Om Sairam dearest Sai family

Words can't explain the grandeur with which Shivarathri 2014 was celebrated in Prashanthi Nilayam. Excepting Swami's "physical absence" every thing was just as the same of those days of Swami's "Physcial presence". Right from February 26th the devotees started to come in very big numbers. The trains, buses and even taxis picking up devotees from the airport were busy.

There was so much bliss and happiness in the air all over. considering the huge influx of crowd, good number of sevadals were placed at strategic points. The ashram was beautifully decorated. If any one who walked past the South Indian canteen, involuntarily stopped before taking a step further to feel the sweet fragrance of ghee and jaggery which emanated from the South Indian canteen kitchen where the jaggery rice was under preparation to be served as next morning's prasad.

The evening programme started off with special prayers by Sri.Nandunda Dixit (the blessed priest who conduced Ati Rudra Mahayagna in the year 2006) and his group and the Sri Sathya Sai Lingam (the lingam which was consecrated in the year 2006 by Swami Himself) was brought  ceremoniously in Sai Kulwanth hall.

The Priests later did various rituals to the lingam using 18 holy materials which included Honey, milk, curd, turmeric etc and after every ritual, the priests paused for two boys to translate it into English and Telugu languages.

The devotees were ecstatic when the priests went around till the last row sprinkling holy water on every one after which there was a video recording of Swami's divine discourse.

Exactly at 6 PM the 12 hour Akhanda bhajan paving way for night long vigil started with Deena natha Shankara...bhajan.

All the three canteens, westerners in small groups were practicing for almost a week, for the night long Akhanda bhajan and every one were given chance to sing in the sanctum sanctorium through the night in their allotted time slots.

Of all the overseas devotees present in Prashanth Nilayam, the Russians dominated in numbers and its amazing to see so many Russians always coming to Parthi and atleast 90% of them don't know a word in English. This is probably because of the suppression the nation has to undergo, there was much suffering, much loss in population due to many wars (II World war has taken about 40 mln people) and Russia was out of spiritual awareness for almost 75 years and only now they are trying to know about God and Godliness. Among the 200 plus ladies who were part of the Western Canteen group who sang at 12 am and 3 am there were atleast 140 Russians singing in perfect harmony, laya and Tala which speaks high of their urge to dive into the ocean of Spirituality.

There were quite a few devotees even in the middle of the night, praying with intense devotion which was fantastic to watch.

From 4 am on wards, the Sai Kulwanth hall started filling up slowly and just after 5 am it was full to brim.

The mikes were turned on at 5am and the atmosphere turned more vibrant. The sevadals were busy bringing in the loads of tamarind and jaggery rice. Just before 6 am, two bhajans sung by Swami were played on the big screen while the sevadals were busy asking the devotees to sit facing each other, with space left in between to serve food to every one. It was just a mouth watering experience while the students were walking into the devotees' lines with hot tamarind rice and jaggery rice in steel containers. In no time the prasad was served and what a perfect way to " break the fast" in the sanctum sanctorium.

There were many still discussing as why the ashram was celebrating Shivarathri on 28 th while the rest of the world celebrated on 27th. A very well learned Jyothish will always go for the 28th as against 27th ( atleast for this year) and probably in the whole world there were only two places which celebrated Shivarathri on 28th one is Kashi (Varanasi) and Parthi.

May our beloved Lord bless us all on this holy ocassion of Mahashivarathri..

With Pranams at the Lotus feet of our beloved Lord,

R.Satish Naik

Om Sairam dearest Sai Family

Any one who has come to Parthi to celebrate Shivarathri 2014 will agree with me if i say Puttaparthi is jampacked with thousands of devotees thronging to the holy abode to celebrate Shivarathri with SAI SHIVA.

The atmosphere is completely festive and mesmerising. The energy is vibrant and the heart is just chanting the name of Shiva the moment one enters the Ganesh gate.. For the devotees who have seen "

Lingodbhavam" and to those who have never seen Swami in His "physical form" but the " divine invitation" has just arrived are equally ecstatic thanking Swami for letting them come to the land where every grain of the sand is sanctified by the divine touch, for this is the land  where the " Paripoorna Avatar" made it as the " Head Office" and drew the whole world. From multimillionaires to the poorest of the poor, every one whom Swami invited are here in Puttaparthi thanking Him profusely for the kind gesture..

At this juncture, i remember Late, Mr.C.R.Singh from South Africa whom every one remembers as "Singing" singh for the beautiful English poems he used to sing in the divine presence. He was a blessed soul to live rest of his " post retirement" life in Prashanthi.

No matter if it were a rainy day or a hot summer day, he never used to wear footwear. Considering his age and how filthy Indian roads can be, i used to ask him to wear footwear and a beautiful poet he was, he replied bit poetically, I want my feet to " bath" in the sand of the holy Puttaparthi where my Lord Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has walked.. This is " Himalayan " devotion  which is rare to find..

As the Sai Family will be starting the night long vigil on February 28th through the morning of March 1st, lets try to analyse some inner significance of this festival in Swami's own words taken from His discourses over the years..

Why is the Raathri (the Night), so important? The night is dominated by the Moon. The Moon has 16 kalas (fractions of divine glory), and each day or rather night, during the dark fortnight, one fraction is reduced, until the entire Moon is annihilated on New Moon night. From then on, each night, a fraction is added, until the Moon is full circle on Full Moon Night. The Chandra (Moon) is the presiding deity of the mind; the mind waxes and wanes, like the Moon.

It must be remembered that the chief aim of all saadhana (spiritual striving) is to eliminate the mind, to become A-manaska. Then only can maayaa (illusion) be rent asunder and the Reality revealed. During the dark fortnight of the month, saadhana has to be done to eliminate each day a fraction of the mind, for, every day, a fraction of the Moon too is being taken out of cognizance. On the night of Chathurdhasi, the 14th day, the night of Shiva, only a fraction remains. If some special effort is made that night, through more intensive and vigilant saadhana, like puuja or japam or dhyaana (ritual worship, one-pointed repetition & holy names, and meditation), success is ensured. Shiva alone has to be meditated upon that night without the mind straying towards thoughts of sleep or food. On Maha-Shivaraathri a special spurt of spiritual activity is recommended, so that what is shavam (corpse) can become Shivam (God), by the perpetual awareness of its Divine Indweller.

Taken from the discourse delivered on Shivaraathri Day, February 1969

You are all waiting to hear from Me about the journey to Badri and what happened there.  Swami  went to Badrinath because the "Nethralingam" which is the central source of Holiness there had to be revived with spiritual efficacy. Shankaraachaarya brought five lingams from Kailaas and installed one each at Dwaaraka, Sringeri, Badhri and Puri and the fifth he placed at Chidambaram. Of these, the one at Badhri has the Naaraayana amsam (orientation)and that had to be consecrated afresh. That was My task and these people who came with Me saw Me doing it.I had to accomplish it this year itself, for this is the 35th year after this Avathaar took birth and this is also the year when the 35th successor to the Shankaraachaarya Peeta is at Shringeri. This year is therefore important for charging the battery of spiritual wealth, known as Badharikaashrama. The Nethra Lingam, laid by Shankaraachaarya underneath the idol there, was "taken" out by Me and abhisheka (consecration by pouring holy water) was done with Gangothri  (Ganges) water which I fetched by a wave of the hand. It was worshipped with golden Bilva leaves and Thumme flowers, both created by Me on the spot, and sent back to its original place. The Lingam was placed on a Golden Lotus, with three layers of petals, each having two smaller layers of 16 smaller petals---the entire Kamala (lotus) representing the Hridhaya (heart) where the Lingam has to be installed for worship.

Taken from Swami's discourse on 4th Julay 1961

People ask, "Why does Swami produce the Lingam (Formless Form of God) from within himself on this day?" But, let Me tell you, it is impossible for you to understand the attributes of the Divine and to measure its potentialities, or, to gauge the significance of the manifestation of Divinity. It is agamya (unreachable) and agochara (un-understandable, mysterious). Therefore, in order to bear witness to the fact that the Divinity is amidst you, it becomes necessary to express this attribute. Or else, the atmosphere of hatred, greed, cruelty, violence and irreverence will overwhelm the good, the humble and the pious. The Linga is just a symbol, a sign, an illustration, of the beginning less, the endless, the limitless- --for it has no limbs, no face, no feet, no front or back, no beginning or end. Its shape is like the picture one imagines the Niraakaara (Formless) to be. As a matter of fact, linga means---leeyathe (that in which all forms and names merge) and gamyathe (that towards which all names and forms are proceeding, to attain fulfilment). It is the fittest symbol of the All-pervasive, the All-knowing, the All-powerful. Everything is subsumed in it Thus, the circle is completed--from the beginningless to the Beginningless. This is the lesson that Lingobdhavam (emergence of the Linga) teaches.

Taken from Swami's discourse on 23 th February 1971 in Prashanthi Nilayam

Inner significance of Nandi in front  of Easwara

In temples of Easwara (or Shiva), you find Nandi (image of bull) in front of the deity. What is the inner significance of this? The usual reply you get is that Nandi is the Vahana (vehicle) of Easwara; as if He could not afford to have a better vehicle than a bull. This is a wrong idea. The truth is that just as the Lingam is the symbol of the Lord (Easwara), Nandi (bull) is the symbol for Jiva (individual soul). Therefore, just like the Nandi, man should turn away from Prakruthi (world) and direct all his attention towards Easwara only.

There are some more meanings for this symbolism. For instance, it is said that no one should stand between Easwara and Nandi. One should have the vision of Easwara by looking through the space in between the two ears of Nandi. The underlying idea is that through the Sadhana of using its ears to listen about Easwara alone, the animality in the bull becomes transformed into divinity and because of its merger with Easwara it is called Nandeeshvara (Bull-God). Thus the lesson of the symbolism is that man should also try to merge with God, by following the example of the Nandi.

Lets all be like "Nandi" with one pointed devotion and let not our Ego, pride, jealousy or hatred come in between us and our Lord. May this Shivarathri be a blessed one to all of us.. and lets all be His humble instruments..

Shivarathri - An Exposition by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba ......

Reminiscing the creation of Lingas by Sathya Sai Baba

A reminiscing that not only refreshes many a wondrous events that had been witnessed, but also rejuvenates the faith and hope, of all those who had experienced the creation of Lingas in the Divine Presence of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

The manifestation of the Lingam is a part of My Nature. Spiritual Scholars explain it as reminiscent of an epochal event in the past when Shiva challenged Brahma and Vishnu to gauge the height and depth of the Lingam Form

He assumed. The two Gods failed and had to accept defeat – that is the usual folklore. Truly speaking, however, the Lingam emerges as a result of prayer by devotees and Divine Grace. You have to recognise in this event a glimpse of Divinity and a sign of Infinite Grace. Just as Om is the sound symbol of God, the Lingam is the Form symbol or the visible symbol of God, the most meaningful, the simplest and the least endowed with the appendages of attributes.

Lingam means That in which this merges or dissolves. Eventually, all Forms have to merge in the Formless. Shiva is the Principle of the Dissolution of all Names and Forms, of all entities and individuals. Thus, the Lingam is the simplest sign or symbol of Emergence and Mergence.

Prasanthi Nilayam

Shivarathri Venues in Mumbai- 28th February, 2014

The Shiva In All

Maha Shivaratri celebrated in Prasanthi Nilayam and in Sri Sathya Sai Centres with an all-night session of bhajans from 6 pm to 6 am

Seeker: What is the special significance of Maha Shivaratri?

Sri Sathya Sai Baba: Shivaratri comes every month, but Maha Shivaratri falls once a year on the 14th day of the Krishna Puksha, dark  fortnight, of the Magha month of the Hindu calendar. The word Shivarathri mean - “auspicious night”. According to Hindu belief, the moon is he presiding deity of the mind and the 16 phases of the moon represent the 16 aspects of the  mind. On Shivaratri, which falls a day prior to the new moon, only a streak of the moon
is visible
. This is symbolic of the waning influence of the mind, when 15 aspects have already merged in the Self and only one aspect remains. Hence, on this day, it is easier to control the mind and direct it towards God.

So sanctify this night by participating in bhajans, in worship and contemplation of the Divine so that the vagaries of the mind can be totally subdued and transcended to attain realisation of the Atman.

Seeker: What did Adi Shankaracharya and other ancient rishis mean when they declared – “Shivoham,  Shivoham — I am Shiva, I am Shiva — when they attained Truth after long years of tapas and penance?

Sri Sathya Sai Baba: Shiva is also known as Sankara. Sam means auspiciousness of all kinds, happiness in all ways; kara means the one who causes it.  Sankara is the One who confers chitaananda — blissful awareness on those who take refuge in Him as the sages did. Shiva is the source of Bliss When you realize Shivoham - I am Shiva. Then you have all the joy, all the auspiciousness that there it. Shiva is not to be sought on the peak of a distant range of mountains, or in some other special place. Shiva is inherent in every thought, word and deed, for he is the I energy, power, and intelligence that is behind each of them Shiva means graciousness - mangalam— auspiciousness, so the epithet Sri, which indicates these qualities, is not added to his names, as in the case of the avatars, Sri Rama or Sri Krishna.

Seeker: What it the significance of a Lingam?

Sri Sathya Sai Baba: Just as Aum is the ‘sound’ symbol of God. a Lingam is the ‘form* symbol of God. The Lingam is an illustration of the 'Beginningless’, the Endless, and the Infinite — for ithas no limbs, face, feet, front, back, beginning or an end. Its shape is Nirakara — formless. In fact, it comes from  leeyate meaning That in which all forms and names merge and gam from gamyate meaning That towards which all names and forms proceed, to attain fulfillment So, the lingam is the simplest sign of emergence and mergence. Everything starts from it and everything is subsumed in it. It is the fittest symbol of the All-pervasive, the All-knowing, and the All-powerful.

Seeker: What is the lesson of  Shivaratri?

Sri Sathya Sai Baba: Resolve, on this holy Shivarathri, to visualise Shiva as the inner power of all beings and all things. He is the inner motivator Man prays to God for trivial boons. Pray to God for God. Shivoham is the truth and the truth alone can make man free and full of Bliss.

Sathya Sai with Students Blog Team presents articles for Week 75:

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: Man, a social being, is eternally in the quest for a 'true friend'. From childhood to school, college, work and beyond, one continues to look for someone who can be called as 'the true friend'. But does one's search ever end to one's satisfaction? In a Discourse to His students Swami gives the direction for this search: 'Who is Your True Friend?'

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Brother Raghavananda D.V. writes on the theme: "When I joined Swami's University..."

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: On Saturday, February 23, 2002, in the Prasanthi Nilayam Mandir portico, Swami asked a question: "What is God's real weight?" While He Himself gave the answer to this, but the conversation moved on to some very interesting insights about life and its core purpose. Read on for this fascinating conversation...

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: The modern corporate life is full of stress, tension and pressure. One hardly gets time to rise above one's daily schedule and look at the larger picture of life. In this daily humdrum of material life, the mind and its control plays a very important role for success and satisfaction. Swami enlightens us on the theme: 'Manager and Mind-Control'.

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: The Administrative Building of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning is an architectural marvel perched on top of a hill for all to adore. The genesis of this building is in Swami's own Sankalpa that unfolded in February 1982. Read on for the details of this interesting story...

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: As we would be celebrating the most auspicious festival of Mahashivaratri this month, we present a series of hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva during this month. This week we present: Shiva Nama Malya Ashtakam: A garland of eight verses extolling the grandeur of Lord Shiva.

All Marriages are made in heaven but very rarely marriages happen in " heaven on earth, PUTTAPARTHI". Such a blessing was bestowed to this blessed Couple Mr.Phil and Mrs.Vera both from Germany, who flew all the way to Puttaparthi to take their marriage vows in Puttaparthi, in a traditional Hindu wedding style. Many devotees, locals of Puttaparthi were highly appreciative of them to recognise the importance of tying the knots in Puttaparthi and there were so many unexpected guests who watched them get married in the local Hanuman Temple according to Hindu tradtion and Culture.

Personally, i know many " ardent devotees " who skipped Puttaparthi as the venue and married elsewhere citing petty reasons. But the fact of the facts is only the most fortunate ones get married in Puttaparthi and for some one to come and have a wedding in Puttaparthi during these times of Swami's "physical absence" really speaks of the height of their devotion and reverence towards Swami.

Both of them are ardent devotees of Bhagawan and are key members of the group who are translating all the Sathya Sai Speaks and Vahini series into German language. After wedding both of them thanked Swami for allowing their wedding to happen in the holy abode and they said its their dream come true and there were already contemplating to come back to Puttaparthi to celebrate their silver jubilee, 25 years from now in the same Hanuman Temple which speaks high of their devotion and also confidence, trust among themselves. May Swami bless this " already" blessed couple.

SHIVARATHRI- 2014, 27th or 28TH?

Sending this message as many queries came in, where in devotees wanted to know why Shivarathri is celebrated on February 28th in Prashanthi where as majority are celebrating on 27th February. I checked with many friends in the ashram and every one confirmed that it is going to be the night of 28th and ending on the Morning of March 1st..

I am summarising all the info that i got from various sources The Hindu Festivals in Particular are based on Hindu Calender. which depends on the movement of sun and moon so most of the festivals are celebrated on different dates, in different years and are very different to Gregorian calenders.

There are some festivals which have a minute difference of opinion as the sun and moon positioning are more or less the same which gives ample scope for argument and difference of opinions due to overlapping of the days. This year's Shivarathri also seems to be in this situation where the

Pandits have come up with two different dates which speaking technically are one and the same.

The festivals of Prashanthi this year were framed by Sri.Nanjunda Dixit, the same priest who did Ati Rudra Mahayagna in the year 2006. This issue of 27th or 28th was brought up to him and the answer he gave to the ashram management made them convince to opt for 28th as the positioning of the NO MOON is more apt on February 28th than 27th (which again is a benefit of doubt).

Many devotees have already decided to have two Shivaratri celebrations this year. One on 27th in their respective homes ( by doing Lingam abhishkem, visiting Shiva shrines etc) and almost all of the Sai Centers around the world will be going with Prashanthi Nilayam calender, will be observing Shivarathri on 28th by visiting Sai Centers...

Swami has explained the significance of Shivarathri very beautifully where in He said, just as the Moon is completely withdrawn, we also should make sure our mind is completely withdrawn. As moon is the presiding deity of the Mind, by keeping a night long vigil we can actually achieve this..

Either way, we have to make sure we remember our Lord's message of Mind management.

May this month of Shiva be a blessed one for all of us, to divert if not control our Monkey mind..

May our Lord be always with us...

With Pranams at the Lotus feet of our beloved Lord,

R.Satish Naik

Sathya Sai with Students Team presents articles for Week 74:

Sai Ram,

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: We all chant the food prayer before having our meals. But what is the benefit of chanting this prayer? In a Discourse to His students, Swami elaborates on: 'Why should I chant Brahmaarpanam?'

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Brother P.S. Priya Chakravarthy writes on the theme: "Sri Sathya Sai: Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent".

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: On Sunday, February 14, 2002, the king and queen of Kazakhstan came to Prasanthi Nilayam to have Swami's Darshan. He blessed them with an interview. That evening, Swami came to the verandah and shared with the staff and students about what happened inside the interview room. Read on...

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: Today, business and management have become quite technical, mechanical and to a large extent artificial devoid of human feelings and virtues. But, Swami always emphasised on the need for Management to have 'Man' i.e. human beings at its center and as its very core. This also forms the basis of Indian culture and civilisation, which gave extraordinary importance to human life and its dignity. We culminate this multi-part series, wherein Swami gives 6 ways for developing 'Management with a Human Face: An Indian Perspective' - Part 4.

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: On this very day in 1972, Swami celebrated the holy festival of Shivaratri in the Bandipur Sanctuary. Read on for a fascinating account of some landmark and miraculous events that occurred on this trip...

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: As we would be celebrating the most auspicious festival of Mahashivaratri this month, we present a series of hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva during this month. This week we present: Shiva Taandava Stotram: The hymn glorifying the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva. This hymn was composed by the great demon king Ravana who was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva

Prasanthi Nilayam

Om Sairam dearest Sai Family,

Chinese new year 2014 was one of its kind which literally brought China to Puttaparthi. This is one of the most important day in the Chinese calender and hundreds of Chinese devotees from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and other countries were here to celebrate in the abode of our beloved Lord.

Going bit out of "tradition" where a group visiting Parthi as part of their pilgrimage, always have some cultural activity or other planned in Sai Kulwanth Hall, the Chinese devotees brought some freshness and creativity by bringing the " Chinese tradition" into Prashanthi apart from the cultural activity in Sai Kulwanth Hall..

The whole group arrived in Prashanthi by January 30th and on 1st February they started the First Om Mani Padme Hum Retreat for World Peace in Prashanthi Nilayam. As wide word of mouth publicity was done, many locals including over seas devotees living in Prashanthi attended this chanting which started on 1st February and ended with a mass universal prayer on 3rd February.

This again is a very unique and " new" to Prashanthi. A bamboo cane is used in this particular exercise and Brother Billy Fong lead the proceedings by educating every one the benefits of this Cane Rejuvenation exercise which gives great relief for people suffering from acute body pains and lack of blood circulation. This was conducted for 3 days from 4th to 6th February every morning at 6:30 am. Many devotees felt very good and i am sure this exercise will gain more awareness in the near future..

This also is a traditional Chinese treatment which promises speedy recovery without chemicals or operations but by just pressing at the points associated with the pain. This drew so many people to the session as every one were keen to know the benefits and techniques of this therapy, after all who doesn't have pain now a days!!!!.

Brother Loo an expert in Origin Point Therapy (OPT) explained the benefits and also gave live demonstrations by inviting people with ailments from the audience. many chronic patients with severe neck pain, shoulder pains, continuous cough, knew problems, heart problems came up.

There was an interesting case of one Dr.Susan Wei from USA who is here to participate in the Vibronics conference. She is a chronic patient with Parkinson disease where in the doctors had given up on her. She had her left hand always trembling, her left leg lost the sense of touch and was using a walking stick for the past 3 years so as to know where her left leg was landing. After two sessions from Dr.Loo she now was walking without the help of walking stick and the trembling was completely gone.

During one of the OPT sessions she shared this news with every one..

5th and 6th February 2014:

It was time for some programmes in Sai Kulwanth Hall and after lighting two beautiful lotus shaped candles, brother Billy Fong who is also the New year co-ordinator for Chinese New Year celebrations thanked Swami for the great opportunity to celebrate Chinese new year in the Divine abode. He then explained the importance of Swami's teachings which are now need of the hour and quite aptly the theme of this year's Chinese New Year Celebrations Sai Baba’s Teachings – His Greatest Gift and Blessings For Mankind

It was then the turn of Mr. Krishna Putra who spoke in length about the significance of Kaun Yin Mantra.

There were some beautiful songs sung by the group.

7th February 2014:

The evening started off with Malaysian Youths, boys and girls dressed in traditional attire had a beautiful choir making rhythmic moves.

Later Dr. Ravindran, Chairman of Zone 4 countries read out his introductory notes thanking Swami for yet another chance to celebrate the Chinese new year. He was all praise for the devotees who put in lot of hard work in preparing for this year's celebrations.

He later introduced the speaker of today's programme Bro.Young.

A civil Engineer by profession, Brother Young knew of Swami in the year 1980 and his first visit was in 1994. He later on narrated the beautiful story of his with Swami and how He transformed his life .

Later the Youths of Indonesia enacted a drama based on the Chinese philosopher, great reformer and an inspiring teacher Confucius. The old Chinese culture were following the tradition where if a master dies, all the workers/slaves were also buried along with the master. Confucius with his calm and composed character tried to abolish this culture from the society by teaching, igniting the brains of people. He said, don't do that which you wouldn't do to your self. Initially he was objected and rejected later on circumstances made him leave the kingdom as the rulers banned him. He used this opportunity to travel extensively and spread the message of love. It was sweet and interesting act.

This Chinese new year will be remembered for its " rich content" and also for the devotion with which each and every one especially the youth participated in every activity. Many times we see with over seas groups, people of Indian origin devotees out number the natives but this was an exception with atleast 90% of the devotees were of Chinese origin making the whole programme more lively and attractive. The local media also gave a wide coverage of this year's Chinese New year programme.

Not sure how many remember Mr. Devidas who rolled 1200 kilometers to reach Puttaparthi to pray for world peace in the month of May 2013. He is now doing the same feat from Shirdi to Puttaparthi. He is planning his " rolling journey" so as to reach Puttaparthi on Shivarathri day which will be celebrated on February 28th in Prasanthi Nilayam.

Here is the video of his arrival to Puttaparthi in May 2013

May Swami bless this year of " Horse" to bring in tons of energy, a cautious " speed", strong mental and spiritual alertness. Puttaparthi in the recent part is seeing a continuous inflow of devotees which is making this place more busier by the day. In this place, there is no dearth of peace and harmony away from the rat race of the out side world provided you are " tuned into Swami".

May Swami bless us all with His choicest blessings..

'Sathya Sai with Students' Blog Update - Week 73

Sai Ram,

Sathya Sai with Students Team presents articles for Week 73:

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: We welcomed the new year 2014 with the first part of this Discourse by Swami. As we enter the second month of the new year, we present Part 2 of the Divine Message on: "The Twin Pillars of Human Life".

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Brother Pawan Negi writes on the theme: "What were you thinking last night?"

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: On Sunday, February 10, 2002, in a conversation with staff and students in the Prasanthi Nilayam portico, Swami discussed about the different railway services being offered from the Prasanthi NIlayam Railway Station. At that time, He revealed: "I have never traveled in rail, rickshaw or motorcycle".

This week we present the third part of the multi-part series, wherein Swami gives 6 ways for developing 'Management with a Human Face: An Indian Perspective' - Part 3.

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: Who can distance the Lord from His devotees?! An experience given by Swami in the year February 1964 to communicate this very truth is very impacting. Read on...

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: As we would be celebrating the most auspicious festival of Mahashivaratri in the last week of this month, we present a series of hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva during this month. This week we present: Chandrashekhara Ashtakam: Eight verses in the Glory of Lord Chandrashekhara

Beggar turns entrepreneur..

Note: Its just distorted prose with Poetry cosmetics.

Being Dust, ChemburDust that is,
we free-flow with the wind, when stirred,
from the bottom of the Pyramid to its higher rungs
and get to witness the widening gap
between the haves and have nots. Of Love.

Not the conventional haves/nots in economic sense.

Many suffer this 'Love-drought',have-nots bring about.

Unloved,Uncared, the victims are scorched by Apathy.

A little finger drenched in love can lift them.

Longing for love they languish.Across the corridors.

From bottom to top. Yes. The victims of 'Love-drought'.

And Hari Bhau is one of them.

A while ago we spotted Hari bhau as a beggar.

With "Opp Portugese Church Dadar" as temp address
and " a village near Alibag" as the permanent one.

These days this much is enough even to raise a home loan.

Stable cashflow. Same place for long. Fit case they would say.

But Haribhau had no takers. Bad luck.

Being handicapped -'immobile below waist-'
he decided "not to be a burden to his parents
and moved to Mumbai" chasing his dream
to become 'somebody' in life.

Worked in a shoe store for a while when some NGO
gifted him a tricycle operated by hand.

Quickly he set up a shop on wheels
and tried to catch up whatever lost in life .

But destiny had other plans. Haribhau fell sick.

Had tobe operated in the eye.
After prolonged stay in govt hospital,
he returned to find that his goods were lost.
Vehicle damaged. Even Relatives deserted.

With just around 5k he would have got his life back.

But the society around was too busy
to lend a little finger to lift Haribhau.

Left to his fate, he was forced to beg.

Opp Porugese church Dadar, now his home address.

But they say when all doors are closed, quietly
God opens a window in some corner
allowing a dash of fresh air. To revive Hope.

May be Jesus inside the Portugese Church
decided to bless our Bhau and
put together a Plan of Action.

"My Love is infinite. How can I leave Hari Bhau?
Before this Christmas let Bhau be blessed to
move out of this wretched life as Beggar
and get back his old life with dignity" -

Angels in His back office
heard this command of their Lord.
And did, what they always do.
Planted right impulses in select human minds
to carry out His will. To help Hari bhau.

Such is the routine in subtle space always.

On spotting the begging Haribhau
during our daily walk to Siddhi vinayak
one strange impulse inside us (See the Angels hand)
pushed us to ask his background.

Cut. Now visualise lip movements of Haribhau and ourselves
as they show in flash back without sound.
His entire life story told in fast forward.

Which moved us immensely.

For born beggars, it is not a misery.
But for those who lived a life with dignity,
to lose all and become a beggar
is the worst form of agony.

We met him almost daily and gave food pkt.

We could discover that despite the misery

Haribhau's set of values inside him were intact.

Honest. Unassuming. Suffering gracefully.

A rare demenour worth rewarding.

One more impulse(again Angels work) pushed us to take
the next logical steps. We asked him -
"Do you want the old life back?
Can you run a shop now? "

"Yes.Who likes to beg on the streets?"

His reply resonated confidence.

Enough to kickstart the Rehab project.

We spoke to the Municipality who assured that
they dont disturb the handicapped hawkers
as long as they dont disturb people around.

We contacted the FPH-Fellowship of the handicapped
who made for us a tricycle for Haribhau's needs.

The brand new tricycle replaced the old one.

And stuff for a new shop procured.

Hand kerchiefs, caps, Napkins,socks etc

Many small issues resolved.

Around Christmas the shop set up to start trials.

Our team was overjoyed to see the first day sales.

Oh. God . It works.
Jesus with His angels inside
had a hearty laugh -
"My Child. Believe.Love works".

Formal inauguration was done on 1st Jan 2014.

Haribhau's life reversed and reinstated.

Now Mr.Haribhau is a small entrepreneur.

We set up a tiny supply chain and taught him
how and where to procure new stuff for refills
after doing it ourselves for a while.

Hari Bhau 'Before' (begging with broken tricycle) and 'After'(roadside vendor).. Roadside Shop inaugurated on 1 Jan 2014.

Now, everyday as we walk along
we see in Haribhau's face
the sudden flash of a grin on spotting us
with a loud - 'Sairam'.. 'Sairaaam'.
We silently respond and move on.

"Many Hari bhaus are to be redeemed.

And very little time left. Hurry up." (Angels'Whats App')

More than Hari Bhau, we felt blessed.

For playing a small part in His grandiose design
to redeem and rehabilitate the chosen ones.

As small time trader, Haribhau many not
add to our GDP, enough to make economic sense.

But in spiritual domain it is a 'big ticket' event showing
how Destiny can be reversed with Divine Grace.

One more Chinna Katha added to the
'Love All-Serve All' story book of Life.
