk (Ksheera Sagara), first came poison. They did not give up the churning till they got the Amrit (nectar of immortality). Regard your heart as the Ocean of Milk and the intellect as the Mandhara mountain. Using your yearnings as the churning ropes, carry on the churning by reciting the Lord's name. Do not mind if the first thing to come out is poison. Go on churning till you get the nectar of divine bliss. When you study the Bhagavad Gita, you will note that it begins with Arjuna Vishaadha Yoga, the (the despondency of Arjuna). But ultimately, Arjuna experiences the Vishvaruupa, the Cosmic Form of the Lord.

When God is pleased with you, the whole world will be pleased with you. Therefore, let all your efforts be towards pleasing God.-BABA.
