Important News:

Dear Sai Brothers & Sisters,

Sairam. The info provided in this article is fascinating! Truly, we all are so much Blessed to have born in this Sathya Sai era.

Well, i would like to share my happiness in this forum, that i have  also been Blessed by our Swami to participate in the group song to  be rendered on the 9th evening, as the invocation song for the  Yagna. We are a group of 11 (incidentally) who are to present the song in front of Swami (i understood the significance of "11"  after reading the article!).

The song has been tuned and composed by Shri.T.V.Hariharan in Bangalore. Needless to say, it is Swami who has brought this composition through shri.Hariharan. I am giving below the song, for  the benefit of the can notice that the song covers all  the attributes of Sai - as Sai Shiva, as Poorna Avatar, as the  Supreme Guru, as JyotirLinga Swaroopa, then it mentions about the 12  Jyotir Lingas and concludes by saying, whoever contemplates on the Lord, their sins are washed away.

Sai Ram !

Our Beloved Swami at Prashanthi Nilayam is going to perform athi rudra yagnam next month.

In relevance to this, a small write up on Rudram and its significance for the benefit of our sai family

Sai Ram to you all....

Shri Rudram in Yajur Veda is the one with full of Lord's Sarvantharyamithwam. Brief snapshot of Rudram and Chamakam is given here for all of us to understand the greatness of this.

Actually Rudram starts with Nyasam, meaning the one who chants would visualize himself with each of his parts of the body to a deity.. (for eg. in laghunyasam it starts with 'Paadhayoar Vishnushthishtathu" meaning visulalizing vishnu in our part Toes.)

Then we surrender our Body , Mind and Spirit (atma) to him and become one with him (for eg. it starts with "Agnirmae Vachissruthaha .. Vaaghrudhayae.. in fact this whole paragraph will be repeated with "Hrdhayam" (heart), this will quieten our heart )

It is then the sankalpa and the effect of Rudra Parayanam will be distributed to the whole world (Shri Samba Sadhashiva Prasada Sidhyarthae Japae Viniyogaha)

Now the person chanting Rudra himself will become the Lord and chants the dhyanam.

And now the chanting of rudram starts….

Very important to note here is that Rudram is the only Manthra which starts with a prostration to Lord Parameshwara (Om Namo Bhagavathae Rudraaya). In vedas none of the mantras start with prostrations in the beginning.. This makes Rudram THE SUPREME MANTHRA. (here the point to be understood is the greatness of Rudram).

In the 1st paragraph the Lord is cooled down with our praise. The second paragraph to ninth, we do namaskar to the Lord in all directions, and these paragraphs explain the Sarvaantharyaamithwam ( i.e. not only the things which have life but also non-living things also are described as Parameshwara, and namaskar is being offered).
And now we ask for boons like Oh lord please take care of us… To cite an eg. there is a verse :

Maano Mahanthamuthamaano arbhagam Maana ukshantha muthamaana

Ukshitham. Maanovathi: Pitharam Motha Matharam Priyaa maanasthanuvo
Rudra Reerishaha.

Which means O Lord. Please save all of us from all calamities including our parents, elders and even the foetus (if anybody is pregnant, the word Arbhagam – means foetus)….

Such a wonderful and powerful manthram is our Rudram.

And finally we pray God :
Thriyambakam Yajamahe Suganthim Pushtivardhanam
Urvaaru kamiva Bandhanan Mruthyor Muksheeya Maamruthath

Which is nothing but Mruthyunjaya Manthra. The meaning here is very interesting. Cucumbur is the only fruit that automatically comes out and not being plucked whereas all the other fruits are plucked. Like cucumber, which comes out automatically, without being plucked, O Lord please save us from apamruthyu. (i.e pray for longevity of life and for leaving the earth after living a good life and without any fear, with awareness they die).

This powerful Rudram is the one chanted in all the temples for Abhishekam.. If u are not able to chant, if you just listen also, you reap the benefits.

Here there are 11 pagraphs. The verses end with "Mein" for eg. Shanchamein Mayaschamae…" like this

The joining word Mein here means "we have got wealth since we have chanted rudhram". All these eleven paragraphs we are not praying … but note that we say with affirmative that we have already got it because we have chanted Rudram.. There is nothing left for us to pray for … whatever we would have forgot wud also have been there in chamakam. ( we say we have this we have this.. and lo! We have this ultimately..i.e. Yadhbhavam Thadh Bhavathi)

I could not elaborate still further, I just wanted our Sai family to know about the greatness of rudram and whenever there is abhishekam to our Baba in any parts of the world, we can chant rudram or make the cassette played during abhishekam.

Warm Regards & Love
