DOCTORS MEET AT GYAN DEEP HALL IN DHARMAKSHETRA MUMBAI ON 18-0-2005
Today we need men of
sacrifice in the world. What I want is not your devotion. You must apply your
mind to the problems of society and find remedies for them. One should aspire
for social welfare. Society today needs the services of self sacrificing
doctors. Doctors these days have large incomes of thousands of rupees per month.
But they do not want to do work worth even a rupee. They want to have money
without work. Society today needs servants. Only those who truly serve can
become true leaders.
When a leader looks upon himself as a servant, he renders true service to
society

Taking Inspiration from the Divine
example of Swami's Super Speciality Hospital, the organisation has always been
motivated to duplicate this model at the state level.
This is one such project. The uniqueness is that it entails active seva from the
workers of the organisation.
This project aims at achieving the goal of providing Super Speciality treatment,
of high quality, free of charge, to the needy, without the cost of putting up a
hospital structure for the same. This project entails the coming together of
Super Specialist Doctors who out of their own sense of service are willing to
take care of patients utilising their existing facilities.
The Trust would provide the
logistical support including money for medicine and material. The first such
cardiac surgery under this network has been already performed. This project is
one of the offerings by Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Maharashtra & Goa and
Sri Sathya Sai Trust, Maharashtra on the occasion of 80th year of Advent of Sri
Sathya Sai Avatar.
Mumbai Flood
While most of Mumbai has struggled to reach home over the last few days,
very few have questioned why Mumbai has suddenly become a victim of floods.
Yes, it is possible that Mumbai has received more than her share of rain, but
that still does not account for why the water took so long to recede. Also no
one seems to be questioning why the flooding has been particularly bad in the
Kurla-Kalina region; no one seems to have made the connection with the
mysterious Mithi River and the Mahim Creek.
The Mithi River, which at one time must have been a glorious channel of water,
has now been reduced to a filthy nalla of muck and pollution. The river runs
from Powai, reaching the Arabian Sea via Kuria and Kalina. The Mahim Creek acts
both as a filter for the incoming Arabian Sea and a drain for the river -

Introduction
It is well know to all the fact that the cost of medical care specially tertiary care is beyond the reach of an average person, not to mention the poor. The provision of such treatment has also become a commercial enterprise with all the attendant abuses. The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation of Maharashtra has undertaken Medicare to the needy as one of its main service projects in His mission.
In line with its core objective of providing free Medicare services to the economically backward society and the needy, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Maharashtra & Goa, conduct Medicare activities at two tiers.
Sri Sathya Sai Trust Maharashtra has set up the Sri Sathya Sai Super Speciality Diagnostic Centre, Dharmakshetra, Mumbai and Sri Sathya Sai Speciality Medical Centre, Sai Prem, Navi Mumbai. These centers house eminent specialist Doctors and patients from all the primary centers are referred here for further course of action.
It was for this reason the organisation had conducted this meet to share with the doctors, the guiding principles driving all medical relief and health care activities which are enumerated below:
1. Globalisation of Medicine: Medical aid should be the right of every individual irrespective of caste, creed , nationality or color.
2. De-commercialisation of Medicine: The act of healing should be restored to it pristine sanctity, which can only be done when it ceases to be a commodity bought and sold in the market.
3. Human Values in Medical Care: Care must be taken by all involved in the health care, to demonstrate the five values viz, Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-Violence in every act of theirs.
4. Spiritualisation: Present day medicine make no attempt at strengthening the SPIRIT of ma- the divine force in him that energises his physical, mental and physiological systems. This integration is effectively implemented in a thorough and professional manner by the organisation.

Medicare at
Slums and Villages
Grama Seva is a unique novel and noble service activity ordained by
Bhagawan in His infinite Compassion and Grace. Bhagawan often exhorts us that, "
Of all the methods of Seva, service to the long neglected rural population is
the best. Dedicate your skills, your energies to the betterment of the
brothers and sisters dwelling in the villages. No other service can excel Grama
Seva". Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations all over India provides free medical
help at the door steps of the needy by organising regular medical camps.
Abiding by the Divine directives of Bhagawan, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations,
Maharashtra & Goa, have enthusiastically plunged into Seva in the Villages &
Slum with greater focus on Medical Services. Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations,
Maharashtra & Goa have over 15 centers in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai alone actively
involved in free medical services through periodical medical camps. Members from
these centres visit many slums and villages in and around Mumbai and carry out
various free service projects.
The important aspect of these projects
is the medical camps where in qualified doctors attached to the
organisation provide free medical check up and medicines to the needy. This is
supplemented by special check up camps such as. Cancer detection camps.
Eye check up camps etc. A holistic approach is adopted in this service
emphasising on both preventive and curative aspects of human ailments.
While the preventive measures through health education like organising
exhibitions and audio-visual aids, enable containment of diseases, every effort
is made to provide total cure through regular follow ups and tertiary treatment
assistance where possible. For example - free cataract surgeries were organised
for some of the patients from villages in Navi Mumbai.
The fulfillment of human life consists in the service
that man renders, without any thought of return, in an attitude of selflessness.

Divine prescription for the Doctors by Bhagawan Sri
Sathya Sai Baba
Fill your hearts with compassion and serve the poor and the needy. Sacrifice is
the hallmark of a true doctor
There is no medicine more effective than a smile .
Speak kind and sweet words to the patients; for these words cure the patients
Work happily and spread happiness to more and more patients
Doctors should administer the injection of courage and encouragement to the
patients
As the Lord has Love and Compassion, the doctors too should have these divine
virtues of the Lord
Medicines of their own can not cure diseases; it is the divine grace that cures
When virtue increases, health improves
To put in sincere effort is the duty of a doctor; success or failure is God's
will
Think and feel that the service you perform to the patients is the direct
service to God
The belt) that you extend in good faith to your patients will be rewarded in
course of time
Man has been endowed with the human body nof for seeking his selfish ends but
for serving
Fellow-beings Cultivate the awareness that the service, which doctors perform
for others, is nothing but service done unto themselves
Observe the harmony of speech and practice, lest you mislead the patients
Restraint over food and life style ensures sound health of the heart
The essential mark of a hospital is its cleanliness
Hospitals are meant to serve the poor and not to make money
You can charge the correct fee from the wealthy, but be kind and considerate
while dealing with the poor
'Dharmarthakamamoksbanam Arogyam Mootamuttamam"
Health is the fundamental requirement to achieve the
four goals of human life, namely, Dharma (righteousness), Artha (wealth), Kama
(desire) and Moksha (liberation). Without good health, man cannot perform even a
small task. Health is man's supreme wealth. It is much superior to the
other types of wealth possessed by man.
