PARTHI NEWS - APRIL 2014

How should we bring forth the Divine principle from within? How do we know we have achieved it? Bhagawan explains to us through practical and memorable examples.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Sunday, April 27, 2014

Fire emerges when one wooden stick is rubbed against another. Can two sticks placed next to each other produce the fire? No. Fire though latent in them, emerges only through the act of rubbing of the sticks. What do these sticks ...symbolize? The sticks represent the human body. The fire of wisdom (jnana) is present in subtle form within us since our birth and is inert. Spiritual effort (Sadhana) is the process of rubbing the sticks. Where is the butter present in the milk? Butter has always been present in the milk and could be obtained only after the milk had been converted to curd and the curd was churned. Once butter is obtained from the buttermilk, it remains as butter without becoming milk. Likewise, in the human body, a divine power pervades every part of the body, which, after the experience of a Sakshatkar (vision of the Divine) will not be attached to the body.

- Divine Discourse, Oct 18, 1991.

Sadhana is essential because the effects of Karma must be removed by Karma alone, just as a thorn (sharp instrument) is needed to remove another thorn. - BABA.

'Sathya Sai with Students' Blog Update: Week 84 - Aradhana Day Special

Sai Ram,

'Sathya Sai with Students' blog team takes this opportunity to pray to our Most Beloved Lord on the third Aradhana Day for His Grace and Blessings on all mankind.

The articles this week are focussed on the core Message of the Sri Sathya Sai Avatar:

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: On this day, three years ago when Swami left His physical form and culminated His earthly sojourn. We miss Him dearly, as we love Him so much. However, it is very necessary to remind ourselves of His Message in order to understand the core of the Sathya Sai Principle such that we can experience His Love and His grandeur within ourselves at all times. In His lifetime, Swami has given over 3,500 Divine Discourses repeatedly emphasising on certain very core principles. In a few excerpts, we present here, His Message in His own words, from some landmark Discourses.

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Dr. Shashank Shah writes on the theme: "Sri Sathya Sai Baba: His Life is His Message..."

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/sri-sathya-sai-baba-his-life-is-his.html

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: This was the time of the year when students and staff of Swami's educational institutions would have the wonderful opportunity of interacting with Him in His close physical proximity at Trayee Brindavan. To reminisce those wonderful moments and events, we present a series titled 'Trayee Sessions' for the period April to June 2001. This post records the happenings of April 27, 2001.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/trayee-sessions-part-2.html

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: Swami has always highlihted the role of education as being for life and not merely for earning a living. In a Discourse to His Management students, He highlights this very aspect as being the core objective of education.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/management-degree-for-life-not-just-for.html

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: This was the time of the year when Swami would take a group of blessed students with Him to Ooty and Kodaikanal for a Divinely delightful stay. In a series of articles, we present some of those trips. This week, we reminisce the month-long trip of Swami to the hills of Ooty and Kodaikanal in April-May 1989.

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: We have this week, a song composed by Swami and sung by Him on innumerable occasions delighting the multitudes: 'Love is My Form...'

THIRD MAHASAMADHI DAY 2014, NEWS FROM PUTTAPARTHI

Om Sairam dearest Sai Family

Greetings to one and all from hot Puttaparthi which is now decorated like a bride with scores of devotees thronging to Puttaparthi, to offer prayers to our beloved Lord, on the occasion of Third Mahasamadhi day. Three years have passed so quickly but the memories of the painful separation is never to be forgotten.

Ever since His "Physical Withdrawal" we all had to face lots of challenges and the Prasanthi Management in particular had a very tough time with all the allegations in the media. There was also our "monkey Mind" which made us carried away with the misleading media reports and we were almost at the verge of having second thoughts about the Sai Mission and the Movement but on this day if we STILL call ourselves a "Sai devotee" it is all His grace and compassion. Swami kept His word that He would never leave us and never ever allow us to leave Him.

The specialty of Sathya Sai Avatar is every time some thing bad is written or said only few hundreds leave with new additions in thousands. This is clearly to be seen in various Sai Centers around the world and Puttaparthi in particular where one finds devotees who had never visited Parthi during the days of Swami's "Physical Presence" but the devotion among them is second to none. The Sai activities all over the world is also getting the recognition of respective governments and devotees all over the world have taken up "Seva" more intensely than before.

Ever since Swami's "Physical withdrawal" undoubtedly, every one of us are feeling Him, His presence more than before. In those days, no matter what we all were confining Swami to that orange robe form living in Puttaparthi, but now we visualise Him seated in the throne of our hearts. This "vision" of every devotee is making every one of us more "vigilant" and "responsible"than before.

Having said so, there is still lots to be done by every one of us and also by the management. But one thing is for sure, Swami is in "full control" of the present situation and is taking His sweet time to set things right. This is what we saw with Swami. He is never in a hurry or seem to be tense. That is why He always asks us to just " witness" and not get involved in the situation as things happen good or bad is for our own good.

The third Mahasamadhi celebrations are in full swing. Lots ofdevotees from India and over seas are now camping in Puttaparthi. The Trust is also making arrangements for a Mega Narayana seva where thousands of people from the neighbouring villages will be served food and given free clothing in the Sri Sathya Sai Hill view stadium in the morning of April 24th . There are so many temporary tents put up in every corner of Puttaparthi where devotees are making arrangements for feeding.

On a personal level I want to thank each and every one of you for sending best wishes, blessings and love to my sister for her marriage scheduled on April 25th in Puttaparthi, As I have to concentrate on the wedding arrangements, I may have to be out of action for the third Mahasamadhi day ..

Aaradhana Mahothsavam in Parthi. Sri. V. Srinivasan, Central Trust Says, “Thousands of devotees had come to Divya Sannidhi.”

Sai Ram.

By the constant Loving seva by the team of Radio Sai, we could view the morning sessions of Aradhana Mahothsavam Day in Prashanthi Nilayam. We will waiting for the next webcast in the evening sessions too.

We were thrilled to listen to 2 important speakers in t...he morning. One was the most learned Sri. Gurumoorthy. Every word he uttered were a gem, reflecting Swami’s ideals in every sentence he spoke about.

The second speaker is our beloved Sri. V.Srinivasan, An active member of Sri Sathya Sai Cental Trust. He emphasised that everyone has a part to play in any form of seva for swami, in one way or the other. In his most devoted discourse, he urged devotees to develop a heart-to-heart contact with Bhagavan.

I had been advocating in the internet, to use the word, “Sai Sannidhi”, instead of Samadhi. I was very pleased to listen these words from Sri Srinivasan. He said, “Thousands of devotees had come here from all over India and also many overseas countries, to the Divine Sannithi”. To listen this again, please mark the point of 1.44 to 1.45 in the time line of the video cast, which is still available in a recorded version and which may be put into a web link very soon by Radio Sai.

With Love & Regards, Mumbai Srinivasan.

Maha Narayan Seva at Hill View Stadium

Aradhana Mahotsavam is a day of worshipful remembrance. An offering made on such an occasion must be something that pleases Bhagawan, and He is most delighted when His children are served. To mark this solemn day, Maha Narayana Seva at the Hill View Stadium and Prasadam for all devotees were arranged behind North block of Ashram. Thousands of devotees partook Bhagawan's Prasadam, and clothes were given to all Narayanas who gathered in the stadium today morning after the Morning Programme at Sai Kulwant Hall.

Sairam!!!! PRASADAM given to devotees in lunch today noon at Prasanthi Nilayam on the occasion of Sri Sathya Sai Baba's Aradhana Mahotsavam. VENUE : Open ground behind N-7 block  - Photo shared by Mayur Madurai

When we observe Bhagawan we often come to conclusions about His nature and means. But do we really comprehend Him? On the Auspicious Aradhana Mahotsavam Day Bhagawan Himself explains His advent.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam..., Thursday, April 24, 2014

There are many who observe My actions and start declaring that My nature is such and such. They are unable to gauge the sanctity, the majesty and the eternal reality that is Me. The power of Sai is limitless; it manifests forever. All forms of 'power' are resident in this Sai palm. But, those who profess to have understood Me, the wise, the Yogis (spiritually advanced persons), the Pandits (scholars), and the Jnanis (liberated persons) - all of them are aware only of the least important, the casual, external manifestation of an infinitesimal part of that power, namely, the ‘miracles’! My power is immeasurable; My truth is inexplicable, unfathomable. What I will, must take place; what I plan must succeed. I am Truth; and Truth has no need to hesitate, or fear, or bend. I am announcing this about Me, for, the need has arisen.

- Divine Discourse, Jun 19, 1968.

When God is pleased with you, the whole world will be pleased with you. Therefore, let all your efforts be towards pleasing God.-BABA

Why is selfless service so vital to a spiritual life? Bhagawan answers the question with an illustration, explaining the benefits of service for us today.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Tuesday, April 22, 2014

The Gita advises that service to the society (Sangha) is the highest service (Seva), as well as the most beneficial spiritual discipline (Sadhana). No one ...can run away from this obligation; you have to use the community wherein you are born for sublimating your ego and saving yourself. Service taken up as a Sadhana teaches fortitude (Sahana). That is why Krishna directed Arjuna to engage in battle to win back his share of the Kingdom, and ensure for the people righteous administration and an atmosphere wherein they can strive successfully to attain salvation. This he had to do in a spirit of dedication and surrender to the will of God, irrespective of his own likes and dislikes, and the consequences that might flow from his unselfish activities. Even Avatars (incarnations) demonstrate in their lives the supreme importance of Seva.

- Divine Discourse, Jan 11, 1968.

Loving service is a penance that promotes the practical application of your knowledge, skills and virtues. - BABA.

“Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam” – An Exclusive Radio Sai Timeline Cover for the Auspicious and Grand occasion of Aradhana Mahotsavam.

Loving Sairam!

When God comes down in human form, He chooses to honour the limits of time, as that is the Dharma He Himself has ordained for any physical body. The difference, however, is that His withdrawal is part of a Master plan that none can comprehend entirely. And yet, He has not gone anywhere, because He always resides in the temple of our Hearts.

It was the 24th April, 2011 that Bhagawan Baba chose as the day we must turn all our adoration to His true form - the limitless infinite one. And befittingly, this day is celebrated every year as the 'Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam'. Even as Prasanthi Nilayam braces itself for the observance of the third Aradhana Mahotsavam, we are happy to share with you that the celebrations will start on 23 April and those of you who will not be able to be in Prasanthi can join the celebrations by tuning in to the live broadcast on the Radio Sai Website.

Feel free to make this Radio Sai Facebook offering your timeline cover and also share it with all and join this auspicious event with us. Let us all participate in this solemn occasion, by joining together and expressing our love and reverence from the depths of our hearts. And there is no better way to celebrate this day than to vow to follow Bhagawan's message of Universal Love which will lead us to unraveling our latent Divinity.

Global Gayatri Mantra program on Saturday, 26th April 2014 - Animal Matters article - Sai Baba Vahini book

Apr 19 at 2:14 AM

Sai Ram Dear Gods and Goddesses of the globe!

Happy Easter to you all!

Global Gayatri Mantra chanting program:

The next Gayatri Mantra chanting program shall be held on Saturday 26th April 2014 (2pm to 7pm), at your country's local time).

Sai Baba imparted invaluable knowledge to us all via discourses, writings and interviews. One of the assets about divinity that He shared with us is the fact that God is completely selfless. And this is the reason that we pray to God for His physical well-being. We now realise why God never heals Himself. An example is of Jesus: Over 2,000 years ago devotees wondered why, even when He saved everyone else, He did not save himself from crucifixion? It is the same reason that Sai Baba has explained to us: God does not cure Himself as it is selfish. His devotees must ask for this to be achieved! A devotee asked Sai Baba why He did not heal Himself? - Sai Baba explained that God does not cure himself as it is selfish. The devotee asked Sai Baba what they could do to help? Sai Baba further explained that the Gayatri Mantra should be chanted...

We continue with this initiative, as God reincarnates as and when He chooses to:

"I incarnate from age to age" -- Sai Baba

...Today, over 50 countries' spiritual seekers and devotees of God, unite and chant, every two months for this unique initiative to express pure, unconditional love to God. Devotees from different countries, backgrounds, mother-tongues, cultures, traditions of all ages, join in and chant the Gayatri Mantra together!

"Gayatri is the embodiment of all forms of Godhead - Sarva Devatha Swaroopman. Gayatri does not belong to any caste, to any sect or to any religion as such. It is universal in it's scope"

(Sai Baba)

"Never give up the Gayatri; you may give up or ignore any other mantra but you should recite the Gayatri at least a few times a day" (Sai Baba)

If you would like to join in; please be aware that there are no conditions. All can join in, as individuals or as groups. - From any location.

For those of you that would like to join in with the full program schedule, please email jitenthakrar@yahoo.co.uk and the media files and program documents shall be sent to you.

The next program takes place on Saturday, 26th April, 2014, from 2pm to 7pm (at your country's local time).

It is Easter time and so we should learn the lessons that Jesus taught us! - The below is a video used at a previous Gayatri Mantra chanting program:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTMS-CFjDOU

Firstly, a devotee asked "He has saved others, why can't he save himself now?" -- This is because God does not act selfishly. Sai Baba himself has explained to devotees that he will not heal himself as it is selfish. - JESUS HAD UNCONDITIONAL, SELFLESS LOVE AND SACRIFICE FOR GOD.

Secondly, a devotee stated "Even now, nailed to the cross, he quotes the scriptures". -- In this way, Jesus displayed pure devotion. - EVEN AS JESUS WAS DIEING, HE DISPLAYED PURE DEVOTION TO GOD.

The third lesson that we can learn from the clip is that Jesus took on our sins to save us. The devotee said "...and through his wounds we are healed." Only, this time we are fortunate and blessed enough to have the opportunity to help God with His future tasks in a form! Sai Baba has explained that by his devotees chanting the Gayatri Mantra, the energy will goes back to God. We can help Sai Baba/God by simply sacrificing our time and chanting the Gayatri Mantra. - JESUS SACRIFICED HIS LIFE FOR GOD.

For those of you that missed them, you can watch an exclusive video of our Father, Baba giving an interview to a small group; explaining about the Gayatri Mantra here:

Raj Selvakumar's view on chanting the Gayatri Mantra for Sai Baba:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P01Ju0RSeY

Gayatri is the Mother of all scriptures (Vedas). She exists, wherever Her name is chanted. She is very powerful. The One who nourishes the individual being is Gayathri. She bestows pure thoughts on anyone who worships Her. She is the embodiment of all Goddesses. Our very breath is Gayatri, our faith in existence is Gayatri. Gayathri has five faces, they are the five life principles. She has nine descriptions, they are ‘Om, Bhur, Bhuvah, Swah, Tat, Savitur, Varenyam, Bhargo, Devasya’. Mother Gayathri nourishes and protects every being and She channelizes our senses in the proper direction. ‘Dheemahi’ means meditation. We pray to her to inspire us with good intelligence. ‘Dheeyo Yonah Prachodayat’ - We beseech her to bestow on us everything we need. Thus Gayathri is the complete prayer for protection, nourishment and finally, liberation.

Animal Matters article:

Mercini Sherratt has written a very interesting article on animals and their ability to heal!

These articles are being sent out to you all, every two months and the below is an extract from the latest writing called 'Animals as Healers':

"...There is no need to mention again those wonderful dogs who serve disadvantaged humans, whether they simply be blind, deaf or disabled people, soldiers suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome or mentally and emotionally traumatised souls, or the cats who bring healing to the autistic or the horses, ponies or donkeys who bring about transformation in troubled, at times delinquent teenagers and children. Pet therapy is another line of service often mentioned now and certain special animals have been used in counselling sessions with children, helping those children to open up and communicate more and to generally leave the session feeling much better! Then there are the animals who earn merit through regularly visiting nursing homes, schools for children with difficulties, hospitals and such-like, bringing joy to the inmates. Apart from anything else, stroking a purring cat lowers blood pressure and stress levels. Certain mediums have even seen a pink aura of affection emanate from contented, purring cats. We also hear of Dolphin Assisted Therapy where certain dolphins work with the disabled, traumatised, depressed and also dolphins who, through their loving interaction, enable Downs’ Syndrome children to make progress and learn to read and write...."

“Hanuman was a servant. He exemplified the ideal of a servant. Rama embraced Hanuman and said “Dear Friend, Hanuman. You in your physical form belong to a different species. You are a monkey and I am a man. But the love principle is one and the same in both of us”. (Sathya Sai Baba, Discourses, Volume 5, p.380)

Please do take a moment to read the full article via the below link, and I am sure you shall see why Sai Baba had come into Mercini's dreams a few times, instructing her to speak out and be a voice for the otherwise 'voiceless' Divine animals in His creation:

Sathya Sai Baba's 'Sutra Vahini':

Sutra Vahini means: Stream of Aphorisms on Brahman...

Sai Baba has written 16 Vahinis. I shall get to the point this time: Who in their right mind, would not want to know what God Himself has directly written about, whether the topic is Brahman (the Godhead) or any part of Brahman's creation?

Here is a sample from the book:

One has to know “That” as Brahman, the source of origination, maintenance, and disintegration (srishti, sthithi, and laya) of this perceptible cosmos. Brahman is the entity from whom this creation (jagath), this apparently concrete, ever-changing product of the tendency of the mind to visualize, has originated. This creation is maintained as an organization by Brahman, in spite of the ever-present flux, and it ultimately subsides or merges in Brahman itself. Shouldn’t there be One who designs and decides on some sort of control and regulation of this creation? (Sai Baba, Sutra Vahini)

Mall Valley Civilisation and Mattur Village...

Om Sairam

Note: This is not Poetry. Just distorted prose with Poetry cosmetics, formatted for easy read.Views expressed in it are personal with a dash of spoof.

Look at a Mall in your neighbourhood.
The footfalls of the youth in Mall corridors
sum up to suggest that a New India is emerging.

Many fear that this new "Mall valley Civilisation" *
* just spoof
might wipe out without trace,
the best of Indian tradition inherited by us that
survived even the onslaught of Moguls and the British

but going through a rough patch now.
Tradition has a meaningful role to play to
bind families,Societies and the Nation as a whole.

Western countries are system-driven.

Even if someone falls from 60th floor,

every sec he would get informed

at what rate he's falling and the

ETA of his hitting the floor.

It may not save him but he will
die a 'well-informed' death !

While ours is Relationship-driven.

Senti guys. Think through the heart.

Here Systems fail. But relationships survive.

Look at any slum patient brought to govt hospital.

10 folks surrrounding him with half of them crying.

Though the faulty systems there would fail him for sure,

he might survive due to moral support.

Here, for ages, community provided the support system.

And that's governed by age old tradition.

You may get help from strangers
as it is "Athithi Devo bhava"

But if you misspell your password
your own system wont support.Forget Athithi's.

So much for 'System-driven"...

Now tradition-deficit is taking its toll here.

We were told-"Just look around.See the devastation
in the families brought about by impulsive youth
who mock at traditional values and
set out to sail on their own and sank.."

We couldn't believe the stats.
Sent our 'reporter' to eavesdrop
in a 'Mall Valley' in the neighbourhood.
Now read the Reporters file,
the quotable quotes from there..

"Kal kisne dekha. KAO Piyo Aash karo yaar"

"We are the Masters of our destiny. Don't let the Oldies decide for you"

" Savings? What's it. Are you Raghuram Rajan or what.
You Swipe the card and sail through man"

"Spouse is just a counter party as in any other deal. If it doesnt work

call it quits.Why crib eternally"

"Parents are better off in old age homes. Say 'hi' to them once in a while and provide some cash. Can't service them at home, you see. Be Practical"

"You like it or not. In my world all roads lead to America.
That's the dream destination for our kids. So I trained my kids
not to speak in our mother tongue but in English even at home.
I don't understand what tradition you guys are talking about"

The Post-lib* kids populate * Post liberalisation era kids since 1991
the most of Mall valley Civilization..

We borrowed a few kids from there
and asked them to help us with a'big picture'of future,
using 'Predictive Analytic tools'they use in their offices.

What emerged was a scary trajectory..sorry..TRAGICtory !

Many super skilled high powered wealthy individuals

looked love-anaemic and Relatioship-starved in future.

They looked isolated one-man islands that are resource rich
but no one to relate to. Just dying for real love.

Even as we sat with heavy heart and sullen look,

someone mentioned about a village down south
called " Mattur" near Shimoga.

There even now people speak in Sanskrit.
The boys of the village work
for Software companies in nearby Bangalore
but the village is in its traditional best

what with Veda Pada shalas etc in full swing..
That was real cool...

(Youtube has ample stuff on Mattur)

We sent the word around and a team of 14
decided to explore the left over tradition in Mattur,
the Sanskrit speaking village of India.

Our team landed in Mattur on Sun,6th April '14

being typical weekend warriors that we are.

The old village homes,Veda Pada shala, live river, temples and

people following the religious rituals sincerely....

It looked as though it was just a setting yanked

out of an old movie showing 16th century India.(see the pic below)

We walked in to a home where the

elders spoke to us in Sanskrit which
we could understand but not speak a bit.

The youth over there spoke in a dialect called Sanketi
a sanskrit mix with other Indian languages.

We met a guy from the village who is now
with a Software company in Bangalore

frequenting Mattur on all holidays attending all functions.

He too could speak in Sanskrit with ease
and explained to us how the youth there value the tradition
despite working in many MNCs.

We came to know that centuries back
Krishna devaraya gave 2400 acres of land to 120 families
in Mattur, deeply entrenched in tradition and wanted them
not to deviate from that. They all spoke in Sanskrit.

We were asked to sing Sai Bhajans in the local temple.

On hearing us the villagers came running

and were happy to join the chorus.

The entire village reverberated with Bhajans.

May be we sang with vengeance against the Mall valley..(!)

We left Mattur with our hope rekindled.
After all everything is not lost.

The MP3 plugged in our ears crooned..
"
yada yada hi dharmasya...".

Jyothi Meditation Practice

Sairam dear all,

Hope you are all doing well by Swami’s grace.

Every year we observe 24th April as the Mahasamadhi Day. On this sacred occasion. Let us pay homage and express our heartfelt gratitude to our beloved Swami and rededicate our lives to Him. This year, in observance of this auspicious occasion, we will be practicing “Jyothi meditation” during our regular Sunday program on 4/13 and 4/20 at regular meeting place, NWAC in Bellevue, details as below.

Jyothi meditation is one of His universal teachings that leads to the realization of the Atma. Please click here to see enclosed letter from Dr. Narendranath Reddy, Chairman of the Prasanthi Council, regarding the observance of Mahasamadhi Day. The letter provides links to the golden voice of our loving Lord Sathya Sai on Jyothi meditation from His discourse on 25th May 1979, and the transcription of this discourse as well as selected references about Jyothi meditation (provided below as well).

20th March 2014

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the Lord of the universe, incarnated in human form to remind us that our true nature is divine. He is the embodiment of pure, selfless, unconditional Divine Love that transcends all boundaries. He has shown us how to love and live in love. His Life is His Message.

Every year we observe 24th April as the Mahasamadhi Day. On this sacred occasion, let us pay homage and express our heartfelt gratitude to Bhagawan and rededicate our lives to Him. Let us love Him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and practice His universal teachings of Love and Service to all creation. This year, on this auspicious occasion we will also practice one of His universal teachings that leads to the realization of the Atma – Jyoti meditation.

Let us therefore organize the following activities in Sathya Sai centers and groups, at the local, regional, and national levels all over the world:

 Jyoti meditation

 Sharing of experiences by devotees on the glory and mission of Sri Sathya Sai Baba

 Devotional singing and bhajans

 Cultural programs

 Youth and SSE performances

 Service projects, and

 Audio visual presentations of His darshan, discourses and humanitarian projects.

Swami has taught us eloquently about Jyoti meditation. He told us to transcend the limits of name and form placed by our limited minds upon the nameless, formless, attributeless, infinite and eternal reality, of which we are a part. The flame of the Jyoti, Swami has said, “can kindle a million others without getting extinguished.” It is like His love for us. Let us rededicate our vision and ourselves in steadfast adherence to His Glory through Jyoti meditation, along with the above-mentioned programs and activities.

For inspiration and Divine Blessings for the tasks planned for this day, I request all devotees to listen to the golden voice of our loving Lord Sathya Sai on Jyoti meditation from His discourse of 25th May 1979, and read the transcription of this discourse as well as selected
references about Jyoti meditation. Links to these items are provided below. Please note that the audio file size is large and may take time to download.

Please use the occasion of Mahasamadhi Day 2014 to begin, or to continue, as the case may be, on the path of Jyoti meditation as instructed by our beloved Bhagawan. I urge every Sathya Sai center or Study group to practice Swami’s guided Jyoti meditation on this
auspicious Mahasamadhi Day, in addition to other activities.

I request all devotees to participate with enthusiasm and love in the center, regional and national events in observance of His Mahasamadhi day and share their love, and the Sai Love in which we abide, with others. May Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba continue to shower his
Grace and Love on all of us, and may we continue to serve Him until our last breath.

Special Announcement!

Dear brothers and sisters of the Sai family, a very historic event is going to take place during Aradhana Mahotsavam this year. Exponents in Carnatic music, inspired by the Pancharatna Kritis of Tyagaraja and moved by their love for Bhagawan, are composing special Pancharatna Kritis on Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Two of those Kritis will be offered at the Divine Lotus Feet, by these eminent musicians on the morning of the Aradhana Mahotsavam i.e. 24th April 2014. Saint Tyagaraja immortalized his love for his Lord and his Lord's love for him in his Kritis. It is but befitting that we do the same for the Lord come down as Sai Rama in this Kali Yuga.

So make sure you are in Prasanthi Nilayam during this momentous occasion to witness this historical event and for listening those soulful Pancharatna Kritis. The next best thing you can do is, tune in to the Live Broadcast of the event direct from Sai Kulwant Hall on our website, www.radiosai.org on 24 April 2014 morning.

Feel free to share this Special Announcement with all and be a part of this grand Aradhana Mahotsavam with Swami’s own radio – Radio Sai.

'Sathya Sai with Students' Blog Update - Week 82: Vacation Special

'Sathya Sai with Students' blog team takes this opportunity to wish all our readers a happy summer vacation... We present articles this week on the theme of Swami's message for students during the vacation.

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: It is that time of the year when students leave Swami's educational institutions for the summer vacations. Some would return in June to continue with their education; some others would join other institutions to move on to the next stage of their life. Swami would always use this opportunity at the end of the academic year to give them a few lessons for life which they could contemplate on and practice. We reminisce the Discourse Swami gave to the students in Trayee Brindavan in March 1992 on one such occasion.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/swami-has-told-you-so-many-things.html

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Sri Karthik Shenoi writes on the theme: "To Kodaikanal... With Sri Sathya Sai..."

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/to-kodaikanal-with-sri-sathya-sai.html

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: On February 15, 2004, in a conversation with students of the second year postgraduate classes after their gratitude programme in the Mandir, Swami gave them His special message as they were leaving the portals of His Institute to discharge their responsibilities in the world. He assured them: "... Swami will certainly manifest in front of you."

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/swami-will-certainly-manifest-in-front.html

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: In a Discourse to His Management students, Swami provides a 'Three Business Approaches for a Values-Based Managers'. We present these in a two-part series.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/three-business-approaches-for-values.html

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: It was in this week in 1945 when Baba appeared in Bangkok in the thick of World War II. Read on for a fascinating account of the experience.

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/when-baba-appeared-in-bangkok.html

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: As students of His educational institutions leave their Alma Mater, they leave with a promise that they would transform the world through the power of His Love. A song dedicated to this sentiment is presented this week. This was composed by students and sung before Bhagavan on many occasions: 'O Ho Tere Hi Pyaar Se Is Jahan Ko Badal Payenge'

Ramanavami - An Exposition by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

“Remarkable Rama Navami” – Special Radio Sai Timeline cover on the Holy occasion of Sri Rama Navami!

Sri Rama Navami is the festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Sri Rama, the Avatar of the Treta age. It falls in the ‘Chaitra’ month in the Shukla Paksha Navami (ninth day of the bright fortnight) of the Hindu lunar calendar. Lord Rama is revered as being the very embodiment of Dharma (righteousness) and one whose life serves as an ideal for all mankind. The Ramayana, an epic poem composed by sage Valmiki on the life of Lord Rama, is one of the sacred scriptures of the Hindu religion.

Bhagawan Baba has taught us great significance of Ramayana and Lord Rama through ‘Ramakatha Rasavahini’ authored by Baba Hisself.

“The Ramayana, the story of Lord Rama, teaches two lessons: the value of detachment and the need to become aware of the Divine in every being. Faith in God and detachment from objective pursuits are the keys for human liberation. Give up attachment to sense objects, and you gain Rama. Sita gave up the luxuries of Ayodhya so she could be with Rama during His exile. When she cast longing eyes on the golden deer and craved for it, she lost Rama's proximity. Renunciation leads to joy; attachment brings about grief. Be in the world, but not of it.

Rama is the in-dweller in every body. He is the Source of Bliss (Atma-Rama) in every individual. His blessing, surging from that inner spring, confers peace and bliss. He is the very embodiment of Dharma, of all the codes of morality that hold mankind together in love and unity”.

In His divine discourses Bhagawan showed us the way to mark this Historical Day. Let’s see what He has taught us.

“The Ramayana teaches the principles of Dharma and the path of duty to every individual. Though ages and aeons have passed by, the Ramayana remains ever-fresh guiding humanity on the path of truth and righteousness. Even today we think of the characters of Ramayana with respect and reverence. You can very well understand its greatness. There is no morality higher than what is depicted in the Ramayana. The Ramayana should be the subject of our Parayana (worship). You should install the principle of Rama in your heart and experience bliss. Practise the teachings of Ramayana in your daily life. Obey the command of Lord Rama. It is to understand and assimilate the principle of Ramayana that we are celebrating the festival of Rama Navami today. It is not enough if the celebration is confined to merely partaking of sweet pudding and other delicious items.

- Divine Discourse: April 11th, 2003

Feel free to make it your timeline cover and share with all to celebrate this auspicious day with us. Follow the basic principles of Ramayana to sanctify your life. Follow the path of Kaliyuga Avatar Lord Sai Rama to cross this worldly ocean safely and smoothly.

Happy Ramanavami to all

This day, the birth of Sri Rama is celebrated in all lands. Rama had deed, word and thought, body, speech and mind, ever pure and totally free from blemish. Really speaking, one ought to revere the story of Rama as a profound allegory. Every act and actor in that story attracts attention and gets imprinted on the memory because the allegory is personal to each of us.

It is often said that Rama followed dharma at all times. This is not the correct way of describing him. He did not follow dharma, he was dharma. What he thought, spoke, and did was dharma and is dharma forever. - Sathya Sai Baba - Divine Discourse: 18 April 1986

The word Rama has the triple power of destroying sins, conferring peace, and dispelling ignorance. When you utter the word "Ram", you first open the mouth with the sound "Ra". All your sins go out when your mouth is open. When you utter "M" by closing the mouth, the entry is barred against the sins that have gone out. Everyone should recognize the sweetness, sacredness, and divinity enshrined in the name Rama. It is good to utter the name Rama with full understanding of all that it signifies. But even without that understanding the chanting of the name has the power to destroy all sins.

We must learn to chant the sweet name of Rama with a pure, unsullied heart, in a spirit of selfless devotion. Men should learn to speak sweetly and pleasingly. Sweet speech confers peace. It is the means to self-realization. Sri Rama loves to dwell in the heart of the man who speaks sweetly. Wholehearted chanting of the name of Rama even once can destroy mountains of sins. But the chanting should not be done mechanically, like a gramophone record. It should emanate from the depths of the heart. You must seek to redeem your lives, by living up to Rama's ideals and proclaiming them to the world. Remember the name of Rama with love. God can be realized only through love and by no other means. - Sathya Sai Baba - Divine Discourse: 14 April 1989

Ashram shalas...A new Seva Opportunity

Social space is in a flux.

The dynamics driving them 've changed a lot.
Volunteers in social space get mixed signals.

They need to revisit their Strategies and reset the goals

to effectively deliver and eradicate Pain and anguish

if that is their objective.

For e.g we discovered that the lower middle class
is worse off than the slum dwellers in Mumbai.

But due to the traditional parameters of poverty
the slums receive more attention and the lower middle class none.

Again in the city, very few suffer for want of food and clothes.
Yet, due to traditional mind-set overdue for reset,
all go and dump food and clothes on the urban poor.

Its like rubbing the balm on a spot while the pain is elsewhere.

Hence we stopped midway. And took a sharp turn.

Towards new settlements of Pain hidden from view.

Away from the city but within a couple of hours drive.

And discovered that the Prosperity of this Megapolis
has not travelled even a couple of hours from the city

and left them high and dry. So much devastation.

We shifted gear and moved close.

Focused on helpless kids in villages who suffer
due to our apathy in letting this happen..

Bitten by guilt,we chose the 'Village schools'/Ashram shalas
within an hour and half drive

so that we can visit, serve and return
the same day on weekends.

Thus, within reach of the urban workforce
willing to serve with an asterisk *
Conditions Apply.

We fine tuned. And focussed on Ashram shalas

the boarding schools for Adivasi kids
tucked away in remote villages.

Met all concerned and got the list of such schools
that fit our parameters-Most needy kids-Hour and half drive from city

Same day return- Max people to participate in Seva.

104 schools could fit the bill.

Worked out the approach strategy.

Bad Press is their big challenge.

We need to silently serve

as our focus is not highlighting shortfalls but
improving the quality of life
of the kids to the extent possible
within our means.

Chose 5 schools in Phase I for our test drive.

Some earmarked for 'One Rupee Seva

from Corporates' which we tested and proved

for Rainwater harvesting.

Heart wrenching scenes emerged.

In a school, all Kids were without footwear.

In another, we learnt that some students
stayed back in hostel during holidays
due to extreme poverty back home and hence parents
requested to retain the kids in hostel only
so that they can get food at least.

We quietly moved in. Precisely in Jan 2014..
Befriended the staff and students.

Surprised to see the dedication
of some staff but they are resourceless
to improve the situation.

Got a school painted. Students did Varli painting on walls.
Bought bare minimum kitchen vessels for another
so that the kids can be seated and served.

Fixed mosquito nets in another. Tried Bal Vikas.

Given Solar lights to fight darkness at night.

Now attempting to fix laadhi stones on the ground
so that the barefooted can freely run and play.

In another village school,a vision impaired student
brought to the city and got treated by our team.

All it takes to improve the quality of life

are small little things but beyond their means.

After few visits and 'relationship-building' in the
schools, we requested our Mobile Medical Vans

who do yeoman service, for visiting our Ashram shalas.

On 30 Apr 2014 our first Medical camp
in Ashram Shala at Pendergol started.

With the identified village schools in focus
we resolved to serve silently, filling the gaps,
for minimum assured quality life for the kids.
The least expected of us,the urbanites in stones throw.

We also tied up with an international rating agency-

World Education foundation UK
to grade the schools being served by us
in terms of quality as at present and measure how they
improve over a year with our service inputs.
The rating exercise is attempted in the first school.

With about 400 to 500 students(from Std 1 to 10)
in an Ashram shala, the target group is pretty large.

The Investment of our time is like
our own FDI in Retail Space of Seva.

From another angle, engagement with these poor kids
on a Sunday morning is a great de-stresser
for the Urbanites who keep chasing money all the time
at the cost of healthy relationships.

We are in strange times.
Bank balance fails to fill all the gaps in life.

And 'Party-culture' fails to lift our spirits -
with same folks wearing same dry smiles
without meaning what they say. And

huge Agency failures in our social eco system.

A right-fit recipe for disaster in life.

Time to take a U turn and discover new horizons.

Like a few hours with the kids in Ashram Shala.

Last sunday we kept shaking hands with the
little scholars of Class I asking their names.
Some shied away. Some overjoyed. Some cried.

We don't know what happened to the kids.

But something inexplicable happened to us.

We were not the same after that.

Believe. Even little Love transforms a bit.

Enough to make one feel light and lifted.

Believe. Ye Duniya Bakwas hai.

After earning like Nobody's business

trampling over many relationships,

people become big money bags and

realising the futility of material life

come back seeking Peace in social space.

Why not do it now itself.
Simply. Humbly. Gracefully.

No need to give up jobs.
Not even a days leave.
If we decide to Love and Serve,
there's so much to do on weekends

that can lift our spirits up,to face the week ahead.

Jai Sairam

Sathya Sai National Human Values Day
'Love is God, Live in Love'

Dear Fellow Devotees,
Loving Sai Ram to everyone.

With the Divine Grace of our Lord Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, I am delighted to invite you and your family to the Sathya Sai National Human Values Day on Saturday, the 26th of April in Watford.

During the 85 glorious years of His Avataric Mission on Earth, every moment and every act in Bhagawan Baba's life was dedicated to transform 'Man into Divine' through the Supreme Value of Selfless Love, of which He was the very personification! His Divine Life was a practical demonstration of His teaching: ‘Love in thought is Truth; Love in action is Right Conduct; Love in feeling is Peace; Love in understanding is Non-violence’.

'Every step in the career of the Avatar is predetermined. Rama came to feed the roots of truth and righteousness. Krishna came to foster peace and love. Now these four qualities of men are in danger. The righteousness that has fled to the forests has to be brought back to the villages and towns. The strife and discord that are ruining the villages and towns must be driven into the jungle. This is the task for which I have come' (SSS Vol 1-4)

Millions from a variety of cultures, faiths, languages and races have been attracted to Him by His teachings and practise of human values. He has inspired us to lead our daily lives harmoniously and in peace, in the spirit of brotherhood and in the knowledge of Oneness.

To celebrate His Divine Legacy of Human Values, we will be commemorating the 3rd Anniversary of Bhagawan's Mahasamadhi with immense love and gratitude as Sri Sathya Sai National Human Values Day.

The day will be saturated with spiritual vibrations from our unified prayers, devotional singing, uplifting music, and the lofty thoughts and experiences shared by our eminent speakers.

I am delighted, by the Divine Grace and Blessings of our Lord, to have as our Guest Speaker on the day, Professor M Nanjundaiah, Former Controller of Examinations, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. In 1973, he joined the Sri Sathya Sai College of Arts, Science and Commerce at Whitefield as a Reader and the Head of the Commerce Department. Professor Nanjundaiah was blessed with very many experiences in the divine presence. He had the rare privilege of translating Swami’s discourses into English from 1981 to 1993.

'Sathya Sai with Students' Blog Update - Week 81: Rama Special

Sai Ram,

'Sathya Sai with Students' blog team takes this opportunity to wish, in advance, all our readers 'A Happy Rama Navami'. We present articles this week on the theme of Lord Rama and His exemplary Life.

1. DISCOURSES TO STUDENTS: Rama is the ideal human being. He is the epitome of all that is noble and virtuous. It is the dream of every parent to have a son like Rama, for every wife to have a husband like Rama, for every friend to have a friend like Rama, every brother to have a brother life Rama, and every citizen to have a ruler like Rama. But what were the qualities He possessed and what was His personality that made Him the most exemplary? Swami tells us the Glory of Rama...

2. EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS: Dr. S. Siva Sankara Sai writes on the theme: "What is more important - Bhajans or Exams?"

http://sathyasaiwithstudents.blogspot.in/2014/04/which-is-more-important-bhajans-or.html

3. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS: In a conversation with students and staff on March 7, 2002 in the Prasanthi Nilayam Mandir portico, Swami shared some lesser-known stories from the Ramayana. We now get to read them and know many things that we probably didn't know earlier.

4. MANAGEMENT LESSONS: Indian scriptures are a treasure house of messages for our daily life and conduct. Business Managers can also learn immensely from them. In a Discourse to His students, Swami elaborates on a few such lessons from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavata.

5. THIS DAY THAT AGE: It was in this week that Swami inaugurated His Ashram 'Shivam' at Hyderabad in 1973. He blessed the city for nearly 10 days. We reminisce those golden days.

6. SONG FOR THE SOUL: On the occasion of Rama Navami in the coming week, we present a song in His Golden voice that was also composed by Swami Himself: Rama Kodanda Rama...
