PARTHI NEWS - JUNE 2013

Just back from Kedarnath

Om Sri Sairam

32 members of Our overnight meditation team
and their families -ventured out as usual on their
yearly trip to Himalayas. On 8th Jun.

This time the chosen venue: Kedarnath.
With abundant divine grace returned safely
just few hours before the devastation started.

It was too close and dreadful to think.

We were at Kedarnath on 13th Jun.
Kedar was preparing for the worst. Yet to come.
The weather deteorated badly and the copter services suspended.
Five of our team fell sick due to lack of oxygen and bad weather
and all five brought down by the last helicopter sortie.
After that the services stopped.

The rest had to trek down in Ponies.

Pic: The last helicopter service at Kedarnath picking up
the suffering members of our team ..

The rest had to come down on Ponies..

And we rushed downstream towards Rishikesh
all the while chanting and singing bhajans.

While the mayhem started in Kedarnath on 15th night onwards,
we were on the riverbed camp 14 kms away from Rishikesh overnight.

The incessant rain just started and
the water level in Ganges at doorstep soared.
In panic we packed up at 5 a.m
and hurried down towards Hardwar.

Our team on the banks of Ganges...
not knowing that the disaster is round the corner..
about to strike soon....

A few hours after we left Hardwar, on 16th ,hell broke lose and
all those who were in all the four dhams were trapped
including another group from our same tour operator.

The rest is all that we see in the channels non stop.

Thousands are still trapped. Our hearts go out for them.

We keep praying to Swami for their safe return.

And rededicate ourselves to Seva
the purpose for which we were given the special privilige of
returning safely without getting trapped.

The disaster may be Man-made

But our escape plan was God-made.

----------------------

Now is the seva time.....

The worst scenario is - the relatives waiting here
not knowing whether their dear ones are alive and if so where.
We suggested a simple solution and submitted to the channels/authorities.

There are many pockets where people are stranded
and helicopter sorties are made to and fro airlifting only 5-6 people a trip
while the waiting ones are in thousands.

The helicopters can take a small drop box in the first trip and leave there
and distribute a blank white card to all those stranded with pencils to write.
And ask all of them to fill the names of their relatives and contact numbers
and their short message of two lines and put in the box.
Then come back without the box but only with first batch of five.
In the next sortie the filled box can be carried back with the next batch
and given to NGO volunteers at the base camp
who will be too willing to send the messages by sms to all mentioned in the cards.

By this simple exercise all stranded who are accessed by sorties
can be mapped instantly and their relatives connected.

We even volunteered to do this seva if allowed.

We plan to visit the base camps at Dehradun to explore this Seva
and other possibilities to serve differently
as in any case there would be a massive supply of traditional items
from all over the country with many NGOs pitching in.

Gayatri Mantra program (inc Sumeet Tappoo video)

From Jiten Thakrar

Sai Ram Dear Gods and Goddesses!

Global Gayatri Mantra programme:

On Saturday 29th June 2013 (2pm to 7pm (at your country's local time), the global Gayatri Mantra chanting programme shall be taking place again, and all are invited to join in...

We are chanting on a global scale. Spiritual children from 40 countries are now uniting and chanting the Gayatri Mantra together, every two months, to express unconditional love to God; asking Him to always care for His own physical forms: As Sathya Sai Baba explained, He is the Dehi (indweller), and not the Deha (body).

God reincarnates multiple times, as and when He chooses too. In the past though, we have not known that due to God's selflessness, He will not cure Himself (to God, thinking of His own physical needs is selfish), and so Sai Baba has explained that it is up to us, His children/devotees to ask and pray for this. - Just imagine if we understood this in the past when Jesus and other Avatars of God were here, we would have naturally prayed and asked Him to consider at His will, of course, to cure Himself. Well, Sai Baba has now taught us all this, and so we are in a much more educated place in what we can do with our roles as His children!

“The intense prayers of the devotees are my medicine.... This body is not mine. It is yours. Hence, it is your responsibility to look after this body" (Guru Purnima Discourse 2003).

"I incarnate from age to age" (Sai Baba, The Milestone Discourse).

We started to chant in February 2010, and within one year, this purpose of expressing love and care to God spread to become a united, international initiative. All gratitude to God as all is His will.

A short video of Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and their two sons Kartikeya and Ganesha can be seen here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC4KOx-OEyk&feature=c4-overview&list=UU7WcMDJxS_ht0Bp390WT99A

- In the video, Shiva challenges His sons to travel around the world to see which of His two sons can achieve the great task. Shiva said, "There is a time in your life in which you must face the world... Both of you must travel around the world."

Kartikeya (the elder son of Shiva and Parvati), who is the Avatar that represents determination, focus and will power; naturally, without wasting any time, obeyed His Father's command and set off on His given task: With great determination Kartikeya flew around the world... - Along the way, he faced terrible storms... He even stopped to help those in danger, but with His will power and obedience to God (His Father and Mother), He maintained discipline and was determined to accomplish His Godly given task!

Ganesha is the Avatar who represents wisdom, discrimination and thus removes difficult obstacles with His wise ways. Ganesha decided to stay at home, sitting close to His parents, and as usual, feeling very content and at peace with His devotion to them maintained calm and patience... After some time, Shiva asked Ganesha to consider starting His task. - Ganesha naturally obeyed God, and asked Mosheka (His mouse) to take Him around 'His' world: "Mosheka please come... Now take me around the world."

Upon Kartiteya's arrival from travelling around the globe, He disclosed very happily that He had accomplished the task given by His parents, and had also won the challenge by beating Ganesha, who had not even left home! - However, in response to this, Ganesha explained to Kartikeya: "Mosheka worked very hard in pulling me around the world... I was here first, plain and simple." Kartikeya was stunned and declared: "How dare you say that, you did nothing! I travelled around the world."

Ganesha further disclosed His heartfelt feelings and understanding of the Truth that he knows, being that He has indeed travelled around His own world: "So have I, as Mother and Father is my whole world."

...Shiva was very pleased with both of His sons, as they represented the two characteristics of God that are essential for true devotion: Will Power and Wisdom. With Self confidence (the true self is the Atman/Soul (Atman confidence) and with Faith in God (attained via wisdom), all can be accomplished! Sai Baba has explained that to succeed in any task, two things are needed; self confidence and faith in God. - And this is what Kartikeya and Ganesha represent, as children of God. Shiva explained to His sons: "You have both won in your own ways: Kartikeya, you have won from your single minded determination and endurance. Ganesha, you won by a balance of heart and mind, love and intellect."

The boys' Mother; Parvati, at the end declared: "Whoever worships Kartikeya will gain strength, whoever worships Ganesha will gain wisdom. - These are the two aspects of my power; my Shakti."

The message within this story is that we are to have strength/focus/will power and wisdom (the combination of our Mother's Shakti/Power, and with this divine power we can evolve and develop our devotion to God...

With this instructed guidance from God, we are to chant with focus for the task at hand. By obeying Sai Baba, all doubts become depleted and we can obey His word by using our discrimination and wisdom: WE ARE ALL OBEYING OUR FATHER AND MOTHER AND CHANTING TOGETHER, EVERY TWO MONTHS, WITH PURE, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR GOD, ASKING HIM TO ALWAYS CARE FOR HIS OWN PHYSICAL FORMS, JUST AS HE ALWAYS CARES FOR US; HIS CHILDREN. Let's all keep Kartikeya (focus/self confidence) and Ganesha (discrimination and wisdom) by our sides as our brothers, so that we too can accomplish our God given tasks with love and ease.

A new music video has been now been produced for Sumeet Tappoo's Gayatri Mantra contribution for this programme. Sumeet Tappoo is a very talented and blessed professional singer from India who has travelled the world and has worked with some great artists such as Anup Jalota and Shankar Mahadevan (amongst many others.).. My dear brother and soul friend, Sumeet has also had the blessing of being a very close devotee to Sathya Sai Baba. This music video contains some exclusive photographs of Sumeet performing in London, UK, which I had taken during his performance and there are also video clips included of Sathya Sai Baba's last physical darshan! These music videos are consciously aimed to represent all cultures and genres of music, as all are divine and Sai Baba/God and the Gayatri Mantra are universal (for everyone(!). The latest example of Sumeet Tappoo's contribution contains electric guitar and saxophone... - The link for the video is here:

Rudra Ekaadhashini Homam 2013

20th June 2013

Dear brothers and sisters of the Sai family,

Om Sairam!

With the Divine Grace and Blessings of our dear Lord Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, and as an expression of our love and gratitude on the auspicious occasion of Gurupoornima, the sacred Rudra Ekaadashini Homam is being performed at the Balaji Temple in Birmingham on Sunday 21st July 2013.

Venue: Shree Venkateshwara Balaji Temple UK, Dudley Road East, Tividale, West Midlands, B69 3DU
Date: Sunday 21st July 2013
Time: 8:30am to 4:30pm

Bhagawan Baba, during the momentous inauguration of the Athi Rudra Maha Yagna being performed in His Divine Presence in Prasanthi Nilayam in 2006, declared that the Yagna was for the welfare of humanity (Loka Kalyana).

This Yagna is being conducted for the welfare of the world. There is a very important aspect of this Yagna. The Athi Rudra Maha Yagna protects and fosters the divine nature in the human beings, while rejecting and diminishing the demonic qualities. Thus, it works for the welfare of humanity."

In concordance with this Divine Injunction, the prayers offered during this Rudra Ekaadashini Homam too would be for 'Universal Love and Peace'.

On behalf of the Planning Team, it is my privilege to invite and welcome all fellow devotees to join in the prayers and participate in the celebrations on the day. Last year, when a similar Homam was conducted at the Temple by our fellow devotees, a great spiritual energy was experienced by everyone present. Even the priests and other officials of the Balaji Temple were very impressed with the devotion, discipline and dedication of all the assembled Sai devotees during the Homam.

Let us all make use of this sacred and unique opportunity bestowed on us by Grace and Love of our dear Bhagawan, and participate enthusiastically in the Homam. Those attending, kindly register at http://www.srisathyasai.org.uk/national-programmes/rudrahomam2013/registration.php at the earliest.

Looking forward to welcoming you on the day,

Om Sairam!

National Spiritual Coordinator

Aum Sri Sai Ram

It was more than a decade ago, in 2002 that Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Varu first blessed the idol we made in His likeness. Moulded by skilful hands, the sculpture, made of the holy five metals (panchaloha), shone with a golden lustre.

Devotees were eagerly anticipating having such an idol in their homes and altars, Sai Samithis and Centres. Bhagawan saw the likeness, appreciated it, and asked us to wait, and so the idol was put on hold. We pacified ourselves with the thought that, when we have the living, talking, walking God amongst us, where is the need for His form in stone or metal?

Only after Bhagawan’s Mahasamadhi, when we, along with devotees all over the world, were struggling to cope with the loss of the Lord’s physical form, did Swami’s words instil courage and guidance: “Never forget the physical form. It is only from the physical form that morality spreads. The physical form sustains and propagates morality in the world by its own personal example. Thereby, morality gains strength in the world.” Bhagawan’s form took on new meaning. It is forever imprinted in our hearts, yet we yearn for a visual representation of that form, to which we can offer our devotion, prayers, and love.

In September 2012, on the auspicious occasion of the Sahasra Kalashabhishekam, held at Prasanthi Nilayam, September 2013 Bhagawan’s idol was, for the first time, displayed in public at Sai Kulwant Hall. Devotees were overjoyed at the opportunity to perform worship to Bhagawan’s form by pouring consecrated water, while the sounds of the Holy Vedas reverberated throughout the Ashram.

Soon afterward, devotees from Sri Lanka approached us in the first week of March and requested Swami’s idol for the Colombo Sai Centre. The idol was promptly made and arrangements were planned for carrying the holy form to the land made famous by the story of Lord Rama, the Ramayana.

A day before departure on the 4th April 2013 a special pooja was conducted in Bangalore for the idol. After the prayers, all the devotees were astonished to discover manifestations of Kumkum and Vibhuthi over the idol. Indeed, half of Bhagawan’s form was covered in Vermillion and the other half in the Sacred Ash. It was a beautiful sign of His Grace and a reminder of His true form – Shiva and Shakthi.

The journey to Sri Lanka was amazing. We felt as though we were reliving the experience of Lord Hanuman and the simian army as they accompanied Lord Rama across the ocean. Bhagawan was received by the Colombo devotees with great love, respect and devotion. He was carried in procession to the main hall, Sai Nilayam on the afternoon of Saturday 6th April 2013, where Bhagawan was officially “handed over” to the Managing Committee of the Centre. A Pooja and Bhajans were conducted to the great joy of the devotees.

After returning to Bangalore, I was humbled at the Lord’s abundant and everflowing Grace, when the Sri Lankan devotees called to inform that Swami had again manifested Vibhuthi on 18th April 2013 upon the new idol, now permanently installed at Sai Nilayam. Bhagawan has reminded us many times, “God is not confined to mere physical form. Divinity has neither birth nor death, for it transcends physical form.” Although we cannot see His physical form, His likeness, in the form of His idol, fills us with delight and bliss. We are ever grateful to Bhagawan for blessing the original idol and granting His devotees the joy of continuing to adore and worship Him to our hearts’ content.
